Glam grunge: a ’90’s-inspired look
As much as I hate to admit it, summer is almost over.
Although I love the warmer months, my favourite season has always been fall. There’s something to say about the chilly air, the crunchy leaves, and lots of layers. Also, two words: pumpkin spice. So although I’ll be sad to see summer go, I am looking forward to things cooling off around here.
Although I love rocking a nude or pink lip, I have been obsessed with this mauve/Kylie Jenner-inspired lip shade, which is a Lime Crime Velveteen in the colour Faded. Although the brand has been under a lot of scrutiny these past few years, I was happy to get my hands on some products and try them out for myself, since I often see them all over YouTube. Regardless of the controversy, the products are amazing. I received this one, as well as Cashmere, and I love the consistency on them. They go on liquid and then dry to a matte which doesn’t budge and lasts all day. Although this shade has never been me, I’ve actually recreated this look a few times since I love it so much. There’s something to say about a neutral eye, fresh skin, and a ’90s lip.
1. Starting with the face, I decided to change up my foundation routine and apply Dr.Hauschka Foundation in 01, which is quite sheer. Before applying powder to give me more coverage, I went in with Maybelline Better Skin Concealer then went over top with Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Powerless powder foundation in Classic Ivory. After, I filled in my brows using the Brow Bar To Go palette by Gerard Cosmetics.
2. For the eyes, I placed a cream eyeshadow down to act as a primer. I used Lise Watier 24 Hrs Glam in Sexy Glam.
3. For the eyeshadow, I used the Urban Decay Naked Palette to keep things neutral. Starting on the lids, place down Sin.
4. For the crease, I used a fluffy crease brush to keep things light and worked Buck into my crease.
5. Combining Buck and Darkhorse, using a pencil brush, apply this lightly under along the lower lash line. For both the brow bone and inner corner highlight, I used Virgin.
6. Curl your lashes and apply generous coats of mascara. I used Make Up For Ever Smoky Stretch mascara.
7. To finish up the face, I contoured with the Hard Candy So Baked Bronzer, kept the cheeks neutral with NARS blush in Madly, and gave myself a nice highlight with the highlight from the Make Up For Ever Pro Sculpting Duo in 01.
8. For the lips, I applied Lime Crime Velveteen in Faded for a grungy-pink look.
Although this lip colour is totally not “me”, I definitely see myself rocking this look lots in the future, especially on nights out (to wear a shade other than pink or nude on a Friday or Saturday night is just unheard of…). It’s hard to find a mauve that is flattering enough that I can see myself wearing more than once, and this product is definitely it. Plus, these guys totally smell like cupcakes, and what’s not to love about that?
