Fluttery lashes: Covergirl LashBlast Flourish mascara

I’ve always loved CoverGirl mascaras.

Not sure what it is about them, but every one I have tried I’ve just loved. When people ask me for mascara recommendations I’ll usually say Too Faced Better Than Sex, Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes, L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Lash Paradise, and pretty much any mascara from CoverGirl.

A couple weeks back, the drugstore beauty brand sent me a box which opened up to every single LashBlast they have released, as well as their new one, Flourish. Available in four shades (brown, brown black, black, and very black), this mascara – housed in a turquoise packaging – includes lush ingredients such as coconut, avocado, and papaya oils to help condition lashes, build volume, and add definition.

It seems like coconut oil in mascaras is a thing now since I feel like I have tried numerous new mascaras lately with that star ingredient. I have to say that I do enjoy this little addition since it helps to nourish lashes and keep them soft. With Flourish, you’ll definitely notice that your lashes look nice and soft.

Just like how CoverGirl has knocked it out of the park with their other mascaras, this one kills it once again. This mascara is perfect for everyday wear since your lashes look and feel soft, long, and separated. There’s no clumping and there’s soft buildable volume in here. The reason this mascara works so well is no doubt the brush. It’s long and thin, letting you coat every single lash and get the product on from base to tips.

So how does it stack up to the rest of them? I would say this is like Clump Crusher, but with a more nourishing formula. Long, luscious lashes that are soft and nourished? Total win-win. Pick this one up, ASAP.

Which CoverGirl mascara is your favourite?

Punk rock: Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Pastel Punk collection

I love it when I get new nail polish collections.

Although I certainly do not need any more polishes, it’s still super exciting when new collections come out since I love seeing each brand’s take on the new season.

For spring, Sally Hansen has released a collection exclusive to Canada that pays homage to the ’80s.  The Pastel Punk collection, which arrived in stores this month, is a fun collection that is inspired by the bright colours of the 1980s. This collection is in their Miracle Gel formula, which is a two-step at-home gel system with no light needed. Step 1, the colour, includes a base coat and then you grab Step 2, the topcoat to seal it all in. The topcoat provides a gel finish with shine that lasts longer than your typical polish.

The colours in this collection are very summery as they lean more towards pastels (hence the name, duh). Here’s the thing though, all the polish names have nothing to do with punk or the ’80s. In fact, it kinda seems like Sally Hansen just took a different, marriage or Hawaiian-themed collection and then just changed it and said it’s exclusive to Canada. Upon doing further research into each particular polish, it looks like this collection is a mish-mash of polishes from different recent collections, all of which were.. you guessed it.. beach themed.

Anyways, if you are looking for some fun lighter colours this season, this collection has you covered. There are cremes and shimmers in this collection, and for the most part, I only had to use two coats for the majority of the colours (I used three for After Alter and I Lava You).  Since the colours are so light, it really is a collection suitable for every skin tone.

Overall, I think this is a really fun collection, and there are a few colours in here that I think would be staples in anyone’s nail collection. Namely, After Alter, Ocean Daze, and Just Maui’d. I love bright pastels for spring, and this collection just hits it on the head with them.

On another completely unrelated note, since I have you here already I wanted to chat about a colourful show I recently watched here in Winnipeg this past weekend.  Cavalia Odysseo is in town once again under the big white tent at the corner of Sterling Lyon Parkway and Kenaston Blvd.  I did see the show last time it was in town and loved it so much that I just had to see it again.

In case you aren’t familiar with the touring production, Cavalia Odysseo is a blend of equestrian and performing arts, complete with awe-inspiring special effects. There are 50 riders, acrobats, aerialists, musicians, and horses that put on an incredible two-hour show. Think Cirque du Soleil, but with horses.

Like I said, I had previously seen the show when it was in town two years ago, and when I heard it was coming back, I just had to see it again. Cavalia was super kind and hooked me up with the Rendezvous Gold VIP passes, which included fourth-row seats, a full meal buffet before the show in the VIP tent with patio; dessert served during intermission; drink tickets, unlimited coffee, tea, water, and soft drinks, a Odysseo souvenir program, and a stable visit after the show.

Having seen the show with both a regular ticket and the VIP ticket, honestly, there isn’t a bad seat in the house. The VIP treatment was very special, and if you can afford it, I would definitely recommend you splurge as you certainly do get a lot of perks for the extra cost (the seats themselves were amazing!).

