Pearls and LBDs: OPI x Breakfast at Tiffany’s holiday 2016 collection

title

Fun fact about me, I have never seen the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s. To be honest, I’m not even really sure what it’s about.

The iconic movie starring Audrey Hepburn is so synonymous with lots of things, pearls, Tiffany and Co., little black dresses, croissants, oversized sunglasses, those long cigarette holders…  Although I’m not familiar with the storyline of the movie, I know the iconic Holly Golightly look.

gel-colour

To celebrate this classic film, OPI has released a 16 colour collection of nail polishes, 12 shades in GelColour and nail lacquer and six shades in Infinite Shine and GelColour.

Since the holidays are well known for jewel tones and glitter, there are tons of reds (four of them) and some sparkle polishes are well (also four).  Then there’s Tiffany’s blue, a black, and some silvers to round out the collection.

In the Infinite Shine line, there’s only one colour that is repeated (I Believe in Manicures- the Tiffany blue), and five others that I’m sorry to say aren’t the most holiday-esque shades. In the swatches below, the Infinite Shine polishes are the ones with the silver caps.

Overall this isn’t my favourite holiday collection, but there are some shades in here that I really do love. I was very excited about the glitters, however, as you can see, they go on quite sheer, so you’ll definitely have to layer them (Sunrise… Bedtime! is amazing over Apartment for Two).

A lot of the colours are highly dupable and this collection could really be for any season, not just holidays. If you’re fan of Breakfast at Tiffany’s though, you’ll want to get your pretty little paws on some of these.

Have you picked up any shades from OPI x Breakfast at Tiffany’s collection?

Let it snow! 2016 holiday items from Too Faced Cosmetics

too-faced-title

One of my favourite beauty brands to watch around the holiday season has got to be Too Faced Cosmetics. Their holiday collection is always so on point, cute, and one of the best bangs for your buck.

I’ve received their holiday blockbuster set for the past four years and usually the whole collection revolves around a theme. Last year was Paris, a couple years before that the Sound of Music, and this year it’s New York.  I mean, what could be more magical than Christmas in New York?!

From eyeshadow sets to stocking stuffers to gifts you can split up among friends, Too Faced has the cutest items for anyone’s holiday list.

stocking-stuffers

Okay first up, have someone on your list you already have a gift for, but you want to throw in something extra but don’t know what? There are tons of little items that would make great present toppers or stocking stuffers this season.

There are a couple lip product ornaments, such as the Lip Injection Lip Plumper, which includes a deluxe size of this clear gloss which plumps up lips. There is also a deluxe-size Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick ornament in Melted Berry, as well as a mini Better Than Sex mascara that you can choose from. All three retail for C$15 each.

A cute small gift that would be perfect for a friend is the Let it Glow Highlight and Blush Kit, which I’ve previously talked about in my top three highlighters for the season post last week. This set includes deluxe sizes of Candlelight Glow Highlighting Powder Duo in Rosy Glow, a Love Flush 16-Hour Blush in Love Hangover, a Snow Bunny Luminous Bronzer, and the cutest mini kabuki brush.

split-up-gifts

Now if your list includes lots of friends then you’re in luck since Too Faced always kills it every year with sets that can be gifted as a whole or split up. Want your squad to get the same thing but in colours that match their skin tone? Then check out Naughty Kisses and Sweet Cheeks, which is a set that comes with three deluxe Lip Injection Glossy Lip Glosses and three coordinating Love Flush Blushes, all individually packaged and then housed in one box.  Too Faced did something similar to this last year and I loved how I only had to pay one price and then split these guys up. This set retails for C$45, so that’s $15 for each duo.

Similar, but not individually packaged, the Merry Kissmas set has four deluxe tubes of their Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipsticks in original, chocolate, and matte formulas. You can either gift this set as a whole or split them up.  This one is great since the Melted lip products are super popular and if you have a friend who has always wanted to try them, then this the perfect chance since you get the three formulas and a myriad of different shades.

Okay I saved the best one for last here. The Grande Hotel Cafe (C$62) is housed in a mini hotel box and opens up to reveal three coffee-scented eyeshadow palettes. This one is for the Starbucks lover as the palettes include peppermint mocha, gingerbread coffee and eggnog latte (yes, they do smell, and yes, it’s amazing).

