Blushing over brushes: Sephora fall brush sets

SEPHORA TITLE

Let’s talk brushes for a second here.

No matter how much makeup you have, or how the quality is, I cannot stress having the right tools to apply it. It’s kinda like having all these paint cans but with no brushes to apply it with. If there’s one thing you need to invest in when it comes to your makeup collection, it’s some brushes.

My brush collection is pretty large by now, all because the days of buying single brushes are over.  Why pay an incredibly large sum of money on one single tool (although depending on the brush, this still may be a necessity).  There’s tons of places you can go that offer great brush sets for reasonable prices.  Obviously one of these places is Sephora.

Although they have already launched their holiday brushes (where has the time gone?), they still have some incredible ones available as part of their fall collection.

Gold brushes

Face brushes can be some of the most expensive ones there, luckily Sephora released their Sephora Collection Flexion Perfection Brush Set (C$56), which includes four specialized shapes and a tutorial for how to use each brush.

Included in the set:

  • Ridged Foundation Brush, which creates smooth and even base coverage around imperfections
  • Pointed foundation brush, which works around the contours of the face, chin and nose
  • Blemish Concealer brush, which covers and conceals imperfections without disturbing foundation
  • Concealer brush, which can be used around the nose and eye area.

All the brushes come housed in a gold envelope case, making them perfect for travel.

Rose brushes

If you are looking for a more basic set, then try the Sephora Collection Gold Edge Brush Set (C$65), which includes four soft, full-size eye and face brushes that were curated to create any makeup look. These come housed in a limited-edition pebbled vegan-leather pouch with chic gold edge details.

Between the two sets, I would definitely go with the Gold Edge Brush Set, because I feel like you would get more wear out of those brushes, as opposed as the Complexion Perfection set.  I always feel like Sephora creates some weird looking brushes sometimes, and although this set includes all face brushes, the only one I would get regular wear from would be the concealer one. The Gold Edge set has one less brush, but trust me, you’ll all of those everyday. That set would have been absolutely perfect if they included a crease brush. Maybe next season…

If you love the look of the Gold Edge set, then they also offer some matching bags for your makeup. I have the Still Life Escaper Bag, which is great to load up on travel-sized stuff for when you’re jetting off.  They also offer larger bags, a train case and compact mirrors as well.

Finally, since you got all these new brushes, you’re going to want to wash them to keep them in good shape. Try Sephora’s Perfect Condition Brush Conditioner ($18).  This formula gently conditions brushes to restore life into your brushes and makes them look new again.  Work a small amount into the brush, rinse throughly and a gently squeeze out excess water.  I’ve actually never used a brush conditioner before, I always use either shampoo or Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap, so it’s nice to use something that’s actually formulated for washing makeup brushes.

With Halloween and the holidays coming up, you’ll need to be on point with your brush game.
