It was all a dream: Dior Beauty Atelier of Dreams collection for holidays 2021

So the holidays are officially over and it’s that time of the year where it gets dark early, cold, and really not much to look forward to… well of course that’s all mindset, right?

With the COVID pandemic going into a tailspin these past few weeks it has definitely put a damper on a lot of plans. Right now there isn’t too much to do since a lot of places are closed, but I still like to put a face of makeup on every once in a while.  It makes it even more special if it’s Dior.

I love Dior’s holiday collections since they are such special collections at a magical time of the year.  For 2021 they released the Atelier of Dreams collection, which pays tribute to the House of Dior thanks to the embedding of stylistic codes of the company’s flagship property in Paris.

This collection includes two eyeshadow palettes, a powdered blush, nail varnish, eyeliners, and a collection of lipsticks in both their Rouge Dior and Diorific lipsticks, and more. The brand sent me a variety of products from the line and although there isn’t much opportunity to wear it, I has brought joy and a highlight to my day.

Dior Beauty Atelier of Dreams 5 Couleurs Couture palettes

Starting first with the eyeshadow palettes, Dior has released two limited-edition versions in their 5 Couleurs Couture palettes (C$76 each).  These palettes include beautiful embossed details in the shadows, which is the emblematic facade of the House of Dior.

Atelier Doré features warm-tones of browns and gold tones, whereas House of Dreams includes cool tones of pinks, taupes, and silvers.

I’ve tried a lot of these palettes through the years and I do have to say that these have gotten better in terms of quality. I’ve never really found them to blow me away, especially considering the price point, but with the palettes in this particular collection I did find the pigmentation to be a lot better this time around and love the shade range they included in this collection.

As the name suggests, these palettes contain five colours in them ranging from velvet, matte, and satin finishes.

Diorshow 24H Stylo in Sparkling Taupe and Sparkling Brown

For the perfect eye look, pair the eyeshadows with one of the limited-edition Diorshow 24H Stylos (C$37). Special for the holidays are two colours, Sparkling Taupe and Sparkling Brown.

These liners are waterproof and glide on the lids for a waterproof wear that lasts up to 24 hours. The liner does include a built-in sharpener and a smudge tip to blend out the colour for a more smokey effect.

I love the two colours they released for the holidays since I do tend to gravitate towards a brown or a taupe as I find them to be a little lighter and softer on the eyes.  I have tried a few of these pencils through the years and have found the formula to be a little dry in the past, but really like these two and find them much creamier than others I have used.

Moving onto the lips, Dior has a couple different versions of their lipsticks available in this collection. Starting first with their Rouge Dior (C$48) formula, these lipsticks feature a case that is engraved with the motif of the 30, Avenue Montaigne facade store and the historic plaque embossed on the lipstick itself.

Available in four shades, these lipsticks are a long-wear lipstick that contains ingredients of natural origin, including red peony extract, pomegranate flower extract, and shea butter, giving you 16 hours of moisture on the lips.

Rouge Dior Atelier of Dreams lipsticks Rouge Dior Atelier of Dreams lipstick swatches Dior sent me two of the four shades, Red Pansy, a matte red brown; and Pink Rose, a pretty pink satin. I was instantly really impressed with the formula on these since they glide on the lips and leave you with opaque colour on the first swipe.

I also really love the shade range, even the red colour, which isn’t something that I usually gravitate towards.  Out of the two, I really see myself wearing the pink a lot, especially since it’s on the lighter side, so it’s a great lipstick to just have on hand for a pretty look.

Dior Diorific Atelier of Dreams lipsticks

If you are looking for a more luxurious lipstick, then take a look at their Diorific (C$50) formula. These lipsticks come in a golden case that is a figure eight silhouette, which was the lucky number of Christian Dior.

For the Atelier of Dreams holiday collection, these lipsticks feature architectural lines of the facade of the House of Dior which are embossed on the lipsticks itself.  There are four new shades in this collection, with both satin and matte finishes.

