Mix & match: Cheekbone Beauty Sustain Complexion Pencils
When it comes to makeup, there is no one-size-fits-all, especially when it comes to foundations.
There’s foundation, concealer, highlight, and bronzer, and all of these items help to create a flawless and sculpted complexion. Because of this process I was really intrigued to find out that Cheekbone Beauty recently introduced a line of complexion pencils to essentially custom tailor a flawless face.
Okay, say what?
The Sustain Complexion Pencils (C$24 each or purchase as a set for C$224, currently on sale for C$179). Is a range of nine creamy pencils that are aimed to blend perfectly with your skin tone. This thick pencil can be used as a highlighter, a contour, or a full face application. You can also use it to prime shadow, carve out brows, on-the-go touch ups, and so much more.
These are a totally new concept to me and although I was a little confused on how exactly to wear them, I quickly got the hang of it and loved the idea. Since it’s a pencil format, you can use these to strategically and meticulously apply the product, whether it might be in one area of the face or multiple areas (or even those small little areas that you may want to conceal or correct).
Since there are nine shades, these are pretty versatile in the shade range (plus you can mix and match to create custom colours as well. The shades vary from light to dark and include the following:
-
- Fair 1 – fair, porcelain with cool and pink undertone
- Fair 2 – fair, with ivory and neutral undertone
- Fair 3 – fair, warm ivory with orange undertone
- Medium 4 – medium, light tan with cool sand beige undertone
- Medium 5 – medium, light tan with neutral undertone
- Medium 6 – medium, tan with warm gold undertone
- Deep 7 – deep tan, with cool almond undertone
- Deep 8 – deep tan, with neutral chestnut undertone
- Deep 9 – deep tan, bronze with warm undertone
Cheekbone sent me all nine pencils to play around with, in addition to their pencil sharpener (a must for these since you will go through them quick; they are quite creamy), as well as their Makeup Sponge (C$18) to blend it all together with. Although you can purchase these pencils separately, if you want to use these as a full-face application, then I do recommend purchasing the set or purchasing a few of them. For instance, I like to use Fair 1 for concealer, under my contour, the bridge of my nose, and around the brow area; Fair 2 or Fair 3 for along my cheekbones, the chin area, and the forehead; and Deep 7 or 8 for my contour area. From there, I like to use their sponge (damp, of course) to blend it all together for a flawless complexion.
When you first apply these it can be a little scary, but I promise you, once you blend it all out, it’s such a pretty and natural look. Honestly, it’s a new concept to me to do my makeup like this but I love the idea of it. If this looks way too challenging for you, I would still recommend picking up a few pencils (especially the lighter or the darker ones) to use as a highlight or contour. They are also great to use as an eyeshadow base as well.
Also, I want to note that Cheekbone Beauty is a Canadian Indigenous female-owned brand and although you can purchase directly from the Cheekbone site, they will also be available for purchase soon on Sephora.ca. Love seeing these independent brands grow and be recognized by the giants like Sephora.
Please note, products provided by PR. All opinions are my own.
