The multi-tasker: It Cosmetics Vitality Lip Flush Anti-Aging Lipstick

I am the first to say that I have an obsession with lipsticks. And, it’s not just any kind of lipstick, I have a strong liking towards pink ones, preferably of the baby pink variety.

Now my collection is pretty big, I would say I have enough pink lipsticks to satisfy every girl in a high school class,  but when it comes to gloss, that’s where I usually stay back. I used to be a bit of a gloss girl growing up but I always found it either too sticky on my lips or it wouldn’t last as long as I wanted it to.  Also, I prefer not feeling like I am wearing something on that area of my face.

It Cosmetics sent over their Vitality Lip Flush Anti-Aging lipstick a few weeks back and the product claims to be a four-in-one product: a lipstick, anti-aging balm, ultra-hydrating lip gloss, and lip stain.  Okay, so those are four completely different products.

From The Shopping Channel:

The Vitality 4-in-1 Anti-aging lip stains are developed to give that long-wear flush of naturally pretty colour without drying out your lips. Plum oil, cherry oil, Shea butter, aloe and jojoba all work together to help treat and drench your lips with hydration. Vitamins A,C, & E, acai, green and white teas help to protect and ward off free radicals.

The product comes in three different shades and I got the lightest one, called Je Nais Sais Quoi, which is described as a sheer pink.  When I first opened the product I actually thought it was a balm, the stick looked so light.  When I actually applied the product, the colour developed into a nice light pink colour on my lips; not a baby pink, but still pretty, almost like a rosy pink.  The product actually reminds me of eating a watermelon freezie, you know that stain you get when you eat one?  It’s similar to the effect of this lipstick.

So does it actually do all it claims it does.  Yes.  I have been carrying this with me non-stop because of all it’s benefits.  If I feel like a little colour on my lips, I will apply it.  If I feel like my lips are chapped, I grab this product. Even when the glossy shine is gone, the colour is still on my lips.  I was a little hesitant to try this out at first because I am a bit of a lipstick snob, but It Cosmetics really hit the ball out of the park with this product.

The Vitality lipsticks retails in a trio with Je Nais Sais Quoi, Love Story (a “rich, just bitten pink”), and Pretty Woman (a “sheer berry”) for $39.50 on QVC.com (The Shopping Channel in Canada also carried this product but it is sold out online). QVC also offers this as a duo as well. The other colours I find are a bit too dark for my liking but they may develop into a nice shade once applied.  I wish that the company offered more shades to choose from.

I have tried a number of products from the company and have loved everything that I got the chance to dabble in.  I wish it was more easily accessible, but if you haven’t gotten a chance to try out something from them as of yet, I highly recommend the brand.

Have you tried It Cosmetics Vitality Lip Flush Anti-Agiing Lipsticks?  If so, what were your thoughts?

Look good, feel confident: It Cosmetics Brow Power pencil + giveaway! (CLOSED)

A few weeks ago, the nice people folks over at It Cosmetics contacted me to see if I wanted to try out their Brow Power Pencil.  I did a post about their Brow Power Perfector pencils a few weeks ago, and that combined with the fact that my brows are pretty thick and dark already, I was a bit skeptical. Then I read that for every Brow Power pencil sold, It Cosmetics donates one Brow Power pencil to its partner, the American Cancer Society’s Look Good, Feel Better program, which helps women face the effects of cancer with confidence.

Cancer is something that runs in my family and I have had a number of relatives die from the awful disease.  The most common cancer in women is breast cancer, and on average 62 women are diagnosed with the disease every day in Canada, with 14 women dying every day from it.  And it’s not just women, men can be affected by breast cancer as well (I actually met a man at a conference with breast cancer a few months ago).   And, it’s not just breast cancer that affects women.  According to the Canadian Cancer Society, in 2012, approximately 88,800 Canadian women will be diagnosed with cancer, and an estimated 36,200 women will die of cancer.

The American Cancer Society’s Look Good, Feel Better program is a non-medical, brand-neutral public service program that teaches beauty techniques to cancer patients to help them manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment.

Look Good Feel Better group programs are open to all women with cancer who are undergoing chemotherapy, radiation, or other forms of treatment. In the United States alone, more than 700,000 women have participated in the program, which now offers 14,500 group workshops nationwide in more than 3,000 locations.  There is also a Canadian Look Good, Feel Better program as well.

A couple of years ago, a classmate and I did a fashion show for a school project.  We worked closely with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and actually raised close to C$4,000 towards breast cancer research.

With October being breast cancer month I thought that this post would be fitting because of the charitable connection with this pencil.  The Brow Power pencil contains GrowLuxe technology which targets the look of growth, including Saw Palmetto, Nettle Flower Extract, Horsetail Flower Extract, Green Tea Extract, and Grapeseed Extract.  So basically the pencil targets brow hair loss and restores brow hair follicles, promoting healthy hair growth, which is perfect for those who lost their eyebrows due to chemotherapy, a common treatment for cancer which can result in hair loss.

