Like a cloud: Rimmel London Lasting Finish Breathable collection

Looking for a long-wearing, lightweight foundation? If so, Rimmel London is coming to the rescue.

Launched last month in drugstores, the British beauty brand has released its newest foundation, concealer, and primer to the Lasting Finish umbrella of products. The Lasting Finish Breathable Foundation is a long-wearing, lightweight skin-perfecting foundation with a medium coverage that moisturizes for up to 25 hours. Available in 17 shades, this foundation provides a ton of options for those with pink or yellow-toned skin, however, the choices are very slim for darker-toned complexions.

The brand was kind enough to send me a giant box with all the shades, as well as the concealers and the primer. After some trial and error, I ended up going with 101 Classic Ivory, which suited my complexion nicely. Although it looks like a pump bottle, of which the other Lasting Finish foundation comes in, this one is actually a big doe-foot applicator that you use to paint on the product. It’s different from what I’m used to, but I’m totally digging it as it allows me to place the foundation on my skin where I need it most.

Now you guys know me and I love something on the heavier side, but lightweight at the same time. This foundation was okay. It does the trick for daytime wear. It’s very light on the skin and gives you a nice coverage, and although I did wear it out a couple times on a Saturday night to test it out, this wouldn’t normally be the one I would reach for. I would say this is a true medium coverage and it is a very comfortable wear. As for 25-hours worth of it, I wouldn’t say it goes that far, as your foundation won’t look as fresh as it does when you first apply it, but it held up well after a day of work and then a workout.

Rimmel London has also released a range of concealers, the Lasting Finish Breathable Concealer, which also has medium coverage and comes in five shades. The concealer comes in a squeeze tube with a sponge-tip applicator, so if you are looking for something to give you a precise application, this might not do the trick. Like the foundation, I actually really like the applicator on this, as it makes it very easy to apply under the eyes. I find the formula to be on the thin side, in both texture and wear, so if you are looking to cover up some major dark circles, I would look into a heavier product. This is a perfect concealer to pair with a BB cream or a light-coverage foundation as it does give you a bit of coverage; however, this wouldn’t be something I would reach for during a night out. It’s good for everyday wear at the office, since I don’t put as much effort into my daytime wear as I do my night.

Lastly, to complete the collection, the Lasting Finish Breathable Primer is a lightweight skin-perfecting primer that will help to extend the life of your foundation by up to eight hours (so does that mean the foundation could technically stay fresh for 33 hours??). You can wear this alone or under your makeup to minimize pores. I have the original Lasting Finish primer as well, but I do find this one better, since it’s a touch thicker than its predecessor. I actually really like using this with the foundation as it truly does make the foundation last longer and look more luminous.

Overall I think this is an okay collection. I have tried better foundations and I have tried worse. Like I said, the wear on this is incredibly comfortable, so it lives up to the “breathable” claim. There are so many good drugstore foundations on the market right now though, that unless a light-to-medium coverage finish is your thing, I would try something else. I do like how they have such an extensive shade range (17 colours!), but unless you have lighter skin, it may be difficult to find a shade that matches your skintone.

Smooth + lifted: Final results with the Silk’n Titan Device for tightening and lifting

If you’re a regular reader of mine, you would have been following my journey using the Silk’n Titan device for tightening and lifting. This device, which came out last year, is something you use twice a week for 10-15 minutes per zone to help reverse the signs of aging and get firmer, more lifted skin.

This is my third and final post (view my previous two posts here and here) on the product, as I’ve been using it religiously for the past 10 weeks. I started my journey with the device in October and to be honest, I was a total skeptic on how well it would work. Since I’m only 29 years old, I wasn’t using it to get rid of wrinkles, but instead to prevent them from happening and give me younger-looking skin around my eyes.

The recommended usage for the device is twice a week, 10-to-15 minutes per zone for 10 weeks. The Titan, which has been clinically tested and FDA cleared and Health Canada approved, safely tightens facial skin from the inside out, reducing wrinkles by repairing the collagen in our face (as you age, the collagen in your skin breaks down, which is when you start to see fine lines and wrinkles). So how does it do this? The Titan harmonizes the benefits of three sources of energy: Bi-Polar RF energy, LED light energy and IR heat energy. The powerful combination of these three energy sources creates a safe, painless and proven result. After regular use, skin should appear more lifted, making you look younger and your skin looking more glowy.

I chose to do my under eyes since I feel like that would be the area that I would notice wrinkles happening first. As I mentioned in my halfway post, although I didn’t see the changes happening every week, when I looked at the before and after images, there was a noticeable difference in how lifted my eye area looked.

To use the device, first slather some of the Silk’n Slider Hyaluronic Gel on the area you are treating, then pick a level that is comfortable for you and slide the device around the area for 10 to 15 minutes. I found that I had to reapply the gel a few times since my skin would absorb it, but Silk’n says that you need to use the gel for the product to really work its magic. Since I was doing both eyes, I would invest 20 minutes, twice a week to treat that area of my face.

