Diving in: my favourite waterproof makeup
Going to a beach or pool party? If you are like me and don’t like going bare faced then you’ll have to find some awesome waterproof products. I don’t typically go for waterproof as sometimes the stuff is super hard to remove (but then again, if it wasn’t it wouldn’t be waterproof), so I don’t have an abundance of products that I regularly use in the water, but I do have a few faves.
Hands down my picks would be Laura Mercier’s Caviar Stick in Turquoise (obsessed with this) as it’s such a pretty colour for summer anyways, you can easily transition this from the concrete to the pool. Plus, this product is so versatile, it can double as a liner, an eyeshadow, or a base. Along the same line as eyeliner, if I need something that will stick I will turn to Sephora’s Eyeliner Creme Smoky in Must Have (black), which is a gel liner. For eyeshadows, Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Creams really do stay put once applied and Maybelline’s Color Tattoos, although not advertised as waterproof, I find they will stay on the lids pretty good once in the water (since they are cream based).
Just to “test the waters out”, I applied the Maybelline, Laura Mercier, and MUFE products to see how they stood up to water. All three stayed put on my hand, however, after smudging the products, the only one that created any sort of mess was Laura Mercier’s Caviar Stick. Funny enough though, that was the hardest product to get off. The Maybelline Color Tattoo came off after a few go-rounds of soap and water, but with both the Laura Mercier and MUFE products I had to use an oil-based makeup remover to get those off.
As for a waterproof mascara, I actually don’t own one as I find that I would just use it when I go swimming which honestly isn’t as much as I would like. Because you are only supposed to keep mascara for it’s three-month shelf life (which I always extend anyways), I don’t think it would be worth the money to invest in one. If you know a really good drug store one though, please let me know.
