Sweet & soft: a look featuring Yves Rocher

YR title

I am always down for trying new products, so when Yves Rocher contacted me to try out some of the fall releases, I was game.

Whenever I hear of the brand, the first thing that comes to mind are the chocolates Ferraro Rocher (yeah, I’m weird like that).  Yves Rocher (the makeup brand), hails from France and has 1,500 stores worldwide.  You can also order their products online through yvesrocher.ca. Their products are made in Europe (major plus in my books) and a lot of their ingredients are derived from plants, so they are effective and safe for the environment.

products

I got to try out two of their single eyeshadows, Nude Rose (21) and Brun Cendre Mat (103), their three-in-one eye pencil in brown, the Volume Vertige Lash Curler Effect mascara (which is ah-mazing), and the Sexy Pulp Volume Gloss in Clear Coral.

The look I created uses all of these products, but there are numerous dupes for each and every one.

steps

1. Apply foundation and concealer and then, starting with the eyes, apply a pinky-nude cream shadow as a base.  I used Benefit Cosmetics Creaseless Cream Shadow in RSVP.

2. With a shimmery champagne pink eyeshadow, like Yves Rocher’s Single Eyeshadow Intense Colour in Nude Rose (MAC’s Naked Lunch is a great dupe), apply this all over the lid area.

3. With a mauve colour, like Yves Rocher’s Brun Cendre Mat, which is matte eyeshadow, apply this in your crease.

4. Because this look is soft, I used a brown eyeliner, like Yves Rocher’s three-in-one eye pencil in brown.  Line your upper lash line, slightly winging it out.  Also, line your lower lash line with this, and with your finger, gently smudge it.

5. Curl your lashes and apply lengthening mascara.  I used Yves Rocher’s Volume Vertige mascara, which is actually amazing (look at my lashes).  Expect a full review of this mascara soon because it’s bomb.com.

6. To finish up the look, contour your cheeks with a bronzer (I used Covergirl Clean bronzer in Spices) and add a blush to your cheeks (I used Benefit Rockateur).  Finally, apply a gloss to your lips.  I used Yves Rocher Sexy Pulp lipgloss, which is a plumping gloss, creating a bee-stung look.

finished

The final look is subtle, but very sweet.

For those of you interested, if you visit Yves Rocher’s Canadian Facebook page, you can enter to win $250 worth of products.  I have seriously been loving their mascara and gloss.

Let me know if you have tried Yves Rocher products.  This was my first foray into the brand and I have a feeling that it won’t be my last.

Please note, I was sent these products by PR.  All opinions are my honest own.

Get whipped! Covergirl Clean Whipped Creme Foundation

covergirl title

I am a foundation freak.  If I had to narrow down my collection to just three types of products, I would pick foundation, mascara, and lipstick, hands down.

I’ve tried liquid, powder, and loose powder foundation, but never whipped ones.  They have always intrigued me but I’ve never bitten the bullet and bought one to try out.  Covergirl released their Clean Whipped Creme Foundation a couple of months ago and although I have always gravitated towards it at Wal-Mart, I’ve never bought it (I have foundations up the ying yang to get through).  Luckily, I was given one last week at the P&G Beauty United launch event in Toronto.

From Covergirl:

Our lightweight whipped crème foundation gives your skin a boost of moisture without the greasy, shiny finish. You’ll love the dreamy, 100 per cent breathable formula that leaves your skin looking smooth, natural, and matte. Available in 10 shades to match your skin tone. foundation open foundation

I received the colour 320 Creamy Natural, which is perfect for my summer skin.  When you open the jar the texture is very light and airy (like Cool Whip.. mmm Cool Whip….), and I typically just dab my finger in it and dot it all over my face.  From there I grab my ELF Flat Top Powder brush and buff it into my skin.  It leaves your skin with a matte finish, so no need to set it with a powder.

The product definitely feels different from a liquid foundation; it’s very light on the skin. Surprisingly it does leave me with pretty good coverage and typically lasts me for several hours.

Before – no makeup.

after

After – wearing Covergirl Clean Whipped Creme foundation in 320.

full makeup

Makeup fully done, including the Covergirl Clean Glow Bronzer in 120 Spices (love this bronzer).

Overall, I’m really impressed with this foundation.  I absolutely love the texture and the way it makes my skin look and feel.  Also, you don’t need a lot of the product to get a full coverage, which is good considering how small the container is (18 ml).  This foundation also comes in a pretty large shade range, there are 10 different shades to choose from, so it’s easy for most people to find something that matches.

Have you tried Covergirl’s Clean Whipped Creme Foundation?

Disclosure: I am a #BeautyUnited blogger. As part of my affiliation with this group I receive products and special access to P&G events. The opinions on this blog are my own.

Brush it off: Make Up For Ever releases new Artisan Brush Collection

title

A set of essential tools in anyone’s makeup collection is a must have, so when Make Up For Ever announced that they were releasing 76 brushes as part of their Artisan Brush Collection, I was salivating at the thought of these wonders.

The set ranges from everyday must haves to customized tools that the everyday ‘gal doesn’t need, but really wants.  What really sets this collection apart is the quality that went into every brush. Each and every tool went through a five-year process that involved testing a variety of synthetic fibers that mimic the silky softness of natural hair.  Each brush involved 25 unique stages and was hand-crafted by a total of 30 people from start to finish.  My favourite part is the beech wood brush handles that were created with a beveled end to allow for easier product retrieval and can even used used in false lashes application (amazing, I know).

I got to try out the 154 brush (Buffer Blush Brush), which is an extra-dense round brush with a flat top.  Make Up For Ever recommends using this brush for loose and compact powders, however, I think it’s fab for applying powder bronzer for contouring.  Because of it’s small, compacted shape, this brush allows me to get right into the hollows of my cheekbones, for a perfectly sculpted look.  I also have used it with cream products on my cheeks for a natural-looking flush (it blends like a dream).

These brushes will be available at Sephora and Make Up For Ever boutiques.  Because of the amount of craftsmanship that goes into each and every one, expect them to be pricey.

Here’s my wishlist of the brushes I would love to get my hands on.

Are you going to pick up any brushes from Make Up For Ever’s new Artisan Brush Collection?
