Glam to ghoul: An easy deer makeup look by Make Up For Ever

title

Stumped on what to be for Halloween? Don’t want to invest a ton of money in a costume that’s horribly made and overpriced? Make Up For Ever’s got your back.

Every year the Parisian beauty brand comes out with some step-by-step tutorials on spooky looks you can create, all using makeup. This year, they have partnered with Sephora Canada on a Halloween campaign called… you guess it, Glam to Ghoul.

The campaign features six Halloween looks, all on Sephora Canada’s website, accompanied with a video tutorial and the list of products to achieve each look. Of course, you don’t need to use all Make Up For Ever (I didn’t), but they do have a lot of products that may be hard to find from other brands (like white lipstick). Sephora Canada is also showcasing MUFE’s pro-only special effects on their website, for a limited time only for Halloween.

The looks include an eternal goddess, a sugar skull, a vampire, creature of the night, zombie, and a deer.  Some are definitely easier to recreate than others, but I wanted to go with the easiest one (and also the most popular – it seems to be a blogger fave!), Darling Deer. If you are short on time, this one is so easy to create and you don’t need a lot of makeup to achieve it.

final-1

All you need for this look is a white eyeliner, black eyeliner, brown eyeliner, and bronzer. I actually layered this look overtop of my daytime look (AKA normal makeup), so if you’re in a rush to a Halloween party, this takes like 10 minutes tops.

Below are the steps I used to create this look based on what they recommended. Take a look at the video online though to see the full process.

steps

  1. With a bronzer, darken up your contour, don’t be afraid to go in with a heavy hand!
  2. Using a white eyeliner, like Make Up For Ever Aqua XL M-16 matte white, make dots on your cheeks above the contour and going into it.
  3. With a black gel liner, colour in the tip of your nose and nostrils. I used the black colour from the Make Up For Ever Flash Color Palette, but any black eyeliner will do.
  4. With the white eyeliner again, apply that all over your lid area. If you wish, you can set it with a white eyeshadow (as per the tutorial on Sephora’s site), however, I didn’t.

5. With a brown eyeliner (you can also use a black if you don’t), trace along your crease and slightly wing it out. I used Make Up For Ever Aqua XL S-50 Satiny Taupe.

6. Using a black eyeliner, like Make Up For Ever Aqua XL M-10 matte black, line your upper lash line and wing it out. From the wing, bring it down belong your lower lash line about halfway.

7. With the white eyeliner, line the lower lash line with the white so it meets up with the black.

8. With the brown eyeliner, line your lips and you’re done!

final-2

And that’s it! This look was so easy to create and turned out super cute as well. All the looks Make Up For Ever posted were so easy to do and if you’re scrapped for makeup ideas, definitely give these a try.

What are you being for Halloween this year?

The layered look: Rimmel London Colour Precise Eyeliners

title-rimmel

Last weekend my friend invited me out to go see Cirque du Soleil Toruk, which is Cirque’s newest travelling show. The high-production spectacle is inspired by Avatar, and knowing this, I totally wanted to bust out my inner navi and and incorporate some blue into my look.

I’ve always been a fan of the layered eyeliner look and then it dawned on my that Rimmel London’s new Colour Precise Eyeliners have been sitting on my dining room table since I basically got them.  I was sent these a few months ago, along with other Rimmel fall goodies, and already having a million liquid eyeliners I haven’t gotten the chance to really try them out.

A big trend for fall 2016 is the negative space eyeliner look, which is so easy to do with these liquid liners. The Colour Precise Eyeliners are the first coloured liquid liner which offers clean contours of bold colour with some major staying power. They feature a soft tapered tip that gives you a sharp, clean line, and dry fairly fast, therefore no smudging.

I’ve used the black one a few times, however I really wanted to try out the blue and white. You may think that a white liquid liner is odd, however, these were made for layering.  What I usually do with coloured liner is apply a thin liner over top of a black cat eye. What this does is give you a wink of colour that is so subtle, but really adds a pop of your look.

