Buildable volume: Lancome Hypnose Custom-Wear Volume Mascara

I’ve always had a thing for Lancome mascaras.

I remember even before I started blogging and basically the Sears Canada makeup department was my go-to for beauty needs, I always lusted after the Lancome mascaras. When they released the original Hypnose it totally changed the game and they have come out with so many different versions of the classic ever since then.

Although there are a few different versions of Hypnose mascaras at the moment, one that came out a few years back is the Hypnose Custom Volume Mascara. This mascara is a volumizing and buildable mascara that promises not to clump or flake and gives you up to six-times the volume of natural lashes.

What really makes this mascara stellar is the formula. It is enriched with pro-vitamin B5 and something called SoftSculpt, which coats every lash evenly without clumping. The texture has soft, emollient waxes and the brand’s unique PC/PA polymers, which leave eyelashes feeling soft, not hard, and also clump free.

The brush on this mascara has 1,000 sensor bristles which coat the lashes evenly and throughly, leaving lashes looking long, soft, and voluminous.

Lancome Custom Volume mascara

I’ve tried a few different Hypnose mascaras through the years and compared to a few other ones I’ve experienced in the past, I would say that this one is on the lighter side. My favourite is Hypnose Drama, and although that one gives you intense, dramatic lashes, this one is a little lighter and is a great everyday mascara.

At C$36 a pop, Lancome Hypnose Custom Volume is definitely is an investment, but I think it would be a great one to have in your collection if you are looking for something that you can transition from day to night.

I also want to note that it comes in three shades, black, brown, and extreme black, so you can definitely customize how you want your lashes to look.. no pun intended.

Glitter & glam: Sparkly things from Marc Jacobs Beauty

Anyone else feel kinda sad once Christmas is over?

Although it’s still Hanukkah, once December 25 is past us, I always feel so down since the Christmas season is so pretty. I love the lights, the music, the cheer, even the abundance of people doesn’t bother me too much (unless you’re in New York City and hitting up Fifth Avenue… way too many people). Thankfully the holidays aren’t completely over since now we have New Years to look forward to.

The holidays in general – pretty much all of December – are full of sparkle and shine, and whether you’re wearing some glitter on your eye, lips, or body, there is no shortage of great options out there. I have already chatted a bit about what Marc Jacobs Beauty offered for the holiday season and now that we are one day past Boxing Day, you can find all the items on sale!

For the eyes, the Marc Jacobs Beauty See-Quins Glam Glitter Eyeshadow (on sale for C$22) is a great option for adding glitter on the eyes. Open up the pot to find a pressed glitter shadow that is available in a few different shades.

This limited-edition loose eyeshadow gives you bold pigment with major sparkle. Available in six shades, open up the pot (housed with a grey sparkly lid) to reveal a demi-pressed pigment that allows you to really pack on the glitter for either a bold or subtle look.

I received a couple of these last year as well, and although the gold shade (Star Dust) is my favourite, the shades they sent me this year (Pop Rox and Glitter Rock) are super holiday appropriate as well and really helps to up the ante on any festive look.

For the lips, the Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Lip Hi-Shine Lip Gloss (on sale for C$22) is a great way to jazz up any lip look. These are part of their regular line, however, for the holidays they have come out with some limited-edition shades that are in special packaging.

Available in four different shades, this lip gloss gives you a sheer wash of colour and high shine thanks to its Triple Shine Complex, which blends together high-performance ingredients to give you a comfortable wear and shine, similar to 30 coats of lacquer.

I received two shades in this, Atomic (rose with pink glitter) and To The Moon (cool pink with blue glitter), and absolutely love To The Moon.  I love layering this gloss over a matte liquid lipstick to jazz up any shade and add a glossy finish over top. Also, I want to note that compared to other glosses, these aren’t too overly sticky and find them to be a comfortable wear.

Finally, to add a little shine to complement your makeup look, take a look at their O!Mega Glaze All-Over Foil Luminizer, which is available in two shades — Showstopper, a soft peachy pink; and Jet Girl, a golden copper. This is also available in their special 2019 holiday packaging and is a giant highlighter designed to give your skin instant reflective radiance.

The formula contains micro-fine, jet-milled powder that applies effortlessly on the skin, giving you a glow that will have people turning heads.  You can use this for both face and body (try applying it on the shoulders and collarbone for a pretty effect).

This highlighter retails for C$56, but is currently on sale on Sephora’s site for C$39, so if you’re thinking about gifting it or getting it, definitely hop on it!

I have previously chatted about all these Marc Jacobs Beauty items in previous posts, but if you are on the fence about getting them, you might be able to find them still in stores.  They are all on sale right now for some amazing prices and I highly recommend looking into adding them in your makeup collection, especially since New Years is on the horizon.

Did you get any Marc Jacobs Beauty holiday items this season? Picking up any?

I say this every year and I mean it ever year, The Body Shop is your go-to place for gifts that are sure to impress. I mean, who doesn’t need soaps, lotions, perfumes, skincare, etc.?

I saved this post for last since The Body Shop really is a great place for that person on your list that you have no clue what to get them. Well, if that’s the case then don’t worry, I got you and compiled a list a must-have holiday items that will sure to please even the hardest person to buy for.

Just keep reading…

Almond Milk & Honey Festive Picks

I’m all about gifting sets since it allows your gift receiver to try out the whole collection, and it gives them an assortment of items to use for different purposes.  The Body Shop has a ton of great gift sets this season that are filled with different items in a line and the Almond Milk and Honey Festive Picks set (on sale for C$21, regular C$28!) is no different.

