Feeling fabulous: Bourjois Paris Rouge Fabuleux lipsticks

I love trying out new lipsticks.

When it comes to lipsticks there are so many different colours, textures, and formulas that every lipstick I get the honour of trying is usually quite different from anything else there is out there.

I recently got a PR box with included the whole line of the Bourjois Rouge Fabuleux lipsticks in them. This was actually my first time getting anything from Bourjois, which is a Parisian brand sold at Shoppers Drug Mart here in Canada. They have a number of different lipstick lines, but the Rouge Fabuleux are one of the newest launches to hit the line.

Available in 16 shades, the Rouge Fabuleux line (C$18 each) is a creamy lipstick line that feels lightweight on the lips and delivers intense, long-lasting colour.  The shade range in here is very diverse, offering up all your favourite colours, from nudes to pinks to reds, oranges, and even purples!

It was really fun swatching these since they really do just glide on the lips and are very comfortable to wear.  The formula is very moisturizing and does dry down a little bit so you don’t have to be worried about it moving around on you as you wear it. I really love the shade range in here since all the colours are wearable (I do love a good blue and black, but hey, how often are you really going to wear that?). There is a number of nudes in here, so if you are a nudey girl like me, then you’ll love this collection.

You guys know I love a good matte lipstick, but it’s nice to switch it up a bit and these definitely are a nice treat on my lips since they are very lightweight and moisturizing.

Soothed skin: The serums you need this summer

The number one thing I got when I was away? Skincare!

It seems like new skincare releases come out pretty much every week or so, and since I’m so Type A when it comes to treating my skin and keeping it in tip-top shape, I’m all for it.

I’ve gotten a ton of new stuff lately, everything from cleansers to toners, eye creams, and serums!  Since I love a good serum and definitely feel like it should be a mainstay in everyone’s skincare routine, I rounded up some of the new ones I have received and why you should be incorporating them into your summer skincare.

L’Occitane Immortelle Overnight Reset Oil-in-Serum

This is a relatively new serum as of last September and the L’Occitane Immortelle Overnight Reset Oil-in-Serum (C$78) has quickly become a best seller on their site.

This night-time serum promises to reset your skin overnight, leaving you with fresher and more radiant skin by the morning.  The formula is a oil-in-serum with a trio of botanical ingredients including Marjojam extract, Amelia Oleracea extract, and Immortelle Essential oil.

The first thing you’ll notice about this serum is the little golden bubbles inside the jar which just float in the serum. These are the Immortelle Essential oils, which deliver an anti-aging complex to fight visible signs of aging, leaving skin with a more youthful, radiant complex.

I’m still relatively new to using this serum, but did find a difference in my skin after using it the first time. I did a whole skincare switch up when I got back and used this. The next morning I work up with way more radiant skin that looks luminous and revitalized.

Avon Hydra Fusion 1.5% Hyaluronic Acid Serum

Avon Hydra Fusion 1.5% Hyaluronic Acid Serum

I recently finished my Drunk Elephant C-Firma serum so Avon’s newest serum came just in time.

The Hydra Fusion 1.5% Hyaluronic Acid Serum contains 1.5% pure hyaluronic acid, which is a high percentage of the stuff to help hold 1,000 times its weight in water for a crazy amount of hydration.

Apply a pump of this stuff morning and night (I use it in the morning) for plumped skin with moisture and bounce.  If you aren’t familiar with what hyaluronic acid is, we all have it in our skin, however, when we age we start to lose some of it, so serums like this help to add it back into our skin, leaving you with a youthful appearance (as we lose hyaluronic acid we show more signs of aging).

I find one pump of this serum goes a long way and it just soaks into your skin. I typically apply my serums before my moisturizer so it’s a nice treat on the skin first thing in the morning. Right now Avon has this on promo for C$29.99, but will be regular C$46, plus you’ll get a free micellar water with every purchase. Contact your local Avon rep and get on this!

Pixi Beauty Vitamin C Serum

Who doesn’t need a little more Vitamin C in their life?

Pixi Beauty actually sent me the whole Vitamin C line, which includes seven products, but I was most excited for the serum!

This serum (C$34), which you apply via a dropper, includes Vitamin C and ferulic acid to reduce the effects of sun damage and free radicals.  As a result, your skin tone will improve over time and you’ll be left with a smoother complexion.  You’ll also find that it may help with imperfections on the skin and just leave you looking more radiant and glowy.

For maximum results, definitely pair it with some of their other Vitamin C products, but incorporating just the serum into your regular routine will do the trick as well.

