NOTD: Essie Fear or Desire

Looking for a bright orange to rock this summer?  Essie’s got the perfect one.

Fresh from their summer 2012 collection, Fear or Desire is a bright orange shade guaranteed to make your nails pop.  This is the first shade I tried from their new collection because when it comes down to it, I just have a soft spot for orange.  I love myself a bright colour and nothing is more bright that I can think of other than orange.  To me, this shade has more tangerine undertones but it’s really gorgeous when applied on.

I applied Seche Vite base coat underneath with OPI’s Top Coat on top.  I used two layers to get it opaque.  Like other Essie polishes that I have tried, they aren’t the best for long-lasting wear, with minor chipping after one day.  I didn’t mind though because I had all the other colours from the collection to try out as well and I’m quite impatient so I wanted to take it off anyways so I could try the other shades.

This colour really reminds me of either a parrot or a salsa; it’s a fun shade that is so perfect for summer.

Have you tried Essie’s Fear or Desire?  If so, what were your thoughts?

A different take on swimsuit shopping: Essie summer 2012 collection

Essie is really stepping up their game this season, first with their neon Poppy-razzi collection and now their summer 2012 line.  When I think of Essie I think of softer pastel colours, not bright, neon shades.  That all changed when I saw this line.

Essie’s summer 2012 collection consists of six bright, fun colours perfect for summer.  Inspired after finding the perfect swimsuit, I don’t think anyone will be shy about picking their favourite from this collection.  The line consists of two pinks, a copper/rose gold, a bright green, a vibrant orange, and a periwinkle blue with shimmer.

I absolutely love every shade in this collection and honestly had trouble deciding which colour to try first (if only I had six pairs of hands!).  I will be posting separate posts for all of these shades including swatches and thoughts so keep a look out for those!

May 2012 Topbox

Topbox has struck the ball out of the park with this month’s box.  I’m a very impatient person so when I started to see people posting on Facebook that they got their boxes of course I had to find some blogs to see what was in May’s box.  And boy was it a good one.

Here’s what I got:

  • Expressions bronzing powder brush (full size)
  • Deborah Lippmann nail lacquer in Whatever Lola Wants (full size)
  • COVER FX ClearPrep FX anti-shine primer (7 ml, full size retails for $39.00/30ml)
  • ORLANE Anagenese 25+ First Time-Fighting Care Eye Contour (2 ml, full size retails for $75.00/15ml)
  • A voucher for a free nail file from Holt Renfrew

When I saw that they threw in a Deborah Lippmann nail polish (and a full size, no less) I was uber excited.  The polish alone is worth C$20.  I honestly would have just been happy with the polish but then to throw in a full size makeup brush, an eye cream, and primer (which I can never have enough of), it just made the perfect box.  Ever. I’ll have to see if Holts has the nail file as the one in my city is tiny compared to the other ones.  I honestly would have just preferred if they threw in the nail file instead of going and getting it, I mean what if you don’t have a Holt Renfrew where you live?  I guess it’s only a nail file, but still…

Topbox retails for C$10 a month and unfortunately there is a huge waitlist to sign up.  When I first heard of Topbox back in November and saw that they gave away a Deborah Lippmann nail polish back then in that box I jumped at signing up.  I have been getting the boxes since March and have gotten excellent products each month (I was a little let down by last month’s box though).

I look forward to future boxes although I’m not sure how they are going to top this one.

Did you receive the May 2012 Topbox?  What were your opinions?
