Sparkly things: Glitz & glam for your nails, eyes, and cheeks

I don’t know about you, but once the holidays hit I get in the mood for some sparkle and shine.

I pull out all my glittery dresses (and maybe invest in a few new ones) and bust out more than a few sparkly makeup items as well.  Just like in fashion, the beauty world is also filled with tons of glitter and shine, and since it’s the best time to pack it on, you’ll have no shortage of places to wear it.

If you don’t have any sparkle yet in your makeup collection, or are looking for some new products to pick up for your holiday looks, then keep reading.

Marc Jacobs Beauty See-Qins Glam Glitter Eyeshadow

The best place to start with some sparkle is definitely on the eyes.

Marc Jacobs Beauty brought back their super holiday-appropriate See-Quins Glitter Glam Eyeshadows (C$37, currently on sale for C$22) this season in a few new shades.

This limited-edition loose eyeshadow gives you bold pigment with major sparkle. Available in six shades, open up the pot (housed with a grey sparkly lid) to reveal a demi-pressed pigment that allows you to really pack on the glitter for either a bold or subtle look.

I received a couple of these last year as well, and although the gold shade (Star Dust) is my favourite, the shades they sent me this year (Pop Rox and Glitter Rock) are super holiday appropriate as well and really helps to up and ante on any festive look.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Lipgloss

From the eyes to the lips, Marc Jacobs Beauty has you covered this season.

Pick up one of their new limited-edition holiday packaging of their Enamored Lip Hi-Shine Glosses (C$37, holiday shades are currently on sale for C$22), available in four different shades. This lip gloss gives you a sheer wash of colour and high shine thanks to its Triple Shine Complex, which blends together high-performance ingredients to give you a comfortable wear and shine, similar to 30 coats of lacquer.

I’m not usually a gloss girl since I find the texture too sticky on the lips, but I actually don’t mind these and absolutely love the holiday sparkle shades. My favourite is definitely To The Moon, a pink shimmer that looks amazing by itself or layered over another colour.

Buxom Gimmie Glitter Plumping Lip Gloss Set

Buxom Gimmie Glitter Plumping Lip Gloss Set

if you want a little plump with your gloss then take a look at the Buxom Gimme Glitter Plumping Lip Gloss set.

This set contains five deluxe sizes of their Full-On Plumping Lip Polishes, including three exclusive shades to this collection, Joy, Holly, and Eve. In case you haven’t tried their formula before, it contains a unique peptide complex that visibly plumps lips and leaves them moisturized thanks to Vitamins A & E. Lips are left hydrated, plumped, and shiny.

The shades in this set are Celeste (peachy-beige shimmer), Joy (golden nude), Holly (red), Clair (pinky-mauve with golden shimmer), and Eve (dark-nude shimmer).

Dior DiorShow Liquid Mono Limited-Edition Cream Eyeshadow

If you can’t gift a Dior bag this season, then their DiorShow Liquid Mono eyeshadows (C$36) are the next best thing.

These liquid eyeshadows, available in four sparkly shades, looks like a lipgloss at first glance, but they are actually eyeshadows that can double as liners that gives you impeccable shine and long-lasting wear.

Open up the packaging to reveal a wand that allows you to glide on the colour, or use a brush to apply it over the lids or as an eyeliner.  The texture is very light and feels weightless on the lids.

I received a couple colours from the line, Fireworks, a pink sparkle, and Silver Flake, a bright silver.  These were really impressive and I was very surprised when a lot of people asked me what eyeshadow I was wearing. I would say they were different from the Marc Jacobs Beauty glitter shadow I mentioned earlier.  These are very lightweight in texture and give you just enough sparkle to make it noticeable.

Glitter items for the holidays from Dior Beauty, Marc Jacobs Beauty, and Buxom

Now that we are in full-force holiday season (especially here in New York!), it’s time to get your glitter on.  If you aren’t a sparkly dress kind of gal then definitely look into makeup products instead.  It’ll bring a little festiveness to your look and make you very holiday appropriate.

Skin saviours: Holiday picks for skin, lips, and scents from Mary Kay Cosmetics

A great safe holiday present? Moisturizers!

