Seven items for holiday party hair

Title

I think I love the holiday season so much because a) it’s acceptable to wear glitter all the time, and b) I can dress up.  If there is one thing I love to do, it’s doing my hair and makeup. I don’t really care where I’m going, the getting-ready part is always the mane event.

As much as I love going for professional blow outs, I tend to wash my hair a lot since I teach fitness classes, so it’s really not feasible for me to get them done often (especially since they cost upwards of $30).  Since I have a vast collection of hair products, instead, I find a lot of pleasure in giving myself an at-home blowout.  Not only do I find it relaxing, but I love the way it makes my hair look and feel, plus I get more pride in seeing the final result and knowing I did it myself.

Final 1

The perfect blow out should have volume, look sleek, feel soft, and add curls or waves to the hair. You can always choose to straighten it, but since I love my hair big, I always opt for the curl. To achieve this hair look, this was actually almost a 24-hour affair, as I started the process the night before.

Oroflouido

The night before, I applied the Orofluido Original Elixir to my dry hair and then wrapped my locks in a microfibre turban while I slept. Because I recently dyed my hair from brunette at the roots to blonde highlights, I definitely needed a treatment to restore my hair’s lustre.  Enter the Orofluido Original Elixir, which penetrates into the hair fibre overnight. In the morning, you can either leave it in (although you may look a little greasy) or gently wash your hair with the Orofluido Shampoo.

I did receive these products in a set, and I’ve been waiting for a good time to use them since it’s quite the process (you’re supposed to leave the product in your hair overnight and then rinse in the morning). This elixir contains three oils to penetrate the hair: argan oil, which strengthens the hair, making it light and silky; cyperus oil, which provides softness and volume; and linseed oil, which seals and smooths the hair cuticle to provide uniformity and control.

Drybar

After shampooing, I used Drybar’s Mudslide Nourishing Hair Mask, which strengthens hair and leaves it silky smooth. Leave Mudslide in your hair anywhere from five to 10 minutes to penetrate the hair shaft and make it strong, soft, shiny, and hydrated.

Once out of the shower, I applied a few products to my towel-dried hair, including the Aveda products gifted to me last week when I got my hair coloured. Using a round brush, I blowdried each section at a time and then put the hair into rollers so the volume will set. Once all the rollers are in your hair, blast it on medium volume, making sure to get each of the rollers so the curl will set, and then spray with hairspray lightly.

Make sure you leave the rollers in for at least half an hour, the longer the better!  You can either leave your hair as is once the rollers are out, or you can take it a step farther and curl your hair.

Kiss Instawave

For a light wave, I used the Kiss InstaWave Automatic Curler. This fully automatic tangle-free curler lets you curls from any position, regardless of which hand you’re using. This curler works by pressing the button to switch between left and right curl directions.  I grab a section of hair and then place the hair mid-shaft in the clip then press the button to rotate the barrel. As the barrel is rotating, it grabs the hair winding it up. This curler has ceramic ionic technology to protect the hair. Although it’s a bit weird and awkward to use right off the hop, this device really does leave your hair with a nice loose curl, giving you that “I just got a blowout” kind of look.

Final hair

To finish up the hair, lightly spray it with hairspray (I love Aveda Air Control hairspray) and then for some shine, spray Drybar Sparkling Soda Shine Mist, which instantly creates a lightweight high-gloss finish, calms flyaways and static, and contains UV absorbers to prevent colour fading.  For some volume, I used Drybar Triple Sec Hair Volumizer, Texturizer, and Refresher, which provides movement and adds soft, matte texture, livens up flat hair with volume, and functions as a light dry shampoo, which absorbs oil.

And that’s it!  Match your hair with a sexy smoky eye or a red lip, wear your sparkliest dress and keep warm as you embrace all those festive holiday parties.. with fabulous hair of course!

What’s your holiday party hair staple?
