#SeeItAll: Folklorama Punjab pavilion + a colourful look
Well folks, tomorrow marks the last day of Folklorama. I’ve had a blast travelling around Winnipeg and taking in so many different cultures.
For my last look, the Punjab pavilion was a no brainer. Inspired by the colourful punjab dresses, I had so much fun creating this bright makeup look. The pavilion was held at the Punjab Cultural Centre (1770 King Edward Street), which also housed a favourite pavilion of mine, the UK one, the week before. We dined on Indian food, such as butter chicken, rice, naan bread, and sipped on this delicious mango smoothie, which I pretty much gulped down in one sip.
The makeup was pretty minimal on the dancers, however, I went with a more punjab bridal look, which goes heavy on the black liner, and lots of colour. Pinks, greens, and blues are perfect for this bright recreation, but I chose to stick with pinks and purples since those shades typically make my eyes pop. If you have brown eyes, try going with blues and greens.
1. Fill in your brows (I went a little thicker than I usually go), and then with a pink cream eyeshadow, apply this as your base. I used CoverGirl Flamed Out Shadow Pencil in Sapphire Flame.
2. With Morocco from the Anastasia Beverly Hills World Traveller palette and a fluffy crease brush, lightly work this into the crease, acting as a transition colour.
3. With Pink Champagne from the same palette, apply this to your lids.
4. With a matte purple (I used a shade from the Kat Von D Star Studded palette, which unfortunately was limited edition for the holiday 2014 season, but any similar shade will do), apply this along your crease using a pencil brush. After, blend it out.
5. With a vibrant rose pink, like this pressed pigment from Lancome, apply this to the centre of the lid area to really bring out the pink.
6. Line your upper lash line, really winging it out and then apply a couple coats of mascara. I used a liquid liner (Make Up For Ever Ink Liner) to make it bold. After, with a black shadow, lightly apply this in the crease, to darken it up a bit.
7. Line your lower lash line with that same pink pigment or shadow and then apply a couple coats of mascara to your bottom lashes.
For the lips, I applied YSL Rouge Volupte in #8 to give me that perfect pink to complement the eyes.
I have to say that I had so much fun going to all the shows these past two weeks and learning and taking in so many cultures. I have a lot of respect for all those performers, who, even though we see for one show, they perform three times a night for seven days. It’s actually super impressive to think about, considering that I haven’t seen one performer who looked tired.
I hope you’ve enjoyed all these cultural Folklorama posts. If you attended Folklorama this year, let me know which pavilions were your faves.
