Glam nails: October Formula X Color Curators Collection with Huda Beauty

title

When I found out the Formula X’s October Color Curator was Huda Kattan, I got *so* excited.  In case you don’t know, Formula X teams up with a different influencer every month and releases three polishes in a limited edition collection. Some months have definitely been better than others, but I knew Huda wouldn’t disappoint.

She boy she didn’t. Huda Kattan is the middle eastern beauty behind Huda Beauty, a YouTuber, blogger, social media influencer, and the creator behind her own brand of cosmetics (which includes false lashes and lip products). The three colours she chose for her collab with Formula X include two shimmers and a creme.

There’s Date Night, a burgundy creme, Baroque Babe, a shimmery rose gold, and Jetsetter, a black shimmer.  All three of these polishes are just so glamorous once applied, and definitely fit any skin tone.  Also, they are so seasonally appropriate and even workable as we enter the holidays since two of them have some glitter in them.

For me, it was so hard choosing which polish to play first because they are all so stunning. I ended up going with Jetsetter on my nails and Date Night on my toes.  All three of the polishes were opaque after one coat (although if you want the glitter to be more prominent, I would go with two coats for Baroque Babe).

All three colours are still available for purchase online, but check your local Sephora store to see if they still have them. I think this is the best Color Curators collection they’ve come out with in a while, I can’t wait to see who the final two collaborators are!

Have you picked up any polishes from the Formula X Color Curators Huda Beauty collection?

Please note, items sent by PR. All opinions are my own.

Mad about plaid + win tickets to the Winnipeg Pet Show!

title Pumpkin spice lattes, chunky sweaters, and plaid. Three things that just scream fall to me.

I’m not going to lie, I absolutely love plaid. There’s something about that checkered pattern that is so iconically fall and Canadian that I could wear it day in and day out. When I saw this plaid Halloween shirt (it’s technically a lumberjack costume) for dogs at HomeSense I just had to buy it for Ziggy.

Like mother, like son, so I pulled out my buffalo-check plaid last weekend. This shirt is actually a men’s dress shirt from H&M that I got a few years ago that I love wearing overtop of black tights and a black tank top for a casual fall look. You can also pair it with a fur vest if it gets chilly outside, or with a belt to dress it up a little bit. To make the outfit super seasonal appropriate, pair the outfit with a neutral eye and a berry lip that just screams autumn.

pathway

Every year I buy Ziggy a new Halloween costume and if you love dressing up your dog, make sure you check out the Winnipeg Pet Show, happening next weekend, October 15-16, 2016 at the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg. The show is presented by the Winnipeg Veterinary Care Group and is a weekend dedicated to people who love their pets.  Although there will be tons of pet-related products and fun, family entertainment, including a pet fashion show (I *cannot* wait), CKC Breeders Showcase and X-Treme Dogs, plus Play Zone, Adoption & Rescue Haven, Kitty Corner, Fish & Bird World, Critter Corner and Reptile Island. Tickets are $12, kids 12 and under are free. You can find out more info at their official site.

If you are in the Winnipeg area and are obsessed with animals like me, you’re in luck! I’m giving away four pairs of tickets to some lucky winners! All you have to do is either leave me a comment below with what your favourite animal is, retweet this message, comment on my Facebook post, or leave me a comment on Instagram. I’ll pick the winners on October 13 and you must be following me on social media so I can contact you.

If you don’t win tickets, they also have some pretty fetch ticket offers. Donate $2 to adoption and rescue groups and $2 from every ticket of this type will be donated to Winnipeg local rescue and adoption organizations. There is also a Me+3 4-pack ticket offer. Unfortunately you can’t bring your pets to the show, but I’m sure those sweet angels will be so excited to see what you get them (they’ll be wagging their little tails at the door).

Let me know if you are planning on attending the Winnipeg Pet Show this year! Also, anyone else dressing their dog up for Halloween?

Up the drama: New lip products for fall from Maybelline

maybelline-title

Lip products are the one beauty product I cannot get enough of.

Although my makeup drawer is filled to the brim with lipsticks, lip glosses, liquid lipsticks, etc., I love trying out new colours and new formulas. One of my favourite drugstore formula is the Maybelline Color Sensational lipsticks, as they are just so creamy, glide on, and give major colour payoff.

Their fall collection, The Loaded Bolds, is made up to 10 dramatic shades perfect for the fall season. To the on-trend taupe Gone Greige to the forever in-style berry, Midnight Merlot, there is a colour for pretty much anyone’s fall look.

I received two of the shades from the 10-piece collection Mauve It, a muted mauve colour, and Midnight Merlot, a dark red-burgundy (I also featured them in last week’s fall roundup post). Both of these applied amazing and were super flattering on the lips. Best of all, they stayed put pretty much all day. I had to reapply Midnight Merlot a bit because of eating and drinking, but considering these are both cream lipsticks, the longevity on them held up quite well.

Color Sensational has been around a while, but new to the game are the Maybelline Color Jolt Intense Lip Paints. Available in eight shades from nudes to reds to purples, these give you eight-times more pigment with a dramatic application. They are in a squeeze tube with a soft flocked tip applicator, meaning you squeeze the tube to get the colour. These are super easy to apply and actually remind me of the Too Faced Melted Lipsticks (same application method, but smaller) and the OCC Lip Tars, but in a more convenient application method. Both come in a little squeeze tube, but the OCC ones you apply with a brush, which can get a little messy.

I received two colours from this line to try out, Talk Back Red and Never Bare. Never Bare is a peony-coloured pink that actually applies much nicer in tone than it looks in the package. Talk Back Red isn’t a true red, but has more of a pink undertone; it was also super flattering and very vivid on the lips.

Both of these lasted for quite some time with them fading to a stain throughout the day. They were both also super easy to apply, no lip liner ended. For C$11.99, these are much more affordable than their OCC and Too Faced counterparts. Like I said, there are only eight shades, but I’m sure they will be releasing more over the next few seasons because they are seriously bomb.

Have you tried any of the new Maybelline fall 2016 lip colour releases?