You can really never have enough lotions, and since we are heading into the winter season, having a good one to keep all your limbs soft and smooth is really a much-needed necessity. Mary Kay Cosmetics has tons of different creams to gift this season, as well as so many pretty beauty and fragrance choices.

If you’re stumped at what to get a certain someone, then I totally got you. Keep reading…

Mary Kay dry feet socks and cream and lip liners

Mint Bliss Energizing Lotion for Feet & Legs and Holiday Socks

I don’t know about you, but my feet lately have been so dry and scaly. Last time I went for a pedicure I swore to myself that I would put lotion on my feet every night before bed. For the most part, I’ve actually kept at it, but if you have a friend that totally has dry feet too, then take a look at the Mint Bliss Energizing Lotion for Feet & Legs and the Holiday Socks (C$16).

The socks actually come free when you purchase the Mint Bliss Energizing Lotion this holiday season, which is targeted to help tired feet and legs. Apply this lotion to the feet and then slip on the socks for nourishing treatment.  The formula has a refreshing cooling mint feeling, which is so soothing after a long day on your toes.

Be Delighted Body Mousse

Housed in a special-edition holiday packaging, the Be Delighted Body Mousse (C$18) is a whipped body mousse that smells like candy and just melts into the skin. This is sure to be a crowd pleaser since the packaging is so cute and festive and it’s such a treat to apply to the skin.

Mary Kay Travel-Sized Perfumes

Pair the body mousse with one of the brand’s perfumes, housed in a travel-friendly vial (C$25 each). Available in three different scents, each vial is perfect to carry around in your bag for a quick pick me up throughout the day.

Cityscape: This perfume is inspired by the world’s most glamorous and sophisticated city landscapes and contains top notes of bergamot, apricot, and violet leaves; middle notes of Phantom orchid ScentTREK, and peony; and bottom notes of sandalwood, angelica, and amber.

Live Fearlessly: This energizing fragrance will give you a burst of confidence and contains top notes of Italian bergamot and ginger lush petals; middle notes of bold rose, lily of the valley, and orchid; and base notes of roasted tonic bean, cedar wood, Australian sandalwood, and vanilla musk.

Forever Diamonds: This perfume is perfect for the holidays since it’ll make you feel like a star. Top notes include sparkling golden peach, jasmine petals, and diamond orchid; middle notes are tuberose absolute, heliotrope, and apricot; and base notes are creamy vanilla bean and white amber.

Cityscape Silkening Dry Oil

Pair the Cityscape travel-sized perfume with their new Silkening Dry Oil (C$24) for the ultimate bath in fragrance.

This lightweight, quick-absorbing oil is the perfect addition to your holiday fragrance routine since it quickly absorbs into the skin, leaving a slight sheen and a wash of fragrance.

Mary Kay Cosmetics Mad About Masking set and mask brush

Mad About Masking Set and Silicone Mask Brush

For the skincare fanatic, the Mad About Masking Set (C$30) makes the perfect gift.

This collection contains four facial masks that come in little pods, meaning that you can gift this as is or split up amongst friends. Included in the set are the following masks:

  • Miss Pore-fect: A mask containing clay to leave the face looking matte and shine free.
  • Energy Queen: An uplifting mud mask that features Japanese green tea extract to boost your mood.
  • Lady Serenity: A soothing cream mask with aloe vera extra and provitamin B5 (panthenol).
  • Dewy Gal: A glowing, moisturizing mask, perfect for before a night out.  This mask contains hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and vitamin E.

Pair the mask collection with the brand’s Silicone Mask Brush (C$15), which gives you a mess-free mask application and less waste.  I love these brushes since it makes applying a clay or cream mask so much more hygienic and you’re not left with messy fingers full of product you could have used.

Mary Kay Cosmetics Holiday collection 2019 lip liners and lip kits

Ultra Stay Lip Lacquer

Finally, on the beauty side of things, take a look at their new Ultra Stay Lip Lacquers (C$47 each). This lip kit, available in three shades (Rose, Plum, and Cherry), contains a three-step system that delivers colour that does not budge… until you use the included remover to get it off at the end of the night.