Between the three there are 18 matte and shimmer eyeshadows, two coordinated blushes, and a bronzer.  They even threw in a mini of the Better Than Sex mascara (which is one of my favourite mascaras by the way).

Too Faced did a similar set to this one last year and I think this makes an awesome gift as the packaging is adorable, the colours are showstopping, and it smells. If you really wanted as well, you could split this one up, however, it’s gorgeous to receive in the little hotel-inspired box.

For those who love the big blockbuster sets, Too Faced has come out with The Chocolate Shop, which comes with just about everything you would need to do an eye, cheek, and lip look (all you need is foundation and concealer). Although I didn’t receive this set this year, I have gotten it for the past four years and always found that it’s amazing value for the product you get. The one this year retails for C$72 and it has a value of C$347. Plus, there’s a dog on the packaging. Who wouldn’t want that for a gift? 😛

Are any Too Faced sets on your wish list this year?

Fall back: Drugstore favourites for the autumn season

title

Okay so I know I have been jumping the gun on holiday posts as of late, but if you’re like me, you may do some off your holiday shopping early.  Let’s hold the horses here for a little bit and chat about fall.

We’ve been having an amazing fall here in Winnipeg. There isn’t snow yet (which is rare), some days we’ve had plus weather, and there’s been tons of sun.  With that being said though, my body has definitely been feeling the season with the occasional dry skin. Everything from my lips to my hands to even my scalp as been gasping for moisture.

To combat all this dryness I’ve been using some fall faves, including a moisturizing body wash, dandruff shampoo (yes, you can use this even if you don’t have dandruff), and a tinted lip balm.

hair hair-from-back

For my hair, I’ve been loving Head & Shoulders Instant Cooling Relief shampoo and conditioner.  Since dandruff runs in my family, I often notice flakes around my scalp, which makes it even more noticeable since I have darker roots. This duo is formulated with tea tree essence and peppermint oil and helps soothe the scalp and gives you relaxing and revitalizing sense of relief since it’s cooling. I pair it with the Olay Fresh Outlast Crisp Pear & Fiji Apple body wash that is designed to work with your skin’s natural pH levels, plus the scent will totally have you dreaming of summer.

After the shower I typically curl my hair once it’s dry. I use Pantene Curl Defying Mousse to help my curls keep their bounce once my hair is styled and then refresh my hairstyle after a few days courtesy of Herbal Essences Naked Dry Shampoo.

makeup

For the face, I start off first with my daily moisturizer and then apply an eye cream, such as the Olay Eyes Ultimate Eye Cream for winkles, puffy eyes, and dark circles. An eye cream is a must for me since I want to prevent wrinkles and signs of aging before they happen. This one in particular contains a colour-correcting technology that acts as a touch of concealer and its formula is supercharged with peptides and vitamins.

For makeup, I’ve been doing a super simple routine of a lightweight foundation, then concealer, blush and bronzer. For a primer I’ve been loving CoverGirl TruBLEND Makeup Primer since it’s good for all skin types and creates a smooth canvas for the rest of your makeup.  After my foundation and concealer (I’ve been using Make Up For Ever Aqua Blend on repeat), I apply a light contour with the CoverGirl TruBLEND Bronzer, which is a baked formula meaning that it’s more natural on the skin. Same with the CoverGirl TruBLEND Blush, which I use for a slight glow.

zig-and-i

For the eyes, I’ve been keeping it natural courtesy of the CoverGirl TruBLEND Roses Eyeshadow Palette.  I love these palettes as the pigmentation is amazing and the colours are so creamy and blend great. I have this palette in the Nudes and Goldens as well and they’ve both gotten some major use. To finish up the look, I slather on the CoverGirl Oh, Sugar! lip balm in Cupcake, which is infused with vitamins so it’s nourishing on the lips and provides slight colour.

It’s really important to keep everything moisturized as we head into the winter season.  Thankfully all of these products are quite affordable and widely available at drugstores (total score!).

What are your fall must-have products to combat dryness?