So how did the actual show compare to the first time I saw it. Truth be told, I’m not sure if they changed anything.  There were some parts that I remembered from the first time around, but honestly, it is such an incredible production that if you have the opportunity to see it again, I definitely would. The special effects, and not to mention the acrobatics with the horses, is incredible and it’s definitely a treat. If you didn’t see the show the first time around, I highly recommend checking it out this time around as it’s an incredible spectacle.  If you haven’t picked up tickets yet, they actually extended the show until June 17 (Father’s Day), so there’s still plenty of time to find seats.

Do you plan on picking up any colours from the Sally Hansen Pastel Punk collection?

Totally wearable: Revlon ColorStay Foundation and Kiss Plumping Lip Cremes

Foundation and lip colours. I would probably say those are the two items that I get the most of being a blogger.

Always on the hunt for the most perfect formula of lipstick or the most wearable foundation, I never turn down an opportunity to try out a new product. I’ve tried most beauty brands I would say, but a line that I don’t typically wear that often is Revlon. Don’t get me wrong, their stuff is awesome, but since I work with so many brands, I wouldn’t usually go out of my way to purchase a product just because I simply don’t need anything at this point (Sephora VIB sales kill me since I find I’m just spending money to get a small discount on something I really don’t need).

Anyways, the brand recently sent on their ColorStay foundation, which is a classic, as well as their new Kiss Plumping Lip Cremes, and I couldn’t help but be super excited and dive in.

Revlon ColorStay 24-hour foundation

First up, Revlon’s ColorStay foundation is apparently America’s number-one foundation and they offer it in 35 shades for both combination/oily skin and normal/dry skin. This product is dispensed via a pump and it conveniently includes an SPF 20 in it, so it’s perfect for summer. I got the colour Natural Beige for normal/dry skin, which I find is a touch darker than my skin at the moment, but will suit my complexion wonderfully once I start developing some of that summer colour.

Revlon bills this foundation as a flawless coverage that lasts for 24 hours. I didn’t wear it that long, but did find that it held up quite well through an Orange Theory Fitness class, and those classes are no joke. The wear on this is comfortable and lightweight; it’s not heavy or cakey. As for blendability, it goes on smoothly and absorbs in quite nice. It’s a great everyday foundation.

So is it my favourite drugstore foundation? It doesn’t give me that glow I usually like, but it’s a good foundation. The coverage is nice and it doesn’t feel like you are wearing foundation (both how it feels on the face, as well as when you touch your face).

Before and after using Revlon ColorStay 24-hour foundation

At C$16.46 (Walmart Canada pricing), it rivals L’Oreal Paris, but is a little more pricey than Maybelline and Covergirl (both of which are favourites of mine). I think this would be a great summer foundation since it’s lightweight but provides good coverage. Also, the colour selection on this is great and I like how it has an SPF built in.

Now, as for the Kiss Plumping Lip Cremes, these are new from the brand and are available in 10 shades from nudes to pinks to deeps. The brand sent me the colour Cashmere Crème, the nude, and I actually already had Peony Buff already laying around, a pink, so I’m glad I have at least two colours to show and give my fair opinion.

Like the name suggests, these have a cooling sensation in them to gently plump the lips. They also contain Volulip, which Revlon says visibly enhances the size of lips over time. The colour payoff on these aren’t the greatest, but I’m fine with that since the size of them makes it super easy to just toss in your bag. They are also super moisturizing and have a creamy shine finish, so it’s a great everyday lip product. I would wear this with a light foundation or BB cream and some mascara for a no-makeup makeup look.

As for the colours, Cashmere Crème doesn’t have much colour payoff, but Peony Buff does lend a little bit of pink to the lips (especially if you really slather it on). Overall, I would say these are alright. Like I said, these are the perfect lip product to just toss in your bag and go about your day. Sometimes you just don’t want to think about the lipstick you’re going to wear, and these are great for that. Go with the nude or the pink for a universal tone that is easy to wear.

Overall, both of these Revlon products don’t make me want to go out and buy more, however, they do the trick and are perfect for everyday wear.

Have you tried Revlon’s ColorStay Foundation or Kiss Plumping Lip Cremes? What were your thoughts?