This set is filled with five items from the Almond Milk and Honey collection, which is geared towards dry, sensitive skin.  Included in the gift box is the Shower Cream (250ml), Body Butter (50ml), Cleansing Bar (100g), Hand Cream (50ml) and bath lily. All of these products (aside from the bath lily obvi) are enriched with Community Trade organic almond milk from Spain and are such a joy to use, whether you are lathering them up, slathering them on, or just giving them a whiff.

Calming Camomile Cleanse Kit

For those who wear makeup everyday, the Calming Camomile Cleanse Kit (C$36) will be right up their alley.

This set opens up to three items that are perfect for washing away all that makeup at the end of the day. Included in here is the Camomile Gentle Eye Make Up Remover (250ml), Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter (90ml), and an Organic Muslin Cloth.

The Camomile cleanser is formulated to gently remove makeup (even the waterproof kind!) and is great for sensitive skin and suitable for contact wearers as well.  Start first with the makeup remover and then go in with the cleansing butter and massage into skin. Next, grab the cloth and run it under warm water and gently buff over the skin to remove your makeup.  Follow up with the rest of your skincare routine.

Warm Vanilla Festive Sack

This one is one of my favourites.

Open up with holiday-themed sack to find a variety of goodies, all in the brand’s Warm Vanilla scent (it’s to die for!). Each item in here is vegetarian and the range in general is special edition, so if you can still find it (I can’t seem to pull it up online), I would grab it!

Included in here is the Warm Vanilla Shower Gel (250ml), Warm Vanilla Body Butter (50ml), Warm Vanilla Hand Cream (30ml), Warm Vanilla Body Yogurt (200ml), and Warm Vanilla Body Scrub (50ml).  Each item is part of the Warm Vanilla collection for 2019 and has a delicious vanilla fragrance which is enriched with vanilla extract from Madagascar.

Merry Treats Body Butter Trio

So far all of these sets you can either gift together or split up, and another great one is the Merry Treats Body Butter Trio (C$15).

This trio of mini body butters is packed with three different scents to keep skin soft, smooth, and nourished all season long. Included in the trio is the Warm Vanilla Body Butter (50ml), Juicy Pear Body Butter (50ml) and Rich Plum Body Butter (50ml). Since these are smaller than their full-size versions, they are great stocking stuffer gifts or even great to toss into your bag for travel as well.

The Rocket Gift Set

For a super cute gift, take a look at the Rocket Gift Set (C$32).

This tin, which looks like Santa’s rocket, opens up to minis of The Body Shop’s most beloved products.  Included in here is the Strawberry Shower Gel (60ml), Coconut Shower Cream (60ml), Strawberry Bath Bomb (28g), Coconut Bath Bubble (28g), Strawberry Hand Cream (30ml), and Coconut Hand Cream (30ml).

I think this gift set would be really cute for someone who has small kids.  Gift them this reusable rocket tin and they can keep the goodies, whereas the kids can have the fun container. Total win win!

Bath Bomb Party Gift Set

For the bath lover, take a look at the Bath Bomb Party Gift Set.

This ball opens up to a variety of different bath treats and a loofa, which will give you a relaxing bath experience. Included in here is the Mango Bath Bomb (28g), Vanilla Delight Bath Bomb (28g), Strawberry Bath Bomb (28g), Green Tea Bath Bomb (28g), Candied Plum Bath Bomb (28g), Moringa Bath Bubble (28g), and a rainbow bath lily.

These are really cool since you just drop them into your tub and watch them fizzle and foam. This set is great for the bath lover or those looking to unwind after the rush of the holidays.

I can’t find this one in stock online, but check your local store to see if they still have it.

For some great stocking stuffers, The Body Shop also has you covered with smaller gift ideas that are some perfect options as well.

I’ve always been a fan of their headbands and in case you haven’t seen them, they offer up cute little themed ones that really put you in the spirit of the holidays. I have the bunny one from a few years ago and for the holidays they have released a special-edition reindeer version and Santa version.

The Reindeer Headband (on sale for C$3.50) is a soft headband that keeps the hair off your face while you cleanse, do your makeup, or apply a mask.  These are so cute to gift to friends and I cannot recommend these enough since they are the perfect little festive topper gift to give your bestie.

Why don’t you also toss in the Live Your Dreams sleeping mask (on sale for C$3.50) while you’re at it?

This mask is perfect for slumber parties and is the cutest little eye mask to wear for a night when you want to get a good night’s rest.

The Body Shop Live Your Dreams Sleeping Mask

The Body Shop also has a few other fun little stocking stuffer gift ideas like hair ties and barrettes, both of which have positive feminine messages on them.

Finally, if you are still stumped on what to get someone, you really can’t go wrong with lip balm.

I love gifting lip balms to my friends since I personally always have to have a lip balm on me at all times since my lips get dry easily. The Body Shop is always a great stop for these items since they always have the most perfect sets that you can split up.

The Born Lippy Festive Star (C$20) is a magic wand filled with five different flavours of their Born Lippy lip balms.

You can either gift this as is since it’s so cute, or open it up and split it up! Included in the set is the Born Lippy Lip Balms in Strawberry, Raspberry, and Watermelon (there are two of each in Strawberry and Raspberry). Each lip balm is 10ml and keep lips feeling soft, moisturized, and protected against the chilly winter weather.

If you’re still stumped, The Body Shop has a ton of other great gift options this season.  A lot of their items are actually on sale right now, so you can definitely score a great deal on a last-minute gift.

Will you be popping by The Body Shop today for any last-minute holiday gifts?
