#BeautyBlogger: Rimmel London Insta collection

I’m such a sucker for any collection that has the word “insta” in it.

There’s been a few from different brands over the years, and when I saw Rimmel London’s collection, I had to have it. It didn’t even matter what products were in it, I just needed it.

Luckily, there’s some good stuff in here..

This selfie-ready collection consists of seven face products to give you a picture-perfect look. From colour correctors to a primer/setting spray, this collection focuses on the face to give you a flawless canvas perfect for your next Instagram selfie.

Rimmel London #Insta Fix and Go Primer and Setting Spray

I received six of the seven products and have been wearing them pretty much non-stop since I got them. Start your routine with the Insta Fix & Go 2-in-1 primer and setting spray, which  can be used either under makeup or over it to lock it into place for up to eight hours. I was very excited to get this setting spray since I find these to be integral in any makeup routine. Unfortunately, this tends to spray the product on your skin, rather than mist it, so I find that it doesn’t really apply the product evenly, plus if you open your eyes too soon they may burn. The formula is nice and it smells good, but I wish the spray part was a little better (although I do find this to be a common issue with setting sprays in general).

Also part of the line is an actual primer, the Insta Flawless Primer, which creates flawless skin by reducing the appearance of imperfections and making your makeup last longer. I didn’t receive this item so I can’t touch on how well it works.

Next up is the Insta Flawless Perfecting Radiant Skin Tint, which is kind of like a BB cream. You can apply this as is, with no primer, and it helps to enhance your complexion by giving you glowy skin, as well as also erasing the signs of fatigue. I thought this would be more like a BB cream, but it gives you more coverage.  It’s rather light on the face blended nicely so it looks natural.  There are two available shades, light/medium and medium/dark, I obviously got the light/medium. For a collection that revolves around having insta-ready skin, you would think they would have come out with a full-coverage concealer, so I’m a little shocked by this product (with that being said, I did find myself surprisingly really enjoying this). Rimmel does recommend layering it under your foundation if you want a more full coverage, but for everyday wear, this does work nicely.

Undereyes looking dull? Have some acne going on? The Insta Conceal & Correct contains three colour correctors to correct any flaws you may have. Use the peach for dark circles, the green for redness, and the violet for dullness. After, grab the Insta Conceal & Contour, which is a multi-tasking palette that adds light and dark to your face. Use it to highlight, conceal, and contour. I’ve only used this so far to conceal, since I have always used the Insta Duo Contour Stick for those other applications. As a concealer it’s alright, it does the trick but I wouldn’t rate it in my Top 10.

To add a bit more contour to the cheekbones, try the Insta Duo Contour Stick, which is a double-ended cream stick that is designed to carve our cheekbones and add a little shimmer as well. One end is bronzing and the other is for strobing. I like the ease of this product, however, once blended in it it is quite subtle, I recommend layering it under a powder bronzer and highlighter to really define your contour and strobe. If you’re new to contouring and would rather go in with a light hand, this would be the perfect product for you. The formula is extremely cream and it blends nicely. It’s available in three shades, Light, Medium, and Dark.

Finally, set it all with the Insta Fix & Matte, a micro-fine translucent powder for all skin tones. Complete with little hashtags embossed in the powder, I really like this to set all the other products since they are creams. I like glowy, but sometimes I like it toned down a bit (especially if I’m doing a selfie).  Finish up with a few final sprays of the Insta Fix & Go Setting Spray, grab your phone, and snap away!

Rimmel London Insta Fix & Matte

Overall I thought this collection was okay. I really do love the product range, but I would have loved it even more if they came out with a medium-to-full coverage foundation (if I’m going to take a selfie, you better believe I’m going to wear the most flawless-looking foundation I own). I like the little colour correcting and concealing palettes since they are so small and handy (perfect to throw in your bag or for travel), as well as the setting powder. I’ve never really been a huge fan of contour sticks in general since I find them a pain to blend (anyone else get that annoying line when they add in the liquid blush?), although this one isn’t that bad, I just personally prefer powder.

With all that being said though, considering this is a drugstore range, the products do a good job. My makeup was still looking flawless after hours of wearing the products. Although there are better products out there, these definitely do the trick.

