Summer smells: Three fragrances for the hot weather

Perfume title

So if you are like me, you categorize your perfumes by feelings, events, and seasons.  For instance, I’ll only wear certain scents during the winter or summer.  I have date night perfumes, vacation perfumes, Friday night out scents, etc.

Although I have lots of summery perfumes that I’ve been sporting over the years, I’ve been circulating three in particular that have been my summer crushes this past month.

Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs Mod Noir

This guy (C$110 at Sephora) came out in June of this year and is definitely a classic scent. This airy floral fragrance opens with gardenias, greens and creamy musks and is classified as bold, modern and unique.

The packaging is definitely the selling feature for me, as it’s housed in lacquered black and matte frosted glass; modern and minimalistic. Very simple, but yet attractive, much like Marc Jacobs’ line in general. This fragrance is definitely the most mature of the three and to me it bears resemblance to his last scent, Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream, as I find them to be very similar.

Vera Wang

Vera Wang Hippie Princess

If you are more into fruity and careless, try Vera Wang’s new addition to the Princess line, Hippie Princess (C$49/30ml).  Topnotes include red mango, white freesia, and apple blossom. It also has lotus flower, apricot nectar, jasmine petals, blonde woods, pink musk, and vanilla.

This is perfect for a beach day, a festival, or BBQ. It’s fruity and fresh, making it perfect for daytime or everyday wear.  Best of all, I love the heart-shaped bottle with the signature crown top, which you can double as a ring (which it also includes underneath the spray). Out of the three scents, this one is my favourite hands -own since you can wear it really for any occasion, plus the name is so summery.

KAty Perry

Katy Perry Mad Potion

If you are a fan of celebrity fragrances, this one is for you.

I’ve always had a penance for celebrity scents, so when I received Katy Perry’s new fragrance Mad Potion (released this month at Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada), I knew I would like it.  And then I smelled it and it was love at first whiff.

If you don’t like candy-sweet scents, then you probably won’t like this one.  Mad Potion is rich with vanillas from around the world, with a hint of amber and jasmine thrown in for good luck. Top notes include Tahitian vanilla orchid, fresh and crisp apple musk, and sweet white peony. The middle and bottle notes also contain more vanilla, such as Madagascar bourbon vanilla and Mexican vanilla bean absolute.

If you are a fan of Britney Spears’ Fantasy perfume, you will love this one as it’s very cotton candy sweet.  Definitely more of a younger scent.
