Pastel pretties: Mary Kay Light, Reinvented spring 2017 nail polishes

MJ title

I love pastel nail polish.  Soft shades just scream spring to me, so I was uber excited when I laid my eyes on the new Mary Kay Light, Reinvented polishes launching this month.

As part of their spring collection, which also consists of lip oils and eyeshadow palettes, there are four beautiful lacquers in this collection, all of which are stunning when applied.  There’s two pinks (a soft lavender and a purple), a coral, and the most beautiful and popping mint blue.

Polishes

When I first opened the boxes (this collection has the cutest packaging BTW), I liked the colours, but then I tried them and went ‘wow’. They are nice to look at, but once they are on the colour really starts to pop. My fave is New Blue since I die over mint colours, however, they are all so stunning, even the coral shade, which I find always looks better in the bottle than on my pale hands.

Brilliant Violet Luminois Mauve New blue Vivid Sunburst

Each shade went on quite opaque after one coat. In fact, all these swatches feature one coat. They are also all cremes, so there is no shimmer here!

These polishes retail for C$10 each through Mary Kay. Unfortunately you need to find a rep to get them, but that shouldn’t be too hard.

This collection launches February 16, so start making your list now!

Sweet and romantic: Must-have last-minute items for Valentine’s Day

Title

You have your dress picked out. You know what you’re doing, but do you have everything set to go in terms of beauty?

Whether you’re spending it with your BFF or BF, Valentine’s Day is a fun holiday. I mean, who doesn’t love dressing up? Even if you aren’t going to town with the outfit, I always make it a priority to look cute. Whether that means curled hair or freshly painted nails.

I took a look at my collection and come up a list of V-Day must-haves, whether that means they’re gift ideas or just some inspo for your makeup look. Hair The thing that my boyfriend first saw about me was my hair, so I always try to keep it in tip-top shape. I recently went blonder, which means that a purple shampoo will keep my colour looking nice and fresh. L’Oreal Professionnel Vitamino Color A-OX gives you colour radiance while nourishing, conditioning, and enhancing shine. I love the Soft Cleanser shampoo (which is purple); the Colour Radiance Protection and Perfecting Conditioner, which leaves your hair soft and detangled; and the Colour Radiance Protection and Perfecting Jelly Mask, which targets weakened and damaged areas of colored hair and wraps it into a lightweight film to protect against every day wear and tear.

If you want to get really festive, throw in some pink highlights courtesy of the new L’Oreal Paris Colorista Semi-Permanent Hair Colour in the colour pink. Available in a rainbow of shades, this hair colour washes out in four to eight washes. Perfume and lashes For scent, you’re going to want to wear something flirty and one of my favourite fragrance brands is Juicy Couture. I’ve blogged out some of their other scents, but when I saw the bottle of the new I Love Juicy Couture, with it’s leopard print and crystal detail, I just had to get my hands on it. Notes include taffy apple, tiger lily, and patchouli.  The stye is addictive, seductive and bold.

Any flirty look must be completed with a killer pair of false lashes. I blogged about Kiss a few times last week, but this eyelash brand just kills it when it comes to affordable faux lashes. Try their Looks So Natural line in the style Shy, for a natural, flirty look. Nails and lips Finally, lips and nails are two easy things to cover. A red or pink is always on trend for Valentine’s Day. I love 201 Fuchsia Pink by Make Up For Ever Artist Acrylip; it’s the most flattering Valentine’s Day shade and you won’t have to worry about it moving throughout the night.

For the nails, if you’re a natural kinda gal, try out OPI Infinite Shine in Sweet Heart for a subdued romantic pink. Bonus points for soft pinks, they also make your fingers look longer. If you would rather have longer, funkier nails, try out the ImPress One-Step Gel press-on nails.  Again, I blogged about these lashes week, but ImPress has so many cute shades out for Valentine’s Day that honestly could be worn year round as well (seriously, stock up, the designs are so cute).

I would love to know what you’re digging this year for V-Day in the comments below. Let me know your favourite lip colour or nail polish to rock on February 14.

Pink passion: A Valentine’s Day makeup look

Title You know when you see a new makeup collection and it just screams a certain season? Well, that’s what the Mary Kay Light, Reinvented Collection for spring 2017 did for me.

From the packaging to the products themselves, everything about this just says flowers blooming, snow melting and sun shining. The collection is comprised of nails polishes, lip oils, and eyeshadows.

Although I have a few other swatch posts coming up I just needed to dip my toes into this collection ASAP and do up a look that is so appropriate for both Valentine’s Day and spring. Products eyeshadows

Although everything in this collection is beyond gorgeous, there are two quads that I just about died over when I looked at them. Seriously, don’t these just scream spring?! Best of all, they are magnetic, meaning that you can easily add them to any Z Palette (I have an empty one burning a metaphoric hole in my makeup closet). These retail for C$26 each and are available in both cool and warm tones.

Since Valentine’s Day also means date night, I wanted to use these palettes to do a romantic look that can easily transcend from a day date to a night one. I did end up using both palettes, as well as an assortment of other favourite items from various brands to do this romantic look.

Final 2 close up Steps 1. Fill in your brows and then lay down an eyeshadow primer (I used Make Up For Ever Pro Sculpting Brow Palette and Maybelline Master Prime Long-Lasting Eyeshadow Primer). With the orange shade from the Mary Kay Spring 2017 Light, Reinvented Eye Palette in Sunlight and a fluffy crease brush, apply this lightly in the crease, acting as a transition shade.

2. With the same brush and the pink shade from the same quad, apply that lightly over the orange.

3. Grabbing the champagne colour, apply that over your lid area, fading it lightly into the crease colour.

4. With the shimmering champagne colour from the Glistening Horizon palette from the same collection, apply this over the other champagne on the lid to add some dimension and shine to the lids.

5. With the purple colour from the Glistening Horizon palette, apply this over the pink colour in the crease.

6. With a brown gel liner (like the Tartiest Gel Liner), apply this along your upper lash line, winging it out. Curl your lashes, then apply some mascara and some falsies. I used Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara and Kiss Products Ever EZ lashes.

7. For the lower lash line, apply a purple gel shadow, like Maybelline ColourTattoo Cream Eyeshadow Crayon in Lavish Lavender, then with the purple from the Glistening Horizon palette, apply that over top of the cream, then coat your lower lashes with mascara.

8. Apply all your face makeup. For foundation I used Marc Jacobs re(Marc)able foundation, Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Cream, Make Up For Ever HD powder, Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit, Marc Jacobs Air Blush Soft Glow Duo in Night Fever & Hot Stuff, Maybelline Strobing Liquid Illuminating Highlighter, and Make Up For Ever Pro Light Fusion Highlighter in  Golden Pink.

9. For the lips, I first outlined them using the Kylie Cosmetics Koko K liner, then applied the Tartiest Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in Bestie, with the Mary Kay Glossy Lip Oil in Sheer Pink over top. Final 1

Pair this look with some loose curls and you have a very V-Day or spring-appropriate look. I loved how this turned out since it was very soft and if you have blue or green eyes, then the pinks and purples really make them pop.

As for the eyeshadows, the pigmentation on these were great, the colour went on nicely and wasn’t too harsh. They also blended out incredibly well and layered perfectly over one another.

I’ll have reviews of the lip oils and nail polishes coming up next week. Let me know if you try this look out!