In addition, the pencil also contains anti-aging Biotin, Lecithin, Penthenol, and Vitamins A, C, and E; it’s long-wearing, waterproof, sweatproof, and smudge resistant; and it’s paraben-free, non-comedogenic, and hypo-allergenic.

The product is dual-ended, with one side being the retractable pencil and the other being a spoolie. As for colours, unlike the Brow Power Perfector, the Brow Power pencil comes in one universal shade and depending on how hard you press it on your skin that determines the colour it will result in.  For example, press light for blonde and silver hair; press medium for brunette, red, and grey hair; and press hard for dark brunette and black hair.

The above photo are my plain brows with no product added.  I actually never really bothered filling in my eyebrows until recently because I didn’t need it. Even now, I’ll just use the product on top to make it the edges nice and clean.

In the above photo, my left brow is done using the pencil.  As you can see, my eyebrow looks much more groomed.

To finish the brow process I also used It Cosmetics Brow Power Lift, which is one of my favourite products; it’s a dual-ended pencil, one side is a pearl highlight, and the other is a matte highlight.  I use the pearl side along my brow bone and the matte side over top to really give the appearance of polished brows.

I have been using the Brow Power pencil since I got it and have been really liking it.  I think my favourite part about it is the fact that you don’t have to sharpen it.  Compared to their Brow Power Perfecter, this one is better for those of you who just want to grab something and go. It’s one universal shade so you don’t have to worry about ordering the wrong colour and plus you just twist it up to get more product.  I have to say though, that their Brow Power Perfecter is a creamier product to use.  Although they are both brow pencils their functions are a bit different.  If you are looking for something that targets brow growth, I would pick this one up; if you are looking for something that is an all-in-one product (waterproof, powder, gel, and pencil), then I would go for the Perfecter.  Also, don’t forget, with the Brow Power pencil, It Cosmetics donates one to Look Good, Feel Better.

The Brow Power pencil retails for $24 and is available at itcosmetics.com, QVC and QVC.com, Beauty.com, and at The Shopping Channel in Canada and PM Studio in Australia.

Fitness Fridays: Nike Free Run+3 Runners review

I was never a big runner growing up.  I remember in gym class we would have to do a few 12 minute runs a couple times a year and I would basically just walk the gym.  When I started running on a treadmill in university I could only go two minutes before I had to slow down.  Well, time and persistence paid off and now running is my cardio of choice.

I usually work out five to six days a week for at least half an hour.  I teach an hour-long group fitness class about three to four days a week, so my off days are usually filled with running. I used to have a gym membership where I would use the treadmills but I got rid of it because of the amount of times I teach the class a week.  Since I don’t own a treadmill at home, I took up outdoor running.

Alright, so when it comes down to it, the most important part, in my opinion, is what is on your feet.  I have a pair of Adidas runners that I use to teach with because they are sturdy, but I have often found that even on a treadmill, they can weigh my feet down.  Being the shallow person that I am, I originally picked up the Nike Free Run+3 in Hot Punch because of their colour.  I mean, who can resist hot pink shoes?!  However, the colour isn’t the only thing irresistible about them.

From Nordstrom:

A minimal, extremely flexible running shoe with a glove-like fit helps maximize the foot’s natural range of motion while providing protection and cushioning for an ultra-lightweight, resilient ride.

The first thing I noticed about these shoes when I originally tried them on was how comfortable and weightless they are.  I bought mine at Sportchek (literally the last 7.5 they had in my city) and the sales associate said that they were Nike’s version of the Vibram FiveFingers shoes; where basically they are supposed to mimic bare-feet running.  They mould to your feet and make running so much easier because you don’t have shoes that are weighing you down.

These are my first pair of Nike runners, a brand that is synonymous with fitness, and probably won’t be my last.  I had heard a number of good things about the Free Run line and honestly, if you are a runner, I would definitely pick these up.  I found that you don’t even have to break them in due to being so flexible and light.  Although I love the pink colour, they also come in a variety of different shades.  As for pricing, they do cost a pretty penny at C$129.99, however, if you sign up for Sport Chek’s email list you get a coupon for 10 per cent off your first purchase.

I also picked up the Nike+ sensor that fits in the left shoe under the sole and if you own a pair of Nike runners and an iPod or iPhone, I would suggest picking that up.  I track every workout, so my iPhone tells me the distance I ran, how many calories I burned, how fast I was going, etc.  It then sends the info to Nike+, an online community that shows your results and progress in chart form.  You can follow friends that are also part of the Nike community.  Check back for an in-depth review on the Nike + iPod app.

My (sometimes) running buddy

Let me know if you own a pair of Nike Free Run+3 runners, and if so, your thoughts on them.
