Spring is {soon} in session: New for spring from Sephora

Title

With the burst of nice weather we’ve been having (unfortunately it won’t be lasting for long, it’s going to get cold here again later this week), I’ve been having some major spring vibes. Because of that, it was very fitting that a box from Sephora came last week with some new spring goodies.

I always look forward to the Sephora-brand collections since they are always so on trend. I  end up wanting everything that they come out with, even if I don’t need it (let’s be real though, do any of us really need anything from Sephora? :P).

Polishes and bag

Sephora always comes out with the cutest patterns for their bags and brushes. This season tribal print is making a comeback in a bright coral and purple.  Although there are tons of different case options and brush sets in the Lipstick Jungle line, I love The Jetsetter pouch because it doubles as a makeup/jewelry pouch or clutch.  I actually couldn’t find this online at Sephora (check in store), but they also have a five-piece brush set which features a pouch incredibly similar to this one.

To go with the pouch, I love the Lipstick Jungle Compact Mirror (C$15), which is a double-sided compact mirror with one side normal and the other two-times magnified.

TGIF Swatch Breathtaking

Since nail polish is always on trend, Formula X just came out with a five-in-one nail treatment that is formulated to brighten, strengthen, correct, protect, and smooth. Since I have thin, brittle nails that tend to peel easily, I love using this as a base coat, especially underneath Formula X TGIF (a hot coral that totally goes with your new pouch from Sephora) or Breathtaking, a pearl sandy beige.

brushes and gems

I absolutely love Sephora’s brush collections, and since I travel so often, their travel-sized sets come in handy.  I’m Not Perfect, But My Eyeliner Is Brush Canister (love this name!) comes in four different colours (black, red, purple, and green), and contains five brushes housed in a sturdy convenient travel-friendly container. Included is a cream shadow brush, a small shadow brush, an angled shadow brush, an angled shadow brush, an angled liner brush, and a smudge brush.

This brush set (C$28) contains all the brushes you need to create any eye look. The brushes are housed in a very sturdy travel-friendly container that can be thrown into any pocket or bag.

Brushes

So remember how last year flash tattoos were all the rage? Well it looks like this year is all about the body jewels. These guys aren’t online yet on Sephora’s site, but the Sephora Collection Bejeweled Body Jewel Tattoos come with nine clear, smoke and black jewel tattoos. I’ll be saving these for the summer time for a night out, a day at the pool, or a music festival.

Since tomorrow officially marks the first day of March, which means 20 days until it’s officially spring, I’ll be getting the party started early with all these {bright} gems.

Please note, products sent by PR. All opinions are my own.

The transformer: Smashbox Insta-Matte Lipstick Transformer

Title

It’s no secret that the hottest lip trend happening right now is the matte lip.  Everyone is coming out with their own line. But it you’re like me and already have a big collection of lip products, the last thing you want is to pick up a billion matte lipsticks in colours you already own.

Well, Smashbox has come up with a solution to this very colourful dilemma.

Officially launched last month, the Insta-Matte Lipstick Transformer doubles your lipstick collection by transforming any colour into it’s matte counterpart. Contained in a squeeze tube, the gel product is meant to be layered over any lipstick to instantly mattify the colour.

Product Tip

I have a similar product from Cargo Cosmetics that works the same way as this guy, although that one is in a stick formula.  Because this is a squeeze tube, it’s much cleaner to apply the formula in terms of keeping the product clean (certainly not your fingers though).  You just have to be careful not to smudge the colour.

I ended up layering this over one of the new Smashbox Be Legendary Lipsticks in LA Sunset, a rich cream formula, and found that it did matte the colour, although it doesn’t give you that usual tight feeling that is associated with matte lipsticks, which is nice if you like more comfort on the lip area (which I do).  Because of this though, I did find that the colour ended up fading after a few hours (and with eating and drinking).  What was left was a pretty stained look.

before and after

I really do like the idea of the product because of what it does – essentially turn any cream lipstick you have into a matte colour.  Because of that you don’t have to go out and spend tons of money staying on trend.  I will say though that it doesn’t leave you with as matte of a colour as true matte lipsticks do, but then again you don’t get that tight feeling that comes with matte lip colour.

The Smashbox Insta-Matte Lipstick Transformer retails for C$26, so it’s essentially the price of two to three matte lip colours, or one if you’re buying a more prestige brand.  If you are really into matte lip colour, I would look into this for sure.

Do you love the matte lipstick trend?

Packing light: Travel skincare for him + her

Title I’m fortunate that I get to travel pretty often.

It seems like very month I’m jetting off to some place (unfortunately I don’t get to go to hot places very often though..) and because of this, I’ve mastered the art of the travel makeup and skincare bag.

I’ll be honest, I hate packing, and I hate unpacking even more. Because of this I have dedicated bags full of products already ready to go. I don’t need to unpack or repack once I load or unload my suitcase, I just toss it under my sink.  Since space is a must in any suitcase, it’s wise to maximize how much you have.

I have minis of shampoo and conditioner, hair products (split-end tamer and serum is a must), as well as a dedicated travel toothbrush and toothpaste, mini deodorant, and travel perfumes.  But what about skincare? Recently, when I was in Toronto last week I actually packed something new.  The Mereadesso Travel Ease Kit, which retails for $45 at http://www.mereadesso.com, is so small that you can even toss it in your purse.  The kit comes with a 12 ml of the All-in-One Moisturizer, which works as a day cream, eye cream, night cream, serum and primer, which is a lifesaver when you need some extra room.  Also included is a 12 ml of the P, which is a non-foaming all-in-one makeup remover, mask, scrub, and toner that will even take off the most stubborn mascara, as well as a specially designed cleaning cloth and reusable pouch.

Mereadesso

I was a bit sceptical about this as the packaging said to basically work the cleanser into your face, and then with the damp cloth, work the product into your skin.  The cloth also helps remove your makeup, and it did a pretty good job of doing it. These three items were really all I needed to get off a day’s worth of makeup (and even a night’s).

Since I was travelling with my boyfriend for the weekend, I tossed the Jack Black Jet Set Traveller Kit in his suitcase.  Jack Black is a pretty renowned men’s brand, so I knew these products would go over well.

JB

Housed in a plastic zip pouch, this set contains pretty generous sizes of the Pure Clean Daily Facial Cleaner, the Double-Duty Face Moisturizer (it also has an SPF, which was a total plus for my BF), and the Supreme Cream for shaving. Jack Black products are free from parabens, sulphates, colorants, and synthetic fragrance. This kit retails for $33 and is available from Sephora or http://www.getjackblack.ca.

Travelling can sometimes be a pain for your skin, so I highly recommend tossing some good-quality products into your bag.  Just make sure they are small ones, you’ll need the room for all the things you’ll be bringing back! 😉

What are your travel skincare essentials?
