Rock chic!

Rock chic title

I’ve had this one Covergirl lime green eyeshadow for months now but haven’t had a chance to wear it.  I have admired the shade since I got it, but with lime green, it’s kind of hard to find a place to wear it.  It’s too bold for the office, not as sultry for a night out, and too bright for a casual night in.  When I got tickets to see P!nk last week, the first thing that popped in my mind was the eyeshadow.  Yes, I had my makeup chosen before my outfit #beautybloggerproblems.

Final 1

For this tutorial, I refined the look a bit more and added a few more steps.  Of course, all you really need is a matte black and a green eyeshadows.  I did use a green base so the colour would look more vibrant, but you could always just pack on the eyeshadow, or use a white base.

Here’s how to recreate it.

steps

1. Lay down an eyeshadow primer, I used Too Faced Shadow Insurance.  After, fill in your brows.  For this look, I used Buck from the UD Naked palette and an angled eyeliner brush.

Then, with a matte white shadow, apply this to your brow bone to highlight.  I used 00 from the Make Up For Ever Technicolor Palette.

2. Moving down from the brows, apply a matte light brown shadow right underneath the highlight and above the crease.  This acts as your transition colour.  I used Naked from the UD Naked palette.

3. Apply a cream green eyeshadow all over the lid area.  Apply the cream shadow first to act as a base and to make the powder eyeshadow appear more pigmented. I used Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream in 52.  Note, MUFE Aqua Creams dry fast, so if you use this one, work fast and do one eye at a time.

4.  Go over the cream eyeshadow with your green powder eyeshadow, packing on the colour with a flat shader brush. I used Covergirl Shadow Pot in 310.

5. With either a gel eyeliner or a liquid eyeliner, line your upper lash line with an exaggerated wing.  I used Rimmel London ScandalEyes Gel Waterproof Liner in black.

6. With a matte black eyeshadow and a pencil brush, lightly line from the wing inward along your crease, creating a cut crease.  Take your time with this and build the colour up.  I used MAC Carbon eyeshadow.

7. With a crease brush, like MAC 217, lightly blend the black out along the outer edges.

8. Curl your lashes and apply mascara.  I used Covergirl Lash Blast Clump Crusher mascara with Yves Rocher Volume Vertige over top.

9. Using that same green cream eyeshadow, line your lower lash line.

10. With the matte black shadow, line the outer edges of your eyes creating a gradient effect between the green and black.  From there, line the outer corner of your waterline with a black pencil liner and then apply mascara to your lower lashes.

For the face I used Marc Jacobs Beauty Genius Gel foundation (I picked up a sample at Sephora to try out), IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereyes in Neutral Medium, Benefit Hoola Bronzer, Rimmel London Stay Blushed Liquid Cheek Tint in Peach Flush, IT Cosmetics Hello Light Illuminating Powder, and Hourglass Dim Light powder. For the lips I used MAC Myth with NYC Big Bold Gloss in Big City Blush over top.

Final 2 Final 4

Pair this look with big, voluminous curls, a leather (or faux!) moto jacket, and you are ready to rock out!

Let me know if you try it out!  Also, how to you wear green?

Raise your glass! P!nk concert with Beauty United

Covergirl

On Wednesday I got the opportunity to see one of pop’s baddest bitches, P!nk!  Real name Alicia Moore, P!nk finally hit Winnipeg’s MTS Centre on January 14 (the concert was supposed to be in October but she had to postpone it) for her Truth About Love tour to a sold-out crowd.

Since I’m a P&G Beauty United blogger and P!nk is a Covergirl, I was gifted two tickets to see the show from the P&G Beauty team.  Obviously, I took my PR gal/resident bestie Jessica and we ventured down to the MTS Centre in Downtown Winnipeg on a freezing cold – and windy- night.

Tickets

The Kin were the openers but since we had no clue who they were, we hit up Moxie’s first for drinks ($4.50 beer on special, compared to $8 at the MTS Centre – hello!) and then found our seats in section 107, which was right beside the stage.

Alright, so I like P!nk’s songs, but I’m not a hardcore die-hard fan, and Jess really only came because the ticket was free, but we both had a fab time!  P!nk really puts on a stellar show.  I had read reviews prior to going and they all said how amazing the show was, and I have to agree, she puts on an amazing concert.

