Model lips: Kate Moss Lasting Finish lipsticks by Rimmel London

title rimmel

After absolutely loving Maybelline’s Color Sensational Vivids lipstick, I have been on a drugstore kick lately. I’ve always been intrigued by the Kate Moss lipstick line from Rimmel London, one, because she’s a supermodel, and two, because, well, she’s a supermodel, so you know that if she wears them, maybe it will make the rest of us look as fab as she does.  That makes sense right?

Anyways, I received two shades, both of which were a bit out of my comfort zone, but like any good model, you have to suck it up and rock it.  It turns out, although the shades weren’t my usual nude or baby pink, I loved them anyways.

The line comes in two finishes, Lasting Finish and Lasting Finish Matte.  You can tell the difference by the colour of the tubes.  The OG formula, Lasting Formula, comes in a black case, and the matte finishes come in a red one.  Both have Kate’s signature on them (minus the Moss part).

Lasting Finish is available in 11 shades and ranges from nudes to pinks to even orange and a colour similar to a black berry. The matte version is available in five different shades, and aside from a nude, are quite darker.

As for the actual product itself, I am super impressed with these.  I received the shades 101 (a mauve pink) in the matte version and 01 (a bold red) in Lasting Finish, which applies super shiny (see photos).  Both smell fabulous (seriously, like cherry Chapstick), and they are just so pigmented and creamy to apply.  They also last quite a while (although with the red shade, 01, I had to apply this often since the colour is high-maintenance).

Overall, I love these lipsticks, but wish that they came out with more colours I would wear.  I’m planning on picking up some nude shades because there are a few in the range, but hello Kate Moss and Rimmel, release a baby pink or something.  If they did, I would be all over that.

Totally off topic, but I just wanted to share a quick NOTD.  My nails have been peeling so I figured I would give them a break.  And by a break I mean apply some Sally Hansen Salon Effect Real Nail Polish Strips.  I’m totally rocking 275 Heartbreaker which comprises of my two current obsessions, hearts and skulls.  Something fun just in time for the weekend!

Have you tried Rimmel London’s Lasting Finish by Kate lipsticks?  What were your thoughts?

Please note, I was sent the products in this post for consideration by the company that handles PR for Rimmel London and Sally Hansen in Canada.  As always, all opinions are my own.

Beauty on a budget: spring beauty essentials at Wal-Mart Canada

walmart Spring to me is all about a fresh face.  Most weekends are reserved for care-free hair and a “no makeup” makeup.  When the weather gets warmer I typically keep it easy on my face and will just apply a BB cream, a little liner, some mascara, and a lip balm.

Although I do have a thing for department store products, there are some essentials that I must have on-hand that I pick up at the drugstore.  I typically will either shop at Wal-Mart or Superstore for my cosmetic needs as they have the best prices.

face products

For a perfect fresh face, the essentials I would say are a good cleanser and moisturizer, a mascara to open up those eyes, and a lip balm to keep your lips moisturized (preferably tinted to add some colour).  After a long day, have some makeup-removing wipes on hand to wash it all off.

If you are on a budget, a perfect cleanser would be the Aveeno Positively Radiant Makeup Removing Cleanser, which will not only wash your face but remove your makeup (trust me, after a long night out, the last thing you want to do is clean all your makeup off.  This product is the perfect two in one). The product comes in a pump bottle that dispenses foam product and lathers up perfectly on your face.  I typically use a Clarisonic at night, but if I am in a rush, this is the perfect cleanser for getting the job done. To follow up, try Olay’s new Fresh Effects Satin Finish moisturizer, which is an oil-free moisturizer that leaves your skin looking smooth (plus, I love the fun spring packaging, I’m a sucker for branding).

To add some oomph to your face, apply a black eyeliner, like Physician’s Formula Eye Definer in black, which is retractable, hence there is no need for a sharpener, and then layer on some coats of mascara, like Almay’s One Coat Triple Effect mascara (this is a really great drugstore mascara – review coming soon!).  Lastly, keep those lips moisturized with Burt Bee’s Tinted Lip Balm that comes in a variety of different shades, so not only will your lips feel fresh, but they will also look good too.