Kiss of a peach: Too Faced Peaches and Cream Moisture Matte Long Wear Lipsticks

It’s no lie that I love matte liquid lipsticks. Although I prefer a liquid formula, I’ve been trying out a lot of traditional formulas as well (you know, the ones in the tube?) and have been finding that they pack some serious punch that matches their liquid competitors.

A couple weeks back I blogged about the new Too Faced Peaches and Cream collection that deserves all the hype since the products are seriously amazing. Same goes for the lipsticks. As part of the collection, Too Faced has released a staggering 20 shades of the Matte Longwear lipsticks (C$25 each). These guys are infused with the same peach and sweet fig cream-infused formula as the rest of the line and are a non-drying comfortable-wearing creamy matte lipstick available in a range of shades.

Although there are 20 colours to choose from, I received eight of them, and guys, I am in love. Everything about these, from the cute white tube that shows you the colour on the top, to the embossing on the product itself, to the smell, to the colour range, this collection is a must. First off, the colour range is so much fun, there’s tons of bright pinks (when I saw I Think In Pink, I literally gasped out loud), nuder than nude nudes, purples, oranges, reds.. you name it. Like I mentioned, these do have embossing on the bullet, with the TF logo at the top and then little peaches down the sides.

The shades I received are Doll Face (nudie peach), Sunday Funday (warm nude), Sex on the Peach (spiced mauve), Peach Beach (peach coral), Pink with a Wink (bubblegum pink), Makeup Me Happy (romantic pink), I Think in Pink (shocking pink), and Drunk Dial (berry velvet). It’s hard to choose a favourite since all of them are so gorgeous to look at and wear.

The colour applies in one swipe and it is bold, deep colour that is both comfortable to wear and stays on for a long time (Too Faced promises eight hours of wear). I do recommend having smooth lips when wearing these though because dry or peeling lips will show up (as you will see in the below swatch of I Think in Pink.  Also, unlike their liquid counterparts, these do not dry down, so if you’re eating or drinking, the colour will transfer.

From what I understand these are exclusive to Sephora, so I highly recommend checking them out in store. Seriously guys, I am in love with every shade, and that scent? I just can’t get enough of it!

Shout it out: Almay One Coat Mega Volume mascara

I love trying out new mascaras.

Although I have some favourites that are by more expensive brands (Too Faced and Tarte), I love it when a drugstore mascara surprises me. I have so many favourites from CoverGirl and Maybelline, that when a new affordable mascara comes across my desk, I get really excited to try it. Will it be my new favourite?

Almay One Coat Mega Volume mascara Almay One Coat Mega Volume mascara brush

I recently received the Almay One Coat Mega Volume mascara as part of the Almay VoxBox on Influenster. I’ve dabbled into Almay products in the past, but for the most part, I haven’t used a ton of products from the brand. This mascara is designed to give you major lashes in one swipe thanks to its unique “megaphone” brush. The brush starts skinny then expands to a wider base.  It’s a little odd since the widest part of the brush is at the end, making it a little difficult to apply the mascara without getting it on the inner eye area.

The mascara is available in three shades (black, brown, and blue), as well as a waterproof version. The idea of the brush is to add volume to your lashes, so you can either comb the flat end of the brush vertically through the lashes, flip it and sweep it through the ends of your lashes, or invert the brush and pull upwards. If you’re like me though, you’ll just apply it the normal way and hope that the product doesn’t get on your skin.

Okay, so the fact that I don’t like the brush aside, formula-wise, it’s okay. It does give some lift to my lashes. They don’t look fuller or anything, but the mascara does the trick. I just can’t get over how inconvenient the brush is, and because of that, this mascara is a miss for me. The brush would work better if it was flipped, so it was skinny at the end and wider at the beginning. It’s just too much of a hassle to deal with, and if you’re like me and only have like 15 minutes to get ready in the morning, you don’t want to deal with mascara getting on your lids because of this weirdly-shaped brush.

Have you tried the Almay One Coat Mega Volume mascara? What were your thoughts?

Please note, I received this mascara free from Influenster. All opinions are my own.
