I would never say no to trying out a new lipstick.
Lipsticks are truly that one item that no matter how many you have, you can always have more. I probably have at least 100 lipsticks in my collection and there’s probably been at least 1,000 of them that have rotated through my collection throughout all these years of blogging.
New to the office? The BareMinerals BarePro Longwear Lipsticks (C$25). These lipsticks actually surprised me since I thought they were just your plain ‘ol cream lipstick. I didn’t really know anything about them, but was pleasantly surprised once I got to trying them out.
The BareMinerals BarePro Longwear Matte Lipsticks is a collection of 20 shades that is a full-coverage, mineral-rich lipstick with a soft matte finish that lasts up to eight hours. You wouldn’t know this just by looking at it, or by applying it, but once it’s on it settles thanks to its Mineral Lock Longer Technology, making it transfer-proof, waterproof, smudge-proof, budge-proof, kiss-proof and cocktail-proof. Yes, that’s a lot of proofs.
Since BareMinerals is a vegan, natural line, these lipsticks contain baobab oil, which has antioxidants and vitamin C to help moisturize the lips; sunflower seed and jojoba waxes to help hydrate, nourish, and prevent moisture loss; and raspberry and blackcurrant seed oils, to provide antioxidant benefits to help defend against environmental stressors.
I received five of the 20 shades, and although I got a handful of nudes there are also an abundance of bright colours to choose from as well. When you first apply this lipstick, the colour is super creamy, so it really came as a shock to find out that it settles down and stays there. I was totally expecting a normal lipstick formula, one that you feel on the lips. This one sticks to your lips but is still hydrating, making it a comfortable wear.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by these and will definitely be rotating them into my collection of everyday lipsticks. If you are looking for a new lipstick that won’t budge but don’t like the liquid lipstick formula, then I highly recommend you give these a shot. I think they’ll surprise you as much as they did for me.

If you weren’t a fan of the original ShapeTape Foundation, then Tarte is giving you another chance to try it out.
When the original ShapeTape Foundation launched in 2018, the brand released 25 shades, disappointing fans who said that the line wasn’t inclusive enough for all skin tones. Although it is still available on the Tarte site as of right now, the brand recently introduced a new version called FaceTape, available in 50 shades.
FaceTape (C$51) is a brand-new formula inspired by their popular ShapeTape Concealer. It’s a hypoallergenic, long-wearing, full-coverage foundation that mattifies, hydrates, and brightens the skin. The brand consulted with makeup artists and Instagram feedback to come up with a foundation that offers five undertones, pink, yellow, neutral, peach, and golden/olive.
Unlike the original ShapeTape Foundation, FaceTape is closer in formula to the ShapeTape concealer and is transfer-proof, waterproof, and sweat proof. It also contains snow mushroom extract, apple fruit extract, and hyaluronic acid to hydrate and brighten the appearance.
I got to try out three of the shades, 12N (fair neutral – fair skin with neutral undertones), 20B (light beige – light skin with pink undertones), and 27H (light medium honey – light to medium skin with peach undertones). I found 20B and 27H to be similar and both worked for my skin. This foundation is billed as a full-coverage foundation but very lightweight in texture. When I think of full coverage, a thicker foundation definitely comes to mind, so it was a bit strange that this is so light to apply but leaves you with a nice complexion. I will note though that I found it was a nicer application with the use of a sponge rather than a brush. It looked more radiant when I patted the product into my skin as opposed to buffing it.
Aside from the shade range, another difference between FaceTape and ShapeTape is the applicator. ShapeTape featured a wand to apply the product, which was cool but not really efficient. This one has a pump, making it way easier to dispense the product.
Overall, I think this foundation did the trick, but I wouldn’t say it beats my other full-coverage foundations. It was a comfortable wear and I’ll definitely be including it in my rotation, but I do prefer some of my other foundations more. I do like it better than the ShapeTape formula and think it has a better wear and coverage to it (plus the applicator is WAY better). ShapeTape actually came in two different formulas, hydrating and matte, and although I did like the matte one better, I think FaceTape is the better product overall.