My last essential would be makeup-removing wipes, which really come in handy.  Mascara on your lids?  Made a mistake with your eyeliner?  Get rid of any mistakes with some cleansing towelettes, like the Equate ones from Wal-Mart.  I have tried a number of different makeup wipes and although these aren’t my favourite (I found the towelettes to be a bit dry), they are at an affordable price and they do get the job done.

Spring beauty doesn’t have to be about a full-done face.  Start with your skin and then enhance what you already have.  It also doesn’t have to be expensive.  As I try out more drugstore products I have really been finding that I have been loving what is out there and that sometimes a less expensive product can be just as good as one triple its price.

What are your spring beauty essentials?

All of the above mentioned products can be found at Wal-Mart Canada.  Please note, I was sent these products for review, all opinions are my own.

Glamour-eyes! Red lip. Winged liner. A tutorial.

title

Nothing speaks glamour to me more than a bold red lip and a winged liner (with big lashes to boot).  I’m not one to typically wear a red lip because it’s so hard to maintain throughout the day and it can get a little messy (especially when you eat), but every so often I pull out my favourite red lipstick and rock it on a day when want to feel all grown up and mature ;).

A winged liner on the other hand, I have been obsessed with.  You can do a wing with really any type of eyeliner, whether it’s pencil, liquid, or gel.  I chose to do this one with a gel liner, a new one that I have been obsessed with, Rimmel London’s ScandalEyes Waterproof Liner in black.

The product, available at drugstores (aka affordable), comes in a pot with a hidden wand.  I do use the included wand and it works fab.  I have been rocking this liner ever since I got it, and it’s very long wearing and best of all, stays put!  I have another gel liner from Buxom and that one does not compare to the fabulosity of this one.

For the red lip, I chose another Rimmel London product, their Lasting Finish by Kate (as in Moss) Lipstick in shade 01, which is a deep glamourous red.  The lipstick is billed to provide lasting colour for up to eight hours and is infused with black diamonds to reflect light.  The lipstick was very shiny, however, it looked pretty drab by the eight hour mark. I recommend reapplying this shade every time you eat to maintain the look.  As a side note, I want to mention that I am obsessed with the scent of this product, it smells like cherry Chapstick (insert Katy Perry reference here).

Here’s how to create the look!

Red lips steps

1. Apply your regular foundation, concealer, blush, and bronzer.  After, with a nude base, like MAC’s Paint Pot in Nubile, apply this all over your lids.

2. Grabbing a gel liner, like Rimmel London’s ScandalEyes Waterproof Gel Liner in black, paint a thin line along your lashline.  Then at the end, draw the line out at an angle towards the end of your brows.  Connect that angled line with your original line, drawing it at a diagonal angle until it connects.  Finally, paint the gap in.

3. This step can be done before the liner.  With a crease brush, apply a light brown shade to your crease to add dimension.  I used Naked from the original Urban Decay Naked palette.

4. Curl your lashes and apply loads of mascara.  I used It Cosmetics Hello Lashes! mascara with Rimmel London ScandalEyes Curve Alert (I always layer this mascara for a dramatic fringe) on top for some serious lashes.  You can also add falsies.

5. Add some highlight to the area by applying a white eyeshadow under your brow bone and in the inner corners of your eyes.  I used Rimmel London’s ScandalEyes Cream Eyeshadow Stick in  001 Witness White.

6. To apply the red lip, either start with a red lip liner, or with a lip brush (as in my case), get some product on the tip of your brush then line your lips.  Grab some more product on your brush then fill in your lips. Finally, with the actual lipstick, apply this as you would normally.  Since red can be messy when you apply it, if you mess up, use concealer for touch ups.

finished

If you aren’t a fan of red, you can swap it out for a bright fuchsia or orange if you are feeling like a bold lip.
