For mom… Three gift ideas for Mother’s Day
It’s crazy to think that next week is the middle of May. I can still remember New Year’s Eve so clearly that it’s hard to believe that we are almost halfway through the year. With the middle of May comes Mother’s Day and I’ve always found that holiday to be so typical with the kinds of gifts you can buy. There’s flowers, chocolates, jewelry… usually the same kind of stuff every year.
Now if you like gifting perfumes and flowers, then maybe try switching it up this year! I came up with three products that are new and totally on trend for 2017 that you can gift your mom.
The Body Shop Drops of Light Liquid Peel and Eye Cream
I used to gift my mom skincare when I was younger since it seems like moms are always on the hunt for the fountain of youth. The Body Shop Drops of Light range is fantastic for adding some brightness back to your skin as it hydrates with marula oil from Namibia and contains Community Trade organic oil from Italy, which enriches the products with hydrating and smoothing properties.
The Drops of Light Pure Resurfacing Liquid Peel (C$25) contains transforming gel-to-peel technology that traps and gently peels off impurities and dead skin cells to unveil healthy-looking skin that feels resurfaced from first use. After using it a fair amount of times, skin will look more luminous and the texture will be more refined.
To go with the peel try the Pure Healthy Brightening Eye Cream from the same line (C$32), which helps to reduce puffiness, giving eyes a healthy-looking bright wide-awake appearance. The formula contains ash bark, which improves skin firmness and reduces undereye bags, as well as brightening dark shadows. It also has a slight tint to it, so you can see a reduction in dark circles after the first use.
Simons x Ruby Brown Coton Fragrance
I absolutely love the Canadian retailer Simons (even though we don’t have one here in Winnipeg), so I was naturally so excited for their fragrance launch.
Released last week, their first foray into cosmetics, Eau Contemporaine, an exclusive fragrance collection created in collaboration with Montreal fragrance designer Ruby Brown. There are three scents in the line, Soie (Silk), an opulent, floral, and woody scent with notes of grapefruit, rose, white tea, and bergamot; Coton (Cotton), a fresh scent with notes of mandarin oranges, violet leaves, and water jasmine; and Lin (Linen), a scrips, musky and airy scent with notes of bergamot, cyclamen, and lily of the valley.
The three scents are designed to complement Simons’ Contemporaine line, their in-house brand for the modern, sophisticated woman. All three scents are very mature and wear nicely. I particularly enjoy Coton since it’s so fresh and is the perfect spring.
Each fragrance retails for $50 each for 50 ml and are available at Simons stores or online at simons.ca.
Bleu Lavande Linen Water
This one is kinda random, but oh so useful. There’s candles and incents to help you relax, but has your mom ever tried linen water?
Spray this linen water on your pillow or sheets and drift off to sleep with the help of lavender. This stuff will not stain your sheets and leaves laundry smelling relaxing and fresh. It also contains no parabens, petroleum deriatives of synthetic scents. I love spraying this on just about anything since it smells so wonderfully.
You can find this spray online via Bleu Lavande’s site for $25.
Now if you’re from the Winnipeg area, I have a fun Mother’s Day giveaway for tickets for The Phantom of the Opera, playing at the Centennial Concert Hall August 23 to September 3.
Cameron Mackintosh’s spectacular production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera is bigger and better than ever before. This musical features a brilliant new scenic design by Paul Brown, Tony Award-winning original costume design by Maria Björnson, lighting design by Tony Award winner Paule Constable, new choreography by Scott Ambler, and a new staging by director Laurence Connor.
I’m giving away a pair of tickets for Mother’s Day, all I ask of you is to leave me a comment with why your mom, dad, or guardian, is “phantastic” . Contest closes May 12, 2017! *Must be age of majority, live in Winnipeg or travel to Winnipeg for the show.
In case you don’t win, you can purchase tickets through Ticketmaster: https://