Serums by Avon, L/Occitane, Pixi Beauty, and Vichy

Vichy Mineral 89 Eyes

Vichy is known for their legendary Mineral 89 serum, so it makes total sense that the brand would come out with a similar formula but for the eye region.

The Mineral 89 Eyes (C$34.95) is a gel formula eye serum that contains 89 per cent Vichy Mineralizing Thermal Water with natural origin hyaluronic acid and pure caffeine to help strengthen the skin’s barrier function. It helps plump up the eye area and smooth out fine lines with 24-hour hydration, while also brightening and decreasing the look of dark circles.

The formula also helps to strengthen the eye contour area and protect it against daily aggressors like stress, fatigue, weather changes, and pollution, which often leads to dull skin and skin damage. Use it daily, day and night for maximum results and a glowing eye area.

There are so many different serums out there that it can be a little challenging to figure out which one may be right for you. Although I haven’t been using these for very long, I have found my skin to look more radiant with each passing day that I’ve incorporated them into my routine.

What are some of your favourite serums?

Scrubbed + Sunkissed: Rodan + Fields Micro-Dermabrasion Paste and Foaming Sunless Tan

We all know how I feel about self tanner.

Seriously though, without this magical liquid I would be pale as a ghost all 365 days of the year.  Typically when it comes to self tanners I have the tendency to hoard them and overall I’m not really picky on formula or brand.  I do prefer a darker one that will give me a golden bronze in one shot, but since I go through them so fast, I’ll typically take anything I can get my hands on. As long as it looks like I got some sun, I’m happy with it.

Rodan + Fields sent over a couple of their products last month for Canada Day to give me a start of summer glow.  I didn’t actually open the box until I got back from NYC but when I saw the words “sunless tan” I pretty much ripped it open and put it to the test.

Rodan + Fields Micro-Dermabrasion Paste and Foaming Sunless Tan

The Essentials Foaming Sunless Tan (C$32) is a quick-drying foaming self tanner that is designed to give you a gradual natural-looking tan.  It comes in a pump container to dispense a white foam that dries down clear and pretty much scentless (a major plus). Best of all, it doesn’t feel sticky on the skin and is very lightweight. Just give it about five minutes to fully absorb and then you’re good to go.

I actually didn’t even know that R+F had a self tanner, so when I got this product I was very excited to use it.  I did apply it with a glove but the brand mentions just using your hands.  The formula also contains some awesome ingredients in it, such as Vitamin C and E to help defend against free radicals and it has the RF-Dcell technology with Narcissus Tazetta Bulb Extract that helps the tan last longer on the skin.

To prep my skin for the tanner, they also sent along their Micro-Dermabrasion Paste (C$96), which is a face and body scrub.  It’s always recommended to use a scrub on your body before apply self tanner to prep your skin and remove any dead skin cells. I’ll be honest, I don’t do this most times, but when I do, I really do notice a difference in terms of how even and natural my tan looks.

Rodan + Fields Micro-Dermabrasion Paste and Foaming Sunless Tan

The Micro-Dermabrasion Paste improves the appearance of uneven skin tone thanks to its oil-free exfoliating formula. It’s made up of sugar and salt that exfoliates your body.  It also contains Vitamin C to brighten skin and Vitamin E to soothe skin.  The texture is like a balm, so you really have to dig your hands in there, but once it’s out it just melts onto the skin and really does a great job of leaving you nice and smooth.

Rodan and Fields recommends actually applying this dry, rubbing in for 30 to 60 seconds and then rinsing off. I used this in the shower and did find it melted quickly, but it was still pretty efficient. I think that if I had rough patches that I really wanted to exfoliate I would use it dry, but using it in the shower damp did the trick as well.

Overall, I was left with a nice healthy-looking glow the next day after using these products. This is definitely more of a gradual tanner, so I did have to apply it a few days in a row to really see a noticeable colour.  The tanner goes on clear, so it makes it a little tough to notice where you are applying it, but since it’s lighter in colour, there were no noticeable streaks on the skin. I also want to mention that it doesn’t smell at all, which is awesome. I didn’t even shower the next day after applying it, which is rare since usually I need a shower to wash away that awful self tanning smell.  Just wake up with this stuff on and you’ll be good to go.

Although I definitely prefer a more deeper tan on the first go-round, I actually didn’t mind this one. I like the formula and thought it did a great job of giving me a hint of colour. I’ll for sure be rotating this one into my routine more often (and maybe even cocktail it with a few other self tanners I have to maintain those glows).

Have you tried Rodan + Field’s self tanning product?
