Looking for the perfect summertime lipstick?
Okay, so I know lipsticks are kind of hard to pull off right now due to the whole mask situation, but if you are looking for something hydrating, glossy, and the right amount of colour, then you need to try Fenty Beauty’s new Slip Shine Sheer Shiny Lipsticks (C$29).
These lipsticks, available in 10 shades, are a sheer lipstick that gives you comfort and colour, as well as the right amount of shine. Unlike their other lipsticks, these are more hydrating in texture and give off a more sheer colour rather than a pigmented one.
The shade range in here is quite vast, meaning you’ll definitely find the right colour for you (and lots of nudes, might I add, a total plus in my books!). These lipsticks, which are cruelty-free like all of Fenty’s products, are infused with pomegranate butter to condition your lips and keep them hydrated as you wear it. With that being said, there is still some substance in here and it doesn’t feel like your typical lip balm since it stays in place and doesn’t slide around. I also want to add that some of the shades have some added sparkle in them making them extra show stopping.
Although some of the colours definitely look bold when you open the tubes (like Vamps Who Brunch), they do give off more of a subtle colour, but still enough that it’s noticeable on the lips. In swatching these, I was actually quite impressed with how they turned out and even the shades I didn’t think I would like that much, I ended up really enjoying how they looked on once applied.
Regardless of if you are wearing a mask or not, I do recommend picking up a shade or two from this collection since it’s really a triple whammy. You get sheer colour, hydration, and some glossy vibes. I mean, what else could you possibly want from a lip product?

Can you ever really have enough hair tools?
The answer is always no.
I kid you not, I have probably five or six different curling irons (they are all different, I swear!), but when it comes to straighteners, I only have one (I mean really, you only need one). Since my hair dries straight, I don’t usually straighten my hair that often as I’m more of a curl kind of girl. I have tried using my straightener to do flat iron curls but I always find that they never work when I try doing them as either my hair slips out or I get dents since the plates have more edges to them that makes it difficult to smoothly run it through my hair.
Then I got the new ghd Platinum+ Styler.
This new styling tool from pro haircare brand ghd (which stands for Good Hair Day) looks and works like a straightener, but is so much more than that. Not only can you seamlessly straighten your hair, but since the plates feature a more rounded curve to them it makes it perfect to use to curl or wave your hair as well.
So what makes this styler different from a hair straightener? Well, it features technology that predicts the needs of your hair as you style it, meaning that it will be a completely personalized experience every time you use it. As you are styling your hair, the device recognizes the thickness of your hair, as well as styling speed and adjusts the heat across the floating plates as you run it through your hair. As a result, you get perfect style every time.
As for temperature, this works at an optimum styling temperature of 185 degrees, so there is less heat damage, protecting your hair without compromising the quality of the style when you use it. Ghd says that you get 70 per cent stronger hair, 20 per cent more shine, and two-times more colour protection.
Since this device is called a styler rather than a straightener, that means you can use it for pretty much any style. Straight hair, wavy hair, curly hair, mermaid hair.. you name it. Remember how I was saying that I can never curl my hair with a flat iron? This device features a unique wishbone hinge that holds the precision-milled plates in perfect alignment, meaning that as you run this through your hair it will be smooth with no jerking or stopping, which is usually what happens when I try to curl my hair.
My favourite part? You know that scary feeling of “did I turn off my straightener?!” when you’re driving to work? Well, in case you did leave it on, it actually shuts off after 30 minutes.
In case you can’t tell already, but I really love this styler and find that not only does it do a great job of straightening my hair, but I can finally achieve those flat iron curls of my dreams. This makes it so easy to curl your hair since the device is designed to glide through the hair.
I love using this styler after I dry my hair with their Helios Blowdryer for a salon-worthy style.
The ghd Helios Professional Hairdryer (C$299) is a light and fast hairdryer that is designed to dry your hair quickly, while leaving it smooth and shiny. The dryer features 2,200 watts, meaning that it will dry your hair in no time (it takes me around 3.5 minutes from damp to dry). It also gives you 30 per cent shinier hair.
Now if you’re like me and find that drying your hair can be a chore and a workout, you’ll actually be quite excited to pull this guy out. The dryer has an ergonomic design, meaning it distributes the weight evenly so it’s not top heavy. It’s pleasant to hold and style and even comes with a concentrated nozzle for the best temperature control and airflow distribution. It’s also not as loud as other dryers, which is a total plus if you’re like me and like to watch TV or YouTube videos while styling your hair.

I love using these two devices together and find that they really do give me salon-quality style. Since it’s summer time and I’m still working from home, I have been letting my hair air dry a little more lately, but I like to use the Helios dryer when my hair is about 70 per cent dry to give it some added shine and then go in with the Platinum+ Styler for some beachy waves. I have seriously wondered how often Avon releases new products. It seems like every week I have been getting in boxes from the beauty brand. I mean, not that I’m complaining, but it seems that they are constantly releasing new items.
I have been a fan of Avon since I was a kid. I remember my mom used to buy these roll-on body washes that were so fun to play around with in the bath and came in all sorts of different colours. So, when they reached out probably a year ago now asking for my address, it brought back nostalgia and it’s almost come full circle since they were probably the first beauty brand I ever used.
Now I don’t know if they still make those kids body washes, but since I’m a full-fledged adult now, obviously I’ve upgraded my bath routine. The brand actually just came out with a new Senses Body Care Collection that came at the perfect time since it’s officially summer now!
Available in a trio of a body mist, body lotion, and shower gel, the Avon Senses collection is the perfect pick me up to start your day. It comes in three different scents and each one plays on a different mood. There’s Fresh Bergamot and Wild Mint for those days where you want to feel refreshed and radiant, Cozy Vanilla and Coconut for the ultimate summer mood booster, and Sparkling Grapefruit and Orange Blossom for an energizing and playful feeling.
The brand sent me the Fresh Bergamot and Wild Mint trio and I do have to say that it smells so delish. I’ve always been a fan of bergamot in general so I knew I would really love this scent, which also features grapefruit, orange blossom, honeysuckle, and peach.
Start first with the Shower Gel (C$24), which is a moisturizing cleanser derived from coconut, then afterwards use the Body Lotion ($24), which has shea butter and vitamin E in it to hydrate and leave you with soft skin. Finally, spray on the Body Mist (C$25.50), which gives you a refreshing burst of fragrance and leaves skin feeling soothed since it has aloe vera extract in it as well.
Now that your skin is all hydrated and smelling amazing, treat your lips to a little flavour as well.
I’ve chatted about some of the other VDL products that Avon has released with the Korean beauty brand and the newest one is the Primer, Balm, and Tint VDL Tint Bar Triple Shot lipsticks (C$33). This lip product, which is available in three shades, is a multi-layered lipstick that is designed to give you colour, as well as shiny lips. They have a moisturizing royal jelly in them to leave lips feeling hydrated, tinted, and glossy.
These come in a red, pink, and peach shade and give off just enough colour that you can really wear these in any situation. Since they are shiny, I find they also make lips look slightly more full. They are expensive but are one of those lipsticks that you’ll be gravitating towards all summer long.
