All set: Skindinavia Makeup Setting Spray

Skin title Someone is celebrating a milestone birthday this year.

Happy 10th anniversary Skindinavia.  Unfamiliar with the brand?  I bet you aren’t.  Skindinavia is the original authority on makeup finishing sprays.  Applied as a lightweight, breathable mist, Skandinavia makeup setting finishing sprays are the only product clinically proven to set liquid and powder makeup and hold cosmetics in place for 16 hours.

Setting sprays are all the rage nowadays.  I’ve been using them for years now when I first got my hands on Urban Decay All Nighter, which is actually made by Skindinavia. Since then I’ve tried a variety of others, include L’Oreal Paris (which is new), Make Up For Ever, and Victoria Secret Beauty. But it all started with Skindinavia. They were the first brand to use patented temperature-control technology to keep makeup from melting and becoming too shiny.  It’s also proven to keep colours vibrant for up to 16 hours.

The brand was founded in 2005 by cosmetic industry veteran Allen Goldman.  He launched the revolutionary Makeup Finishing Spray after two years of development. However, it’s the story of how the idea came about that’s the really interesting part though.

Goldman was inspired to create the setting spray in a Miami nightclub after being surrounded by melted makeup.  We’ve all been there ladies.  Shiny foundation, streaked bronzer, smudged eyeliner.  It’s not pretty. It’s because of these things that Goldman theorized that if he was able to prevent makeup from becoming overheated, he could solve the problem of a makeup meltdown (no pun intended).  He gained access to top national chemists and an interested ingredient; he observed a new temperature-control technology that could provide a time-released cooling property on the surface of the skin when needed. The product was tested under extreme conditions for makeup, such as NYC subways, Vegas showgirls performing in 110-degree heat, and Lady Gaga’s international tours.

before and after

Like I said, I’ve used many setting sprays, but there’s something about the way that the product is distributed that really sets this one apart.  The product is sprayed as a mist, so it’s very light on the face. I’ve had issues in the past with other setting sprays where I spray too much and then my makeup is wet and smudges, completely defeating the purpose and, to be honest, really annoying me in the process. Scandinavia nailed it with their packaging.

Do I think it makes my makeup look fresh for 16 hours?  No.  But, my makeup does look pretty good still. The before and after was done around 11 hours apart, after a full work day and an hour at the gym. Overall, my makeup held up pretty well.

Unfortunately, Skindinavia’s sprays aren’t that easy to by across in stores (unless you purchase the Urban Decay ones that are made by the brand).  However, you can order them online at Skindinavia.com.

Have you tried Skindinavia’s makeup setting sprays?  What were your thoughts?
