NOTD: Essie Nothing Else Metals

Essie’s Nothing Else Metals is described as a lilac colour, but to me it’s very subtle (in fact I only noticed it’s lilac tone when I was outside).  It looks purple in the bottle, but can be more of a subtle pink once applied on the nails (depending on the lighting).

These metallic colours from the new collection are all very similar, the formulation is great, it’s opaque in one coat, dries fast, and is super shiny.  I feel like I have tin foil on my nails when I sport these hues.  I wasn’t blown away by Nothing Else Metals in the bottle (it looks darker than it s in the bottle) but it’s really pretty once applied on the nails. I used Seche Vite base coat underneath with Poshe’s top coat on top.  These last a couple days before minimal chipping starts.

If you like pinks and purples I would pick this up.  Like I mentioned in my Essie Mirror Metallics post, I wasn’t impressed with these when I first got the bottles, but once applied they are unlike anything I have ever tried.

NOTD: Essie Penny Talk

Fresh from Essie’s new Mirror Metallic collection, Penny Talk is a “statement-making incandescent copper”, however, to me it’s more of a rose gold.

Rose gold has been super popular lately with everyone and their dog wanting to own or already owning a Michael Kors rose gold watch (I own one, Ziggy doesn’t… yet).  Or even, even rose gold piece of jewelry.  Anyways, Penny Talk is the perfect hue to jump on the trend bandwagon.

I used two coats of the polish to get an opaque finish, however, one was only probably needed (I used two to make sure it wasn’t streaky).  The formulation dries quickly and I finished off the mani with Poshe’s top coat (my new obsession).

This colour is really gorgeous in person and it’s no doubt going to be the showstopper of the collection. I have gotten so many compliments on it already and it’s definitely one of those shades that you can either dress up or down, perfect for all occasions.

Essie Mirror Metallics collection

When I first saw Essie’s new collection I was a bit shocked.  When I think of Essie nail polishes, the first thing that comes to mind are soft, pastel colours.  So when I saw that they released a metallic collection, it caught me off guard.

Essie’s Mirror Metallic collection consists of five hues, No Place Like Chrome, a “richly oxidized nickel”, aka silver; Good as Gold, gold; Nothing Else Metals, an “ultra-modern lilac alloy”; Blue Rhapsody, a “heavy metal air force blue”; and Penny Talk, a “statement-making incandescent copper”, which bears an uncanny resemblance to more of a rose gold.

I’m going to be honest here, when I first saw the collection, I didn’t really like it.  However, when I started trying out the colours, they are unlike anything I have ever used before.  The formulation on these are great; not only are they opaque on one coat, but they dry fast, are super shiny, and extremely eye catching.  I wore No Place Like Chrome with OPI’s Rainbow Connection over top for my birthday and they were a perfect match, my nails reminded me of ribbons (and it looked similar to Sally Hansen’s Real Nail Polish Strips in Frock Star).

I think the real star in the collection is Penny Talk, as rose gold is super popular right now.  The colour is very subtle at first but then when you start flashing your nails around it is so pretty to look at (plus, it matches my rose gold Michael Kors watch).

Stay tuned for separate blog posts about all of these colours, coming soon.  If there is one thing to keep in mind about this collection, it’s this: even if you don’t like metallic nail polish (like me), try it out anyways. The colour goes on way nicer than what’s in the bottle.