The colour on these are very pigmented. I was the most impressed with the blue TBH since it went on so vibrant and paired beautifully with the black. For the white, I used this underneath the winged black and a little in my waterline, however, I don’t find liquid liners stay well when you put them there.

The tip of these liners are firm, yet easy to work with. And, depending on how hard you press, it can give you a really thin line or a thick one.  As for wearability, these stayed vibrant from the time I put them on (around 4:30 p.m.) to the time I washed them off (around 10:30 p.m.). I will also note that my friends and I went out for dinner beforehand and my one friend who always cracks me up had me literally crying at the table from laughter and they didn’t budge. I kept asking if my eyeliner was running, and surprisingly it didn’t (shocking actually since I was wearing three different colours).

Like I said, I try out a lot of different liquid eyeliners and some are definitely better than others. These Colour Precise ones from Rimmel London are very impressive and I like the fact that they offer a white and blue, as usually black and brown are the most common. These retails for C$9.99 at drugstores.

Have you tried out Rimmel London’s Colour Precise Eyeliners?

Stolen from the BF: Three men’s products that can double up for women

mens-title

Ever been somewhere and you totally forgot your moisturizer? Or shaving cream? Well, if you’re travelling with a significant other (or male bestie), don’t be afraid to dig through their toiletry bag and steal some of their products.

Okay, but in all reality, sometimes men’s products are super useful for women as well. A few months ago, the Internet was going crazy over Nivea Mens’ Post Shave Balm because NikkieTutorials said the C$7.47 product was the world’s best makeup primer. Why does it work so well? It’s because of the high concentration of glycerine, a binding agent. So with a shaving product being so amazing for makeup application, there’s so many other men’s products out there that also can do wonders for women’s skin.  Here are my top three.

jack-black

Jack Black Beard Lube Conditioning Shave

Jack Black’s Beard Lube Conditioning Shave is one of the brand’s star products. This all-in-one shave formula is a pre-shave oil, shaving cream, and skin conditioner.  For men, it works to penetrate the whiskers to soften tough beards. It contains macadamia nut oil and jojoba oil to penetrate below the surface of the skin to soften new whisker growth and minimize irritation.

Well, it does the same thing for women. Slather a good amount of this product on your legs to give you an amazing shave, and best of all, the skin conditioner and the pre-shave oil leaves your skin feeling nice and soft, as well as radiant.

You can find it at Sephora for C$22.

Jack Black Clean-Break Oil-Free Moisturizer

Another Jack Black product, this moisturizer offer oil-free hydration and antioxidant protection, while helping to improve skin tone and texture. I love using this moisturizer because it doesn’t leave any shine on your face, giving you the perfect base for your foundation.  It also contains sodium hyaluronate, which replenishes skin and retains moisture without the use of heavy oils, as well as niacinamide, which improves skin’s elasticity and texture.

Men typically have thicker skin, as well as more oilier skin (testosterone increases oil production), so using a men’s moisturizer will be thicker in texture. This one is a little thicker than my “women’s” moisturizer, however it spreads nice and evenly and doesn’t feel filmy on your face.

You can find it at Sephora for C$39.

mitchum

Men’s Mitchum Dry Advanced Control Spray

I have a friend who in high school would always use men’s deodorant. I thought that was odd until she explained that men’s deodorant helped her more with perspiration.

I’ve been digging Mitchum’s Dry Advanced Control Spray, however I find the women’s scents to be either too powdery or too floral. My favourite scent is actually one of the men’s ones. This deodorant is super easy to apply as you just spray it on, it provides maximum wetness protection with 48-hour wetness and odour protection, and it’s a more fresh scent that baby powder (seriously, why is that a women’s scent?).

You can find Mitchum Dry Advanced Control Spray at drugstores nationwide for around $10.

Just because it’s technically a men’s product, doesn’t mean you can’t use it. Do you use any male products in your regime?
