Spring beauty wish list

wish list

I have been craving spring like no other.  With spring comes pastel colours and a fresh face.

Here’s what is on my wish list this season.

Essie Van D’Go – This came out in 2010 so I’m not sure if it’s still available. I’ll be checking eBay for this beaute.

OB for shu uemura Rouge Unlimited Supreme Shine Lipstick in Sakura Pink – I wish I had a shu counter near me, I love this colour!

butter LONDON in Fiver – My favourite colour for spring, I am obsessed with mint green.  I already have Essie’s Mint Candy Apple and I’m thinking this may be a really similar shade. I have been to two Bay stores to look for it but unfortunately they were sold out :(.

shu uemura whitefficient clear brightening gentle cleansing oil – I tried this stuff in Vancouver and oh my god it is amazing, it literally removes every bit of makeup. I was going to pick up a bottle but then I bought my McQueen scarf instead (this stuff is uber pricey).  It’s on my wish list next time I’m at Holts.

OCC Lip Tar in Digitalis – My signature shade, this lip tar is majorly pink.  I wish they carried it at my local Sephora in store.

Deborah Lippmann nail lacquer in Today Was a Fairytale – I wore this colour during the holiday season and it’s been on my wish list since.  It’s the prettiest silver glitter I have ever worn.  The only downside is that it chips quite easily.

Rimmel London ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal eyeliner in Nude – The perfect nude liner for the waterline, pop this bad boy on to brighten up your eyes.

What’s on your beauty wish list for spring?

Soft & gentle: Maybelline Color Whisper in Oh La Lilac

title

Riding on the wave of Revlon’s Lip Butters and L’Oreal Colour Riche Balms, Maybelline introduced their Color Whisper lip balm/lipstick hybrids earlier this year.

I have been a fan of the Revlon Lip Butters since they came out (along with millions of other people), and was curious about Maybelline’s version since I saw people on YouTube starting to chat about them a few months back.  Maybelline bills these as pure colour pigments suspended in a weightless gel with no heavy waxes or oils.  So it’s basically a sheer lipstick that works like a balm.

Since I have so many lip products already I was gonna pass because I didn’t feel like shelling out the $7.97 for one at Wal-Mart, but then Maybelline Canada’s Facebook page offered a dollar-off coupon for any Maybelline product, so of course, like the makeup hoarder that I am, I picked one up.

I swatched a few different colours in store and ended up getting number 90 Oh La Lilac, which looks like a purple in the tube but applies more like a lavender pink.  Some shades are more sheer than others but I feel like this one leaves me with the perfect amount of colour (I do have to apply this vigorously for the shade to show up though).

Alright, so thoughts… I love the colour and I love the way this feels on my lips, however, I personally don’t find that the product stays on for long at all. Compared to the Revlon Lip Butters it feels more thin and moisturizing, but I find the Revlon counterpart does last longer (it also seems thicker).  Also, my lips did feel a little parched once the product dried out; maybe it’s a way of telling me that I should keep applying it.

Swatch

Overall, if I had to choose between Maybelline’s version and Revlon’s I think I would still stick with Revlon’s Lip Butters, it’s a thicker product, gives you more colour, and not as drying after the fact.  Don’t get me wrong, I do like the Color Whisper I got, and I might pick up another colour, but I just wish these were a bit more long wearing; it’s a pain having to apply these so often.

Have you tried Maybelline’s Color Whispers?  What were your thoughts?

Custom Colour: OCC Lip Tars

title

Being a huge lipstick fan, I’m always one to try out new products and colours.  I have been familiar with Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (OCC) Lip Tars for a while now but they aren’t really the most accessible cosmetics line.  Anyways, Sephora started selling select colours of their extensive line of Lip Tars, so me being one to never miss the proverbial bandwagon, I picked a colour up.

From OCCmakeup.com:

A stunning new innovation in lip color, OCC Lip Tar combines the longevity of a lipstick, with the ease of application of a gloss. Goes on slick and moist, and dries down to a satin finish. Ultra-saturated in color, Lip Tar contains an unprecedented amount of pigment – a little goes a very, very long way! An intense yet featherweight layer of color that never looks or feels heavy. Meant to be mixed, Lip Tar comes in concise array of colors for a limitless selection of shades made by you! A simple, elegant formula that contains Hemp Oil, Peppermint Oil and Vitamin E, OCC Lip Tar feels as good on the lips as it looks!

The colour I picked up is Hush, a bridal neutral pink that leans more towards a nude.  I also tried on Anime, a hot pink, in store, but I have a few of those already, so I chose to skip it.  Plus Hush is more of an everyday colour (well, kinda, it would depend on your skin tone).

Like the directions say, you only need a drop of this stuff on the included brush because a little goes a long way.  The formulation isn’t thick at all and it sets quite quickly.  As for scent, it’s very minty, so it will make your mouth feel (and smell) fresh.  The colour does dry matte; however, as with most matte lipsticks I have tried, it leaves your lips feeling dry after continued use.  It’s because of that factor that I wouldn’t wear this everyday.  You can put a gloss over top though to add some moisture.

Another downside about this product is that it can get quite messy.  I keep it with the brush in the little Ziplock-esque pouch it came in, but after some uses the product gets all over the pouch (from the brush).  Lastly, I have found with Hush, because it’s a lighter colour, it doesn’t stay on for nearly as long as I thought it would. These are billed as being very long-wearing, which is probably true for some of the bolder colours (because they would be more pigmented, hence staining the lips), but because Hush is on the lighter side, I find I have to keep reapplying it (it does have some staying power, just not as much as I would like).

instructions

Overall, I actually really do love the product.  I like how what you see is what you get and Hush is definitely a beautiful colour.  I wish Sephora would carry the whole range because there are some fab colours in the line that I would love to try out, plus you can mix colours to create your own custom shade.  They are quite pricey at C$19, but I would say it’s worth it considering the amount of product you get (and the fact that you don’t need much of it).  This one Lip Tar will last me a few years for sure.
