Completely flushed: Charlotte Tilbury Pretty Youth Glow Filter

I’m not that picky when it comes to blushes.

Hey, if it does the trick, then it does that trick, am I right? Anyways, I am a huge fan of Charlotte Tilbury’s makeup line, I was excited to try out some of her new Pretty Youth Glow Filters.

Available in two shades, these are a cheek duo consisting of a cream-to-powder blush and highlighter duo that is designed to give you a youthful, fresh complexion. The brand was amazing and sent me both shades, Pretty Fresh (coral) and Seduce (pink), and the first thing you’ll notice about these beauties when they are on is that they are very faint.  They also sent along the Cheek Hug brush which is designed to fit the contours of your cheeks, so I’ve been using that with these to create a natural-looking flush.

The formula in the blush and highlight is a rubbery wax that blends out to a dry-touch feeling. The colour doesn’t go on harsh, but rather very sheer.  Although the compact for these are stunning, be prepared to get them messy quite quickly due to the formula and the way the you apply them on the brush.

Okay, so I really wanted to love this product, and although I don’t like a harsh blush, I did find the formula to be too sheer for my liking. Since it’s a gel, I found it a bit inconvenient to get it on the Cheek Hug brush. I had to practically dig the brush into the pan to pick up any colour and even then, it seemed to smudge all over the compact.  The highlight in these are even more sheer than the blush. I used my finger to apply the highlight since I found the brush too thick to concentrate the product on the areas I wanted highlighting.

You can kind of see the product in the photo above, but it’s definitely on the sheer side. Truth be told though, I always go in with a light hand for my blush anyways, so that didn’t really bother me. The part I didn’t love was the actual formula. Don’t get me wrong, it feels amazing, but when it comes to the actual application of it, it was hard to get onto the Cheek Hug brush and I don’t really have another brush that would do it justice.

These retail for C$50 and can be found at high-end department stores like Nordstrom. They are limited edition and the brand does offer up kits with the compact and the brush for $75. I’ve tried a number of products from the brand and although I’ve loved everything thus far, these Glow Filters just don’t do it for me at that price point. I think that if they were a normal powder formula, rather than the gel, they would work a little better. If you are looking for that glow from within look, then these are perfect, but if you want something a little more noticeable, then I would skip them.

Skin deep: Vita Liberata self-tanning products

I am a self-tan freak.

As someone who does not tan well naturally, I always have to keep a stock of self tanners in my collection.  I’ve tried so many brands throughout the years, and although the formulas for many have definitely gotten better as time has gone on, one of my favourite ones to date is Vita Liberata.

In case you’ve never heard of them, Vita Liberata can be found at Sephora and is based out of Ireland.  They actually created the world’s first odourless tan in 2007 and their unique Odour Remove technology is now present in all their at-home self and salon spray tans.

Vita Liberata self-tanning mousses Before and after using Vita Liberata Invisi mousse

I’ve tried a variety of products from the line through the years and I completely swear by the pHenomenal 2-3 Week Tan Mousse.  This fast-drying tanning mousse, which you apply with a glove, contains their pHenO2 Technology for a long-lasting, natural-looking tan, which gives you instant colour which will develop over four to eight hours.  I always apply this at night and by the time I wake up, I’m super bronzed (it comes in three colours – fair, medium, and dark, and I always get the darkest lol). They say that it lasts up to two to three weeks, but since I work out and shower a lot, I find it lasts on my skin about a week’s time. This is also fine to use on both the face and body.

Since I love this product so much, I always get so excited to try out new items that they release. They recently came out with Invisi Foaming Tan Water — available in three shades, Light/Medium, Medium/Dark, and Super Dark — which retails for a little less than their original pHenomenal tanner (C$49 compared to C$65). This formula contains organic botanicals that are supercharged with their Advoganic technology for hydration and an anti-age skin treatment. The formula is a mousse, so although the product is clear it dispenses white and is super fast drying.

I got the super dark colour and was really impressed with how this turned out on my skin (see before and after photo above). Since it goes on invisible I figured it could be hit or miss. With that being said, I did use the darkest colour and it definitely didn’t give me a spray tan dark colour, but I feel that if I were to have gotten the lighter shades, it wouldn’t have done much for my skin (and I’m quite pale as it is). I got a nice glow that wasn’t too drastic, but still noticeable.