Diorific Atelier of Dreams lipsticks

Dior sent me three lipsticks from the collection, Rouge Capucine, a vibrant red; Taupe Ispahan, a carnal brown, and Rose d’Hiver, which is a beautiful rosewood colour.  These are a different formula than the Rouge Dior ones and I find them to be a more heavy-duty lipstick. I find both to be light and long-wearing and offer more rich shades than their counterparts. For reference, I think I would do the Diorific ones for night and Rouge Dior for day as I find Rouge Dior to be more hydrating and easier to wear.

Dior Diorific Vernis Atelier of Dreams collection

Finally, everyone needs some nail polish in their lives and for a super bougie look, take a look at the Diorific Vernis polishes (C$34).

For the holidays, Dior has come out with two shades in their iconic polishes, plus a glittery silver top coat.  Available in Poppy, a pretty red lacquer, and Corolle, a red-black purple, these polishes match a lot of the shades of the Diorific lipsticks in this collection as well.

These polishes come housed in a round bottle that is topped with a golden cap.  You can either wear the colours on their own, or top them off with the Bouton d’Or topcoat.  This topcoat is a gold and silver sparkle and is so perfect for the winter season.

In a limited edition, the Diorific Vernis top coat nail lacquer puts the finishing touch on your holiday manicure, lighting up the nails with a shimmering, glittery veil. Dior Atelier of Dreams collection

There are a few more items that are a part of this collection, but overall I really love what Dior has come out with for the holidays.  I also want to mention how impressed I am with the formulas on these items, especially since I feel like they have gotten better in quality over the years.

This collection is still available in stores and online, so definitely check it out while you still can.

Stay glossy: Rimmel London Oh My Gloss! Plump Lip Gloss

Okay, so I always say I have a love/hate relationship with lip glosses.

I love the look of them, but with the age of mask wearing, they just aren’t that versatile.  Even when it comes to wearing lipstick, I have a few formulas I reach for, otherwise it’s too uncomfortable.

Now with that being said, I do like pulling out a gloss if I know I’m going for a dinner or something and want to up the ante on my lip look. Although I don’t know how many dinners I’ll be going to in the future thanks to the pandemic, but when I do go to one I’ll definitely be packing one of Rimmel London’s new Oh My Gloss! Plump Lip Gloss (C$8.98).

Rimmel London Oh My Gloss! Plump Lip Gloss

The Oh My Gloss! Plump Lip Gloss is a collection of six glosses that add volume and shine to your lips. These glosses, which range in colour from pinks and nudes to berry and red, contain a combination of cinnamon, camphor, and capsicum oils to both moisturize and plump up lips.

Now if these sound familiar, you have good reason to think that.  Rimmel already has an Oh My Gloss! formula and this one adds that extra perkiness to its formula (thanks to the cinnamon). These glosses are very comfortable to wear and also give your lips a nice wash of colour, which makes them so perfect to wear either solo or over your favourite lipstick.

Overall I really like these and love the shade range that Rimmel introduced in the line. I do find them comfortable to wear and love the pouty effect that these deliver.  If you are a gloss girl, I would recommending picking one or two up!

Skin science: Trying out U Beauty skincare

I love trying out new skincare lines. Even better if they are of the prestige variety.

I had never heard of U Beauty until last week when they got in touch to send over their newest product, the Multimodal Defender Broad Spectrum SPF 30 moisturizer. I was instantly intrigued about the product since I like the idea of a moisturizer with sunscreen and then when I learned that you can find the line at Holt Renfrew and SSENSE, well, that definitely perked my interest.

U Beauty is a skincare line that is technology-driven, science-proven, and has high-performing products.  Their award-winning skincare products allows you to do more with less and the idea is that you can cut down on the amount of products in your routine. Now, you guys know I proudly boast an eight-step routine, but I have to say that sometimes the thought of doing it is so challenging. Sometimes I just want to cleanse my face, apply a moisturizer and then be done with it, you know? Well, I think that’s where this line comes in.