Now 40 minutes per week doesn’t sound like a lot of time, however, I’m always doing something and don’t usually have any downtime. I also wear glasses, which made it very difficult to use on my under eyes since they would get in the way. I would end up using the product while reading a book or watching something on my phone since I would hold it right up to my eyes. Honestly, the only downside of this product is the time investment. It’s a lot of time to use this, especially when you are a busy person. With that being said, I really liked using the Titan before bed since the heat from the product was very relaxing and made me sleepy. I used this on the highest level, however, I started at a lower one initially and then built it up once my skin got used to the feeling. Unlike other anti-aging devices out there, this one does not sting, so it’s a comfortable application.

So, my results? I was actually quite surprised on how impressed I was with this device. In addition to a more firming, lifted appearance, my under eyes feel very smooth, which is awesome when I apply a moisturizer after using the Titan. This retails for C$299 (you can find it at London Drugs, Shoppers Drug Mart, and other retailers), which is quite an investment, however, I have used at-home devices that cost way more money and promise to do the same thing. Also, if you were to visit a clinic to get this done, it would cost you a lot more money.

Now that my 10 weeks are over, Silk’n does recommend using the device once every two weeks to maintain the results. Now that I’m done my under eyes, I actually want to do my chin and neck area, since I’ve been finding that the skin is starting to loose some elasticity in that area and I would love to get rid of that double chin. Also, I don’t think I would have much of an issue using it on that area since I can actually keep my glasses on.

I would love to know if you have ever used any at-home anti-aging devices and how well they worked for you. Like I said, aside from the time commitment, I really liked how the Titan made my skin look and feel.

What are your thoughts on anti-aging devices? Have you tried them?

Moisture bound: Winter beauty staples from P&G Beauty

The first part of this month I couldn’t wait to get away.  Since I didn’t have any real vacations booked, I was banking on a work trip to Vancouver to get me out of my “I want to get out of here” funk.  Well, after a week of gloomy, rainy weather, I’m kinda happy to be back in snowy Winnipeg, where although it’s colder and whiter here, at least the sun comes out on a regular basis.

But with snow and winter comes dryness and dullness.  P&G Beauty sent me a care package of some of their new products from Olay, Pantene, Head & Shoulders, and Secret back in December and since I was so busy with holiday beauty, I hadn’t really gotten the chance to go through it.  Some of the products in the box are actually items that I use on a regular basis since they work so amazingly.  Take for instance the Olay 4-in-1 Daily Facial Cloths for Sensitive Skin, which are cleansing wipes that clean your face, tone it, and act as a mask and scrub.  I love using these on nights where I am out at an event and have a ton of makeup on. When I get home the last thing I want to do is wash my face. These make it so easy to take everything off, fast. Just wet them and go to town on your face, then apply your favourite moisturizer.

Another fave is the Olay Ultra Moisture Body Wash, which not only moisturizes your skin but also makes it feel incredibly clean. The formula gives you long-lasting moisture that absorbs to help treat dryness at the source (hello, winter), rather than just having the product sit on your skin’s surface. As a result, you’re left with clean, moisturized skin that radiates.

Speaking of skin, do you ever get stress sweat? I do, but thankfully Secret Clinical has a deodorant that will give you lasting odour protection throughout the day. Secret Clinical Light & Fresh is perfect for pretty much any occasion, whether it’s at the office, at the gym, or on a date (especially a first one).

Another pre-date-night item? A good hairspray. Whenever my boyfriend and I go out, I always make sure to curl my hair, to set it, i’ve been using the Pantene Pro-V Style Series Airspray for a year now and was happy to get another bottle of it since I’m almost out of my first one. This hairspray is a lightweight, alcohol-free hairspray designed to provide a flexible hold for healthy, shiny hair. Best of all, your hair doesn’t feel stiff, sticky, or look weighed down. My curls stay in tack and my hair feels soft and silky, to boot.

Other products I’ve been digging is the Head & Shoulders Nourishing Care Shampoo and Conditioner, which is awesome for the dry weather, since I find my scalp tends to flake in the winter months. This duo has the 3 Action Formula, which cleans to remove oil, protect your scalp from dandruff, and moisturize.  After my hair is washed, I use the Pantene Pro-V Smoothing Combing Creme, which hydrates hair strands for effortless detangling and adds moisture and shine. I always use a serum and a split end tamer, so this is great to use instead since it helps detangle my hair and add in the benefits of a serum.

My skin and hair has been loving me lately since everything has been nice and moisturized, thanks to these goodies from Olay, Pantene, Head & Shoulders, and Secret.

What are your winter skincare and hair staples?