These lip kits are unlike anything else I have ever seen.  First you apply the colour and wait for it to completely dry before applying the lip lacquer sealer, which adds some shine and a moisturized wear.  Now usually when you add a gloss of some sort over a matte liquid lipstick and then drink a cup of coffee, for example, you’ll get some transfer since the gloss breaks down the colour a bit.  These will not budge at all, which you’ll also notice on the applicator itself.  There was zero colour transfer on the white doe-foot brush, which is incredible.

At the end of the night when you want to get it off, use the lip lacquer remover and a tissue to wipe it all away.

Mary Kay Ultra Stay Lip Lacquer swatches

Like I said, these are definitely very cool, and I will note that the colour itself has a very unique formula.  It is very tacky when you first apply it, so I have to chill for awhile with my mouth open since otherwise it will get all patchy.  Mary Kay says that one coat is all you need, but since these are all bold colours, I did find I had to apply a few coats to make it opaque since the formula is very watery. I also want to note that it also smells similar to nail polish remover, so I’m not quite sure what is in the formula. Regardless, it’s a very cool product.

Pair the lip kit with the corresponding Lip Liner (C$16), which are available in a variety of different shades. These are a retractable pencil and just glides on your lips thanks to the creamy, soft formula.  I was actually really impressed with these and even if you aren’t picking up one of the lip kits, I would definitely look into getting one of the lip liners anyways.

There are so many awesome items from Mary Kay Cosmetics for the holidays this season.  Since the brand is available through dedicated sales reps, make sure you get your orders in early so they arrive by the holidays.

Is anything from Mary Kay on your wish list this year?

The gift we all want: Give the gift of an Outlet Collection of Winnipeg gift card this season

We’ve all been there. You think you found the perfect gift for someone and then as soon as they open it, they don’t have the same sparkle in their eyes that you did when you bought it for them.

I think we have all been the receiver or giver of a gift that just didn’t impress. For me personally when I want something I tend to just buy it myself, so I’m pretty hard to shop for.

With that being said, I’ll never forget the worst gift I ever got.

I believe it was actually a birthday present and I was a teenager. My mom handed me a wrapped box and I quickly unwrapped it with excitement to reveal an automatic card shuffler. Yes, that’s right, an automatic card shuffler… for someone who doesn’t even really play cards.

I guess I happened to mention in passing that the card shuffler looked cool when I was going through a catalogue and my mom took that as a sign that it would be a great gift for me. It will always go down as the worst present I have ever received (sorry mom!).

When it comes to gifts, it can be really tough to figure out what your receiver wants or needs. A gift that I have asked for a lot (as well as gifted a lot… especially to my mom of all people) is a gift card to the Outlet Collection of Winnipeg (OCW). OCW is located here in Winnipeg on Sterling Lyon Parkway and includes some of my favourite retailers like Off Saks Fifth Avenue, Dynamite, Call It Spring, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Kate Spade, and more. Best of all, their gift cards actually work at every Ivanhoe Cambridge mall across Canada, meaning that if you are travelling this season, you can use it at other malls, like the Premium Outlet Collection Edmonton International Airport (Edmonton), CrossIron Mills (Calgary), Metropolis at Metrotown (Vancouver), Vaughan Mills (Toronto), and more.

The gift cards are available in denominations between $25 and $1,000, and since it’s the holidays, I know that OCW has been offering some promos, so definitely make sure you check out their official site or their Instagram.

So, instead of trying to figure out what to get someone this season, just let them pick out something they really want. In case you don’t live in Winnipeg, or are too busy to pop by OCW, you can also order the gift cards through Shopping.ca, where they come housed in a stylish box which can be reused.

I still don’t know what I’m getting my mom for Hanukkah this year, but truthfully, it probably will be a OCW gift card since I know she loves getting them and it allows her to pick out a gift that she really wants… unlike the automatic card shuffler she got me years ago.

Do you plan on gifting a Outlet Collection of Winnipeg/Ivanhoe Cambridge gift card this season?