With 50 shades, I would say that this is probably one of the best shade ranges I have seen and I have to give kudos to Tarte for recognizing that their customers weren’t happy and coming up with an option to fix it.
The original ShapeTape foundations are still available, but not sure for how long. I’m thinking that Tarte is probably just trying to clear out their stock, but who knows. Regardless, I would definitely give FaceTape a try if you love their ShapeTape concealer, since now you can actually complete the combo, the way Tarte meant it to be.

It’s no lie, I love self tanners.
For a girl who doesn’t tan very well naturally, I rely a great deal on self tanners. I’ve used so many brands and formulas through the years that I have narrowed down my favourites, both in terms of brands and the kind of self tanner I like to use.
Of course though, I’m always up for something new.
Last October at the #LDBeauty event in Whistler one of the items I was gifted was the St. Tropez Purity Facial Bronzing Water, which is a facial spray that gives you a nice glow after a few hours. I’ll go more into this later in this post but when I saw that there was a Bronzing Water Gel, I was instantly intrigued.
The first thing that you’ll notice about the Self Tan Purity Bronzing Water Gel (C$54) is the scent. Self tanner has that stigma around it that it smells bad, and for the most part since it’s 2019 and brands have advanced their formulas and the scent, once the tan settles, most do still give you that BO smell. This one actually has a tropical scent to it (same with the spray, which is such a treat whenever I spray it), meaning that you’re not going to stink after you apply this.
As for the formula, it’s a transparent gel-to-water formula that glides on the skin (meaning a little goes a long way) and develops into a natural, golden tan in just three hours. It also contains natural skincare actives and hyaluronic acid to plump, regenerate, and protect the skin. St. Tropez says that there is no need for a rinse off after its developed and the non-sticky gel gives you 72-hour hydration, meaning that your tan will last longer.
I gave this a try with their mitt (they still recommend using the glove to apply this) and loved how it glided on my skin. I actually tried this out right after my trip from Vegas earlier this week and since I had a spray tan prior to the trip, I thought this would do the trick to make my tan last longer (and even out any patches). It’s not as dark as a spray tan (I usually go for the deepest-colour mousse I can find since I’m so pale – hey, go hard or go home), but I did like how it developed to a nice glow and it’s definitely made me look tan for much longer. Also, since it’s more of a glow rather than a drastic looking tan, that means that it’s virtually streak free.
Although there is no self tan smell to it, I will say that I actually hit up a spin class before rinsing it off and mixed with sweat, I could definitely start smelling it. If you’re planning on sweating before rinsing, I would recommend to hit the shower first (unless you don’t care, like I didn’t haha).
For the face, I highly recommend the St. Tropez Self Tan Purity Bronzing Water Mist (C$39). This stuff is truly incredible on so many levels. I usually use this spray after applying my self tanner or after my skincare routine before bed. Just spray it on your face for a natural-looking glow in just four to eight hours.
This mist also has that tropical scent to it and is infused with 100 per cent naturally derived and vegan-friendly tanning agents that refresh and revive your skin. Instead of your usual facial spray, use this instead for a nice treat. St. Tropez also mentions that it can be used over top of makeup as well (although I have not tried it this way).
If you’re worried that it will make your face look darker than the rest of your body, don’t be. This gives you a very subtle glow and if you are a regular user of self tanners you’ll know that the first area for it to wear off is usually the face since we use so many skincare products. This spray makes it easy for that glow to last and takes two seconds to apply. Even if you don’t pair this with a St. Tropez product, I would still recommend picking this up since I think it’s a very innovative product and if you are a self-tan user, then you’ll get good wear out of this (I’m already halfway through the bottle).
St. Tropez also offers a few other products as part of the Purity line, such as a bronzing mousse (which is usually more my jam). If you’re wondering what the difference is between the Purity line and the regular one, this one features that tropical scent and the products are clear and lightweight. I also believe that they are designed to give you a natural-looking glow as opposed to a drastic-looking tan.
I have been a huge fan of St. Tropez products for years (I still love their original bronzing mousse), but definitely have to give them credit for coming out with the Purity line. Anyone who can make self tanner actually smell good deserves a gold star in my book