To be honest, I was a bit surprised that the show was sold out; I mean, I know she’s popular but I didn’t know she was still so huge.  It was a nice mix of all ages in the audience and a lot of mom’s having a fun (and I’m sure a much-needed) girl’s night out.

From the acrobatics to the live singing, this chick is on fire.  Plus, there was one point in the show where P!nk and her backup dancers were in this cage thing, suspended above the ground and it was twirling it around, all the while, no one was wearing a harness, including P!nk.  She is not afraid to take risks.

There were some tracks that I didn’t know, but most of them were her hits, like “Raise Your Glass”, “Who Knew”, “Just Give Me a Reason”, “So What”, and others that had us on our feet singing and facing along.  The highlight of the show was definitely the encore, where she was literally flying around the whole arena, so those in the nosebleeds could get an up-close view of the singer.

Mid, low, high: makeup removers for every budget

Makeup removers

For every good makeup product out there, you need an equally good remover to take it all off at the end of the day.

Having a good makeup remover is just as important as the products you put on your face.  And just like how every mascara is different, so are the removers.

For some, good ol’ soap and water may be a fan favourite, but having a proper remover is just as important in your skin regime as a moisturizer or cleanser.  Here’s why: makeup removers wash away cosmetics and dirt from your face better than just your normal cleanser. They also reduce the risk of developing pimples, redness, blackheads, and other types of blemishes as they allow your skin to breathe.

There are many different makeup removers on the market and range in price from a couple dollars to close to a hundred.  I have tried a fair number of them and definitely have enjoyed some more than others.

Here are some popular ones that suit every budget.

Affordable

Olay Fresh Effects S’Wipe Out Refreshing Makeup Removing Wipes

These personally aren’t my favourite, but they are wallet friendly.  These claim to lift away dirt and makeup in flash, while light Olay moisture leaves skin looking and feeling refreshed.  These are good only if you are wearing light makeup.  If you have full-on glam squad, skip these and they hardly took off my smoky eye, never mind mascara.

Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes

I tried these out when they first hit North America shelves and remembered that they do a good job.  For being a drugstore product, I would recommend these and they do take off a fair amount of makeup, leaving your face feeling nice and fresh.

Mid-range

Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micelle Solution

This magic water is a beauty blogger favourite, and I can see why.  Although it is pricey for cleansing water (approx. C$22 at Shoppers Drug Mart; you can sometimes find it on sale though), this stuff is light on the eye area and does a good job of removing tricky makeup.  This stuff is great if you have sensitive skin and even removes waterproof makeup. A 250 ml bottle lasted me about a month and a half, so you can get your fair share of usage out of one bottle.

Clinique Take the Day Off Makeup Remover for Lids, Lashes and Lips

This one is the same price as the Bioderma, but is a completely different formula.  Made up of a water and oil-like mix, shake the bottle to combine the two consistencies and in doing so, it will remove even the toughest waterproof mascaras in a couple swipes.  If you are looking for something heavy duty, definitely reach for a remover that is made up of the water/oil mix as they tend to remove makeup the easiest I have found.  With that being said, I have normal skin, so if you are oily I don’t know how your skin would take to this.  Also, if you have eyelash extensions, stay away from these products, as the oil will make your lash extensions fall out; you will have to use oil-free removers.

High end, aka expensive

Shu Uemura cleansing oils

This one should come as no surprise as I have blogged and raved about these in the past.  If you are looking for the creme-de-la-creme of makeup removers, look no further than cleansing oils.  Although you can find some budget-friendly alternatives (Josie Maran), my heart is with the Shu Uemura ones.  These cult-classic oils (available in a variety of different formulas) are applied dry to the face and then with water, melts away all your makeup, leaving you with fresh and beautiful skin.  Not only do they remove makeup, but they improve the look of your skin, doesn’t dry your face out, and are enriched with skin botanicals that addresses skin problems and provides treatment.  You can either apply it the old fashioned way, or you can work the product in with your Clarisonic.  There’s a reason why one bottle is sold every seven seconds.

If you are going to invest in makeup, make sure you invest in a good remover to take it all off.

What is your favourite makeup remover?