Multimodal Defender Broad Spectrum SPF 30 moisturizer

So starting with their newest product, the Multimodal Defender Broad Spectrum SPF 30 moisturizer (C$168 at Holt Renfrew) is a skincare treatment that improves skin, as well as restores discolouration.  This product also helps to brighten and illuminate skin and reduces the appearance of existing hyperpigmentation, sunspots, discolouration, and mottled complexions.

The moisturizer contains a unique formula, including the SIREN Capsule Technology, which are microscopic molecules that mimic the properties that naturally appear in healthy skin. These molecules are designed to lure free radicals to it, similar to a magnet. The SIREN technology activates on top of areas where free radicals accumulate, so this ensures that whatever is inside it releases where the skin is frail and in need of visible rejuvenation. As a result, fine lines, wrinkles, and redness is diminished, and visible puffiness, uneven tone, and texture are improved. It also helps with smoothing skin and making it brighter and better.

Now this moisturizer pairs the brand’s SIREN technology with its new SUN-SIREN, which is the new groundbreaking molecule that safely inhibits a key enzyme that is responsible for melanin synthesis while also offering photo-protective properties. It helps to prevent discolouration before it happens. The formula also includes broad-spectrum SPF protection against UVA, UVB, infrared, and blue light rays. Finally, it also contains Vitamins C and E to promote normal cell turnover and functioning, calms skin appearance, and visibly increases collagen; as well as zinc oxide to cool skin by promoting healthy skin vascularity and works as a blocker to UVA, UVB, IR, and HEV light.

U Beauty Skincare products

Another star product I was excited to try out by the line is the U Beauty Resurfacing Compound (C$295 at SSENSE). This serum visibly improves skin’s appearance in just three to six days and is said to replace up to six products in your skincare routine.

This serum helps to brighten, resurface, renew, tighten, equalize, and defend. It is a clean and high-performance formula that is designed to optimize your skincare routine and will leave you with smoother, brighter, and revitalized-looking skin, which you should notice in as little as three to six days.  It also helps with making pores look smaller, skin look brighter, and fine lines and wrinkles will visibly fade.

This compound has the brand’s SIREN capsule technology as well that lures free radicals to it like a magnet.  U Beauty says to apply this after your cleanser, followed up by your favourite moisturizer and then a sunscreen for the day (or pair it with the Multimodal Defender Broad Spectrum SPF 30).

U Beauty Resurfacing Compound and Super Hydrator

For those who are looking for more hydration, take a look at the U Beauty Super Hydrator (C$218 at Holt Renfrew), which delivers a big dose of moisture to the skin, keeping it hydrated for up to 48 hours.

This moisturizer has their HYDRA-SIREN Capsule technology, which delivers long-chain hyaluronic acid to the skin.  This technology penetrates the skin, reaching the deepest layers to hydrate all day long, while free radicals rise.  With regular use you will notice visible skin repair, as well as anti-aging results, leaving your skin glowing and more hydrated.

This moisturizer is also great paired with the Resurfacing Compound for the ultimate skincare routine.

U Beauty SCULPT Arm Compound

Now the last product is a little difference but something that i don’t really have in my routine already. The SCULPT Arm Compound (C$125 at SSENSE) is a treatment that helps to strengthen the skin’s appearance while also visibly contouring the arm area.

Apply a pump of this product to each arm, massaging it in an upwards motion.  It also has the brand’s SIREN Capsule technology to deliver the look of contoured skin.  It also has fermented soybean, probiotics, and key marine extract, which is derived via a rare oceanic sponge, to deliver oxygen and nutrient supply to skin.  It also has stabilized Vitamin C to hydrate skin, as well as probiotics and antioxidants to promote balance and the colonization of healthy bacteria.

This cream is also great for sagging for crepey skin, as it will help to smooth the appearance of skin and make it look tighter and toned.

I just received these products so I’m really excited to fully dive in and use them and see how my skin transforms.
