Strobing/Contour: Maybelline Master Strobing Stick & Highlight and Contour Stick

title

Scared of contouring? Clueless about strobing? With so many products out there now to chisel those cheekbones and give you that dewy glow, it’s so easy to accomplish these trends. All you need to do is go to Sephora and there are sections dedicated to getting you those lit AF cheekbones and angelic glow, but if you want something a little more affordable to try out, Maybelline’s got your back.

Released in the summer, the drugstore beauty brand has released some new goodies in the Master Contour lineup. First up, the Master Contour V-Shape Duo Stick Contour and Highlight is a duo all-in-one product to add structure to the face. One half of the stick is the contour side and the other half is the highlight. Available in three shades, the creamy matte formula blends super easy, either with your fingers or a beauty blender, and adds structure and lift in two steps.

Since I already had some concealer on, I mostly used this product for the contouring part. It glided on so smoothly and I went in with a damp beauty blender to even it all out. You can’t really tell in the photos, but I did use the highlight part directly underneath the contour just to sharpen up the line. Once it’s blended out it’s a really nice natural-looking contour. I did end up going over it with a bronzer afterwards just to make it pop a little more.

To finish off your perfectly sculpted face, give Maybelline’s Master Contour Strobing Stick Illuminating Highlight a shot. Also ultra-creamy, this lightweight highlight, available in two shades, contains micro-fine pearls to give your skin a glow for an all-night highlight. All you need to do is swipe it on and blend it out.

This product is incredibly easy to use and it blends out amazingly. Apply it to the highs of your cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose, along your brow bone, your cupid’s bow and your chin, then blend! What you’re left with is a dewy glow.

final

I was a little iffy on the contour stick at first, but it ended up being amazing. One of my all-time most-viewed blog posts is on an affordable highlight and contour, which features the Maybelline Fit Me foundation stick in a dark colour.

If I’m going all out with my makeup, I will usually apply a cream contour first, blend it, then apply a powder over top to darken it up. Also, since I travel so often, a duo product like this is amazing to just toss in my travel makeup bag.  As for the strobing stick, the simplicity of the product is amazing and the glow it gives you is out of this world. Make sure you check out both of these products next time you’re at the drugstore.

Have you tried Maybelline’s new contour and highlight products?

Tomorrow is a latter day: Win tickets to The Book of Mormon, playing in Winnipeg Sept 27-Oct 2, 2016

bom_logo_600x400 Three years ago when I was planning my trip to the UK I knew I wanted to see a play on London’s West End.  The area is kinda similar to Broadway, and being a musical theatre junkie as a kid, I didn’t want to miss the chance to see a show in this iconic location.

I chose to see The Book of Mormon since it won a bunch of Tony awards and I had heard great reviews on the show. I had no clue what the show was about, and judging it by the name, I totally thought it was going to be a dramatic musical about religion.

Boy, was I wrong.

For those that don’t know, The Book of Mormon was written by Robert Lopez, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the latter two being the creators of South Park, with Lopez being the co-composer/co-lyricist of Avenue Q (and also Frozen). Although Im not a fan of South Park I can appreciate it’s vulgar, offensive humour, and after seeing Avenue Q so many years ago on Broadway (it’s a musical with puppets.. and they also have sex), I knew this musical was completely different than what I thought it was originally.

The Book of Mormon is incredibly entertaining, funny, and most of all offensive. This musical is not for the faint of heart, it essentially makes fun of everyone, skin colour, religion, you name it. But that’s why people love it. It’s like a car crash you can’t stop watching. It’s so unlike traditional musical theatre (this is definitely not your grandparents Sound of Music or Show Boat).

Anyways, fast-forward to 2015 when The Book of Mormon’s touring production made a stop in Winnipeg and us ‘Peggers loved it so much (I actually bought my parents tickets to the show because they just had to see it) that they are coming back to the Centennial Concert Hall September 27 to October 2, 2016. Since ‘m a huge fan of the show, I’m giving away a pair of tickets to the Wednesday, September 28 show at 8 p.m.

To enter, all you need to do is leave me a comment below telling me who you would bring to the show.

You can also do additional entries by leaving me a comment on my Instagram page, Facebook page, and retweeting this tweet. The winner will be chosen on September 27, 2016 (make sure you’re following me on social media so I can contact you!).

To buy tickets for the show, you can visit the Centennial Concert Hall box office (555 Main Street), all Ticketmaster outlets, by visiting the Ticketmaster website, or by calling 1-855-985-5000.

Also, if you’re a student, The Book of Mormon is also doing a student rush ticket policy for their limited engagement here. The production will conduct a pre-show student rush, making 40 tickets available per show at $25 per ticket. The student rush tickets will be available first-come first-served to those who show valid student ID at the Centennial Concert Hall box office two hours prior to each performance. A limit of two tickets per person will be enforced.

Good luck!

Oldie, but a goodie: OPI Infinite Shine cult-classic colours

opi-title

Cajun shrimp, Dulce de Leche, Big Apple Red… no, I’m not talking food here, these are all names of some cult-classic OPI colours!

We all have our favourite OPI shade (mine is baby pink/nude Mod About You) and the brand plays host to lots of colours that have become idols in the nail polish world. These iconic shades have made a comeback this month when they got rereleased, this time in the Infinite Shine formula.

Infinite Shine is OPI’s version of the at-home gel polish. It’s a three-step system which offers up to 10 days of wear, a gel-like shine, and an easy removal. Even though you can technically use any nail polish shade with the Infinite Shine base and top coat, 30 of OPI’s iconic colours were released in their Infinite Shine formula for long-lasting wear.

Although the nail polish giant released 30 shades this month, including You Don’t Know Jacques, Big Apple Red, Lincoln Park After Dark, and so many others, they will also be releasing 30 more best-loved shades in December in case your fave didn’t make the cut the first time around.

I received 10 of the 30 colours (plus the base and top coats) earlier this month to swatch and try out, and although I already owned some of the colours in the regular format, I was pumped to try them out in Infinite Shine.  These retail for a little more than the standard OPI polish at C$16.95 each, but they are supposed to give you a longer wear time.  Did they do this for my nails? No, not really.  The colour started wearing away at the tips after a few days, but I have rather thin, peeling nails, so I’m not sure if this could have been a factor in this.

OPI’s Infinite Shine formula isn’t new, it’s been around for a while now and although OPI has released dupes for this iconic colours, this is the first time they are bringing back our faves. To celebrate this collection, they have enlisted Pyper America Smith, a model, musician, and social media influencer, as the brand ambassador for OPI Infinite Shine.

I already own some of these shades in the regular OPI formula, so I’m stocked to try them out in this formula. Although I have tried better at-home gel polish, nail polish is nail polish and I certainly don’t mind changing up my colour every few days.

What is your favourite OPI nail polish shade?
