Smooth + supple: New products from Olay for spring 2019

When it comes to beauty products, the U.S. is typically first to receive new products.

I had heard about the Olay Clay Masks last year and loved the idea that you can apply these and not get your hands dirty. As soon as I saw them on Instagram I instantly checked my favourite Canadian retailers for them, and alas, they weren’t available in Canada… until now.

Officially launched in February 2019, the Olay Clay Stick Masks are accompanied by four other new Olay products launching this spring that promise to bring your skincare to another level.

Olay Clay Stick Mask and Brightening Eye Cream

But first, the masks. These retractable clay stick masks are available in two different formulas (SRP C$12.99) Glow Boost for radiant skin enhancement, and Pore Detox for deep pore extraction. They both feature 100 per cent pure kaolin clay and help to micro-exfoliate, absorb oil and impurities, whereas the glycerin moisturizes the skin by drawing water into it.

I have the Pore Detox one and was actually so impressed with how creamy this in. You don’t need to apply too much pressure when you apply this on your face. Just take the lid off and start sweeping it all over you skin.  This particular mask has premium kaolin clay and black charcoal to draw out impurities from pores, reducing their appearance and leaving skin soft, refined, and revived.  I used this last week after I got back from Toronto and first thing I do when I get home after travelling is unpack, shower, and throw on a mask since my skin is typically dry.  This felt so wonderful on and once it was rinsed off, my face felt fresh, smooth, and radiant (and my moisturizer and serum just soaked in!).

The other formula is Glow Boost, which has premium kaolin clay and white charcoal to remove the buildup of dead skin cells to bring healthy skin cells to the surface. It’s perfect for dull patches or an all-over glow.

Total Effects Whip Facial Cleanser

Also new from Olay is a new family member to the Whips family, the Whips Cleansers (SRP C$10.99). These join the Whips moisturizers and the new fragrance-free moisturizers.

Available in two formulas, Olay Regenerist White Facial Cleanser (formulated with Vitamin B3 and carob seed extract to deliver anti-aging results) and Total Effects Whip Facial Cleanser (formulated with a blend of vitamins and antioxidants to deliver seven signs of visibly healthy skin), these provide deep cleansing without a sticky residue, leaving your skin feeling light and refreshed.  The thing I love about this cleanser are the natural bead micro polishers, which feel so gently as they exfoliate your skin. These are also beneficial as they prep the skin to better absorb the rest of your skincare products.

Speaking of the rest of your skincare products, I’m always on the hunt for a new eye cream and when I saw that Olay released the new Olay Eyes Brightening Eye Cream with Vitamin C (C$33.99), I just had to try it.

This eye cream is designed to target discolouration and signs of fatigue in the eye area.  It contains Vitamin C, Niacinamide Vitamin B3, Pro-Vitamins B5, and a Vitamin E anti-oxidant complex. It also has optic brighteners that hydrate to smooth and illuminate skin, and the light-reflecting particles in the lightweight formula have brightening pigments to illuminate the skin, even tone, and give the appearance of a brighter eye area.

If you suffer from dark undereyes then I would look into giving this a try. In addition to brightening the eye area, it also hydrates and smooths fine lines and wrinkles over time.

Olay Mist Ultimate Hydration Essence

Finally, for the ultimate facial treat, the Olay Mist Ultimate Hydration Essence gives your skin an instant boost of hydration and an instant pick me up.

Also available in two formulas, Energizing and Calming, these mists contain skin hydrators, botanical ingredients, and fresh fragrances to instantly restore the skin and mind. These are great as a last step in your skincare routine, a mid-day pick me up, or really whenever you want a little boost in your mood.

The Energizing Mist contains Vitamin C and bergamot extract to leave skin feeling revitalized, refreshed, and energized, whereas the Calming Mist has aloe leaf and chamomile to calm dry, tight skin. The mists proved an immediate 60 per cent boost in hydration, as well as strengthen the skin’s barrier over time.  I love a good mist to finish up my skincare routine and I’ve quickly started to incorporate the Energizing Mist into my skincare routine.

I absolutely love what Olay has released for spring and although I have a million skincare products already, I always love trying out what they come out with every season. Olay is one of my favourite skincare brands and although it’s drugstore, I find the price points to be amazing considering how much power they pack into their products. Out of everything, I highly recommend picking up a mask, a spray, and the cleanser for a truly wonderful skincare routine.

Do you use Olay products in your skincare routine?

Blot + blur: Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Setting Powder & Precision Makeup Sponge

Two things I love when it comes to makeup? A great makeup sponge and Fenty Beauty.

Okay, so obviously there are more things I love when it comes to the world of beauty, but when I saw that Fenty Beauty released a setting powder, as well as a sponge, I just had to get my hands on them.

If you love their Pro Filt’r foundation and concealer, then you need the Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Setting Powder (C$40) to round out your collection.  This powder, available in eight shades, is a superfine, lightweight, and loose setting powder that helps to set your makeup and extend its wear for a photo-ready look.  This powder, which works the same way similar ones do, is housed in a beautiful jar with the Fenty Beauty logo which enables you to access the powder. It also comes with a plastic cover so the stuff doesn’t get everywhere (we’ve all been there).

I received the shade Banana, which is for light to tan skin tones, perfect for brightening. Apply this powder over top of your concealer and underneath your contour for a sculpted look. The product helps to reduce shine and blur the look of pores, fine lines, and any imperfections in your skin. It sets really nice and doesn’t look cakey at all, which is a major plus when it comes to setting powders.