Vita Liberata Body Blur Skin-Tone Optimizer Before and after using Vita Liberata Body Blur Skin-Tone Optimizer

To match my new tan with my face, I’Ve been loving the Beauty Blur Skin Tone Optimiser (C$50), which is a facial product that you can use as a foundation primer or as facial tint.  You can use this all over the body, however, I have only used it for my face and it’s given me the most perfect tinted glow.  Available in five shades (Cafe Creme, Light Latte, Latte, Latte Dark, and Mocha), use this by itself or layered under foundation or over sunscreen for that “glowing from within” look.

The Beauty Blur Skin Tone Optimiser is actually part of the Body Blur family, which is a product that acts like Photoshop but in real life. I have tried their original Body Blur before on my legs and this is a gel product that smooths out imperfections and gives you a slight tint. It’s like you are wearing pantyhose, but you’re not.  New to the line is the Body Blur Sunless Glow (C$50), available in three shades, which combine the original formula with a self tanner (the perfect combo, if you ask me). This body makeup contains self tanner, so it gives you flawless skin while you’re wearing it, while also developing a tan. Once the product is washed off you are left with glowing legs.

Although I liked the original Body Blur, I always found that you could feel the product on your legs.  This is still the case, but just the fact that they added the self tanner component to it makes it all worth it. Typically when I get a spray tan or apply tanner, my legs seem to lose colour the quickest, so this is the perfect product to have on hand to keep my tan looking fresh and consistent with the rest of my body.

Vita Liberata Sunless Glow Body Blur

Although I live and breathe by their original mousse, I have to say that I am so impressed with what Vita Liberata has come out with recently. The whole line is phenomenal (no pun intended), and I can honestly say that I can’t pick just one product to recommend, they are all amazing.

We are in the dog days of summer here, so if you want to keep that glow going as we transition into fall, I definitely recommend picking up some of these products.  Also, if you have a vacation coming up, these will work wonders for you as well.

Brighter eyes: L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Mascara in Burgundy

I have never tried Canada’s number-one mascara.

Even though L’Oreal Paris’ Voluminous mascara is a staple, I’ve never actually gotten around to trying it. I remember back in the day before I even had this blog I would watch YouTubers and they would always swear by it, but for some reason I never picked it up. And then I became a blogger and I just didn’t need to pick it up since I had so many mascaras in my collection (actually, to be honest, as I’m writing this, I think at the time I had lash extensions).

Anyways, when I got a box in the mail the other week with their newest colour of Voluminous I was so excited to try it out. I mean, it was like 10 years in the making.

New to the game is the Voluminous Original Mascara in the colour deep burgundy (it also comes in black brown, black, blackest black, and cobalt blue).

Now if you’re like me and have never tried the original Voluminous before, this mascara is billed to resist clumping, soften, and build lashes up to five-times their natural thickness. The formula is supposed to quickly thicken and build lashes for a full and dramatic look. It will also leave you with soft lashes that don’t flake, smudge or clump.

Now I’m not sure why L’Oreal would come out with a purple colour in this formula, but to be honest, once it’s on your lashes, it’s not that noticeably burgundy. In fact, when I was using it, I didn’t even feel like it did much for my lashes at all. Sure, it added some dimension, but I have other mascaras that truly do wonders for me and I didn’t get what the hype was about this one. You guys know I love the L’Oreal Paris Lash Paradise mascara, which is an offshoot of the original, but this did absolutely nothing for my lashes.

Okay, so formula aside, I didn’t really notice a change in colour once I applied it. Since purple typically makes blue eyes pop, I had high hopes for this, but there wasn’t a huge difference between the burgundy and black. I guess it makes your lashes look less noticeable if you want a subtle makeup look, but that’s about it. Honestly though, this mascara did absolutely nothing for me, which was a huge bummer considering how iconic it was. I had high hopes for this one.

If you are a fan of the original, I would say to just stick with the black colour. Like I said, I don’t get the point of a burgundy mascara. This made my eyelashes look a tinge more noticeable, but if you’re going to invest in a mascara, I would suggest just sticking to plain ol’ black, it’ll do you wonders.
