Dive in! Make Up For Ever Water Blend Face & Body Foundation

MUFE title As much as I love my full-coverage foundation, sometimes it feels too heavy on the face. For days when I just want to take it easy, I usually reach for my BB cream, but now that Make Up For Ever has released their new water foundation, I’ve been reaching for that.

Marrying the comfort and natural-looking results of a sheer foundation with the performance of a long-wear product, the new Water Blend foundation delivers a nice dewy finish in a lightweight, sheer, buildable formula. Like the name says, this foundation is comprised of 80 per cent pro-vitamin B5-infused water, which maintains the skin’s hydration and blends smoothly for a light glow. Once set, this foundation is transfer-proof and waterproof, making it perfect for those end-of-summer beach or pool days (plus it’s so natural looking that no one will think you’re actually wearing makeup).

Available for C$54, the Water Blend foundation is available in 20 different shades and is suitable for all skin types.

I received three of the shades, Y225, Y245, and Y305. All of them are on the lighter end of the shade ranges. Since Y225 may be a touch too light for my skin tone since it’s summer, I tried Y245 first and then Y305, and since the coverage on this foundation is lightweight both matched my skin nicely.

foundations

The consistency of the foundation is like the name, very watery and very refreshing. It does go on light, however, it leaves you with a nice coverage, suitable for everyday wear. Water-blend foundation seems to be a thing now as this is the second one I have tried out, the first one being Tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation, which has a better coverage to it than the Make Up For Ever. Also, if you are having some deja vu with this foundation, Water Blend replaces their iconic face and body, delivering a “new and improved” version.

I have normal skin, but I think this would be great on dry skin or sunburnt skin (it feels so refreshing when you apply it). Because it’s so watery I’m unsure of how it would set on oily skin, however, I do enjoy going over this with a powder foundation for a little bit more coverage and setting power.  In my swatches I actually used the new Kat Von D Lock It Concealer (which is a heavy concealer) and the Young Blood mineral foundation powder to create really nice coverage on my skin.

Swatched

Make Up For Ever’s Water Blend Face & Body foundation launched last month in Sephora stores, so I recommend visiting your closest location and getting a sample to try out. It is on the pricier side of foundations considering it’s lightweight, but it would be amazing to have on hand for everyday wear.

Boldly go… A look at select items from MAC Star Trek

MAC title I can’t remember the last MAC collection that had people beaming as much as MAC Star Trek.

In case you haven’t seen swatches and product images popping up all over the interweb, MAC is releasing a Star Trek collection in honour of the franchise’s 50th anniversary. The collection, which will be released in stores and online at the beginning of September, consists of lipsticks, lip glasses, powders, eye shadows, nail lacquer, eyeliner, lashes and brushes. Although it’s in celebration of the science fiction franchise, the products are inspired by some of the ladies of the series, Deanna Troi, Uhura, Seven of Nine and the Orion Girl, Vina (I was never a Star Trek kinda girl, so I have no clue who these ladies are…).

Packaging

I was lucky to receive some items from the collection way ahead of the release date (MAC previewed the collection earlier in July at San Diego Comic Con), including all three nail lacquers, two of the glosses and one of the lipsticks.

All three nail lacquers in this collection are metallics. There’s a silver one (Enterprise), a gold one (Holla Deck) and a green shimmery confetti, think reptile skin (Skin of Evil). I typically don’t find that MAC Nail Lacquers last long on my nails, and I usually don’t gravitate towards metallics, but I ended up liking all three of these. They are quite eye-catching on the nails, but aside from Skin of Evil, they aren’t really colours we haven’t seen before. With that being said, they really do embody the theme of the collection nicely, and those names (Holla Deck!) are so Star Trek appropriate.

There’s four lipsticks in the collection, everything from a shimmery red to a gold to a purple. I got the colour Kling It On (that name!), which is a frost finish and a deep purple with fine glitter. It’s a really pretty lipstick and definitely very unique. It applies like a deep berry with the glitter being quite prominent. The colour is definitely more of a fall shade, and embodies the Star Trek theme so nicely.

Kling It On goes perfectly with their Warp Speed Ahead Lipglass. This gloss is a plum shade with blue and pink reflective glitter. Wear it by itself for a hint of dark colour with shine, or pair it with Kling It On for a bold look.

The other gloss I got was Set to Stun, a light silver with gold pearl. This one doesn’t really apply silver, but instead just looks very metallic. It would pair nicely with just about any lipstick and give you that futuristic look that is the soul of Star Trek.

MAC did an outstanding job with creating shades and finishes that just scream Star Trek. I also want to note that even if there is nothing that catches your eye, the packaging is an amazing collector’s item for any die-hard fan. Aside from the Star Trek logo with the 50 in the middle, even the boxes have silver metallic foil inside them with the 50th anniversary logo. Pick it up for the nostalgia, the colours, or the packaging, with 25 pieces in this collection, I’m sure you’ll find something to beam about ;).

What items will you be picking up from MAC Star Trek when it launches on September 1?

Feeling rosy: Formula X #ColorCurators for August 2016 with Makeup with Rose XOXO

TITLE We are halfway into August and I know what you’re all thinking… Who is the August Color Curator for Formula X?!  Well, in case you haven’t been to a Sephora store, this month’s curator is Rose Siard from Makeup With Rose XOXO.

I’ve never previously heard of Makeup By Rose XOXO prior to receiving this collection, but it looks like Rose Siard is a singer/entrepreneur/blogger, and created three shades that represent her brand and who she is.

Colours

All the colours, which are creme formulas, are super wearable and neutral colours that go well with just about any outfit. Acoustic Dreams is a chocolate burgundy, which she describes as her go-to stage polish; Puffin is a mink grey and is dedicated to her husband Ben (her Instagram handle is actually @RoseandBen), and Mahhvelous Rose is a rosy mauve that’s so pretty and classic.

Formula X delivers up to 10 days of gel-like wear and shine, and I paired these polishes with their Color Corrector Base Coat and Shine Strength Top Coat for long-lasting wear and incredible shine.

I really like all of these shades as they are extremely wearable and good “I can’t decide which polish to wear” colours. Although there’s nothing in here that is outstanding in my opinion, all them are great neutrals that should be standard in anyone’s collection.

Now that August is halfway over, I can’t wait to find out who September will be…