Fenty Beauty has a dedicated brush to apply this with, the Powder Puff Setting Brush (C$42), however, I recommend using the Precision Makeup Sponge 100 instead to pat the powder into your skin. This sponge works the same way as other similar ones out there, in that you have to wet it first to bounce the product into your skin. What makes it unique is the shape, as it features three sides, a slanted edge for controlled stippling, the mini-moon edge for targeted coverage, and the rounded edge for all-over buffing. It is also designed without latex, allowing you to apply and blend all formulas.

I really love this sponge as it is very bouncy when wet (this is an actual thing, I’ve tried so many sponges that feel stiff even when they are damp), and the shape really helps to customize your makeup process. I use these sponges for everything — foundation, concealer, and powder, so it’s truly a triple whammy.  It’s also only C$20, which is six dollar cheaper than the original Beauty Blender (truth be told though, I do like the Fenty sponge more because of the shape).

Even if you don’t have any of the Fenty Beauty face products, I do recommend picking up this sponge as it does a wonderful job of blending your makeup.

So two rave reviews on some new Fenty Beauty products, would you expect anything different from me?  This line constantly impresses me with every product they put out and because of that I get so excited when I see there is something new in the line. I mean, I basically know I’m going to love it even before I try it out.

Have you tried Fenty Beauty’s face products?

Please note, I received this product from PR. All opinions are my own.

Who runs the world… Celebrating International Women’s Day with Mary Kay Cosmetics Ltd.

It’s so hard to believe that a little over 100 years ago women didn’t have the right to vote in Canada.

Fun fact: Did you know that Manitoba was the first province to allow women to vote provincially? That was in 1916, and soon after, females got that right in other provinces as well (and then federally in 1918). It’s so strange to think that our gender was held back from so many things centuries ago. Fast-forward to 2019 and females are taking over the world, becoming notable figures in politics, business, and entertainment. It is so crazy to consider that we weren’t given any of these opportunities 100 years ago (and even sadder to think that females still aren’t given certain rights in some countries).

Mary Kay Chromafusion eyeshadow palette

In honour of International Women’s Day, which is celebrated every year on March 8 (today!), I wanted to highlight one total boss babe who created a company that is still rocking today.

It may be common now to see a female head up a company, but that was something rare in the 1960s. You guys may be familiar with Mary Kay as they’ve been around forever and I love talking about them (read my latest post on their At Play® pencils here), but the founder, Mary Kay Ash was totally ahead of her time when she started Mary Kay Cosmetics over 50 years ago.

After experiencing inequality in the workplace, Ash launched her business in 1963 and disrupted the idea of “business as usual”, turning the male-dominated workplace upside down. The cosmetic pioneer dedicated her life to empowering women and putting them in control of their own futures, and her company is now operating in over 35 countries worldwide.

Mary Kay Cosmetics Spring 2019 magnetic compact

The thing I love most about Mary Kay Cosmetics isn’t the makeup (it is fabulous by the way!), but how they really help independent beauty consultants exceed and support their lifestyles. There are over 3.5 million Mary Kay independent beauty consultants in nearly 40 markets around the world, the majority of which are women. The company is designed to work with a woman’s current lifestyle, and many of the beauty consultants sell products on a part-time basis to supplement their incomes. It could be money for their next dream vacation, saving for their child’s college tuition, or even spare shopping money. Independent beauty consultants can earn up to 50 per cent* on everything they sell and it’s one of the highest-income earning percentages in the direct-selling industry. The company also offers perks to top-earning independent beauty consultants, such as trips, cars (that iconic pink Cadillac), and gadgets and jewelry.

Although I’m not a seller for Mary Kay, I do appreciate the total girl power that the company relays in their business model and how the business was started – and named after – a female. They also do a number of charitable efforts every year aimed at giving back to women and children. The brand’s largest global cause marketing initiative is its Pink Changing Lives℠  campaign, of which they have donated millions of dollars from the worldwide sale of Pink Changing Lives℠ products to help change the lives of women and children around the world. Locally here in Canada, Mary Kay Cosmetics Ltd. supports the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation to help women living with cancer through the Look Good Feel Better® program, which gives women cosmetics and teaches them how to use them. They also provide grants to women’s shelters and community outreach programs to help end violence against women.

As for the makeup itself, I have so many Mary Kay® products in my collection, but some of my favourite items are the Chromafusion™ eyeshadows, the lipsticks, the TimeWise Repair® Lifting Bio-Cellulose Mask, and the Makeup Finishing Spray by Skindinavia. With that being said, pretty much everything I have tried from the brand has been phenomenal and they offer the products at such an affordable price point. Some of the brand’s bestselling products include their Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover, the Ultimate Mascara™, and the Clear Proof® Deep-Cleansing Charcoal Mask (I have this too and love it!).

Mary Kay mascara and Lip Tint

The first International Women’s Day was held in 1911 and was supported by over one-million people. The purpose of this day is to recognize females worldwide and typically there is a theme every year. For 2019, it is to help forge a more gender-balanced world and I truly believe that by supporting and recognizing female-founded businesses that helps to balance the boardroom, the government, media coverage, and more. When you purchase Mary Kay cosmetics, you’re doing so much more than getting new makeup. You’re supporting women, mothers, girlfriends, daughters, friends… You’re supporting a company that was created by a female for females. And that, my friends, is girl power.

How are you celebrating International Women’s Day?

Also, keep an eye out on my Instagram later today for a Mary Kay giveaway which includes items from the spring 2019 collection!
