Like, so extra: Tarte Tartiest Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint

Another day, another matte liquid lipstick.

Last year I got the chance to try out Tarte’s Tartiest Lip Paints, a matte liquid lipstick that rivalled it’s other beauty brand counterparts. As someone who loves the Kylie Cosmetics ones I was so excited to try Tarte’s formula, and after trying Bestie, a colour they previewed at Sephora late last year, I knew it was going to be an amazing product.

According to Tarte’s official site, there are 26 different shades available in this quick-dry, full-coverage transfer-proof liquid lipstick. There’s everything from nudes to reds to pinks to berries. Colour goes on opaque and dries down quickly to a matte finish which stays on your lips for hours at a time with minimal upkeep. The formula is super lightweight and colour doesn’t transfer once it’s set, which means that it won’t crack or feather out. Although this is a matte liquid lipstick, the wear is quite comfortable, meaning that it won’t dry your lips out (the worst feeling).

Tarte Tartiest Quick Dry Matte Lip Paints Tarte Tartiest Lip Paint wand The applicator is a pretty standard one for liquid lipsticks. There is a slight curved edge to it so you can use it to line your lips, ensuring an even application. I actually really like how these apply as they aren’t too wet when you get them on and they really do set quickly. I find them to last a lot longer than some of the other brands out there and when it comes to taking them off, it can be a little difficult since they set to the lips like glue.

I received six colours to try out, four nudes, a red, and a berry.

The six shades I got were OG, a greige; Exposed, a rosy nude; Low Key, a true nude; Obsessed; a mauve berry; Festival, a nude mauve; and Extra, a bright red. OG is my favourite hands-down, however, Exposed came in a close second. I have a million and one red lipsticks in my collection, so I wasn’t that excited to try out Extra, however, for a matte liquid lipstick, this one really does stay put, although I did have to touch up the inside area of my mouth after eating, but I feel like that’s quite standard when it comes to red.

On a scale of one to Kylie, how well do these hold up? I would give them a solid eight or nine, depending on the shade. I feel like the wear on these are very similar in that they aren’t drying (and removal can be a bitch). For C$24 each they are priced quite average for a matte liquid lipstick. If you love matte liquid lips (and right now who doesn’t?), then I would pick one or two of these up. There’s ore than enough shades that I’m sure you’ll find one you’re going to be obsessed with ;).

Unicorn tears: Tarte Cosmetics Make Believe in Yourself collection

Have you seen Tarte’s festival collection?

If you were obsessed with the Starbucks Unicorn frappucino, then you need to lay your eyes on Tarte’s Make Believe in Yourself collection. It seems like these magical creatures are literally everywhere, and since fun colours, rainbows, and festival makeup is so popular, it makes total sense that they are capitalizing on the trend.

There are eight products in this collection that range from a totally fabulous eyeshadow palette, makeup brushes that feature unicorn horns as the handle, a couple highlighters, a blue matte liquid lipstick, and more. The packaging features a kaleidoscope pattern that is so attractive that even if you don’t like the makeup product, you’re going to want these items in your collection anyways.

I received a few items from the collection, including the eye and cheek palette, the Spellbound Glow Rainbow highlighter, the Spellbound Sprinkle Face & Body Glitter, and the PRO Glow Liquid Highlighter in Stunner.

The Make Believe in Yourself Eye and Cheek Palette features 10 shadows, ranging from mattes to shimmer and glitters, and one giant cheek and eye highlight in the middle.  The thing that really makes this palette standout is definitely the glitter shadows, which apply more like a metallic than a true glitter, but once you swipe them on you’ll be in awe of the finish. It’s just so stunning and eye-catching once applied.

The Spellbound Glow Rainbow Highlighter is a highlight with four shimmering pastel shades that are gorgeous on their own or mixed together. Pair it with the Tartiest PRO Glow Liquid Highlighter in Stunner, which is a liquid highlight in a shimmering gold shade. Seriously when you layer the powder highlight overtop of the liquid, the shine is unreal.

If you need more glitter (who doesn’t?), the Spellbound Sprinkle Face & Body Glitter is microfine gold loose glitter with mineral pigments suitable for the face and eyes.

Since I’m kinda obsessed with this collection, and I still have a little bit of the L’Oreal Colorista purple in my hair, I had to come up with a fun look that really brought out the essence of the collection. Lots of glitter and lots of popping colour on the lids. I’m totally digging this look and will for sure be recreating it.

1. Lay down a foundation primer, like Tarte Poreless Mattifying Primer, then fill in your brows. I used Tarte Arch Architect Brow Pencil & Gel.

2. After applying a translucent eyeshadow primer, apply an orange shadow to your crease as your transition shade. I used Morphe eyeshadow in Glow For Me.

3. With the Tarte Clay Pot Waterproof Shadow Liner in Crystal Ball, a shimmering plum, apply that to your lids to act as a base for the powder shadow.

4. With a flat shader brush and Trance, a taupe slate, apply that on your lids.

5. Using the same brush, apply Fairy, the metallic lavender, on the outer corner of your eyes to darken it up.

6. With Crystal, the iridescent champagne, apply that to the centre of the lids to add a bit of shine to the middle.

7. For the crease, apply a matte brown to darken it up. I used Morphe Bridesmaid.

8. To highlight the brow bone, apply Believe, the middle highlight colour.

9. Skip the liner and curl your lashes and add some falsies. To add a bit more sparkle, lightly pat on some of the Tarte Spellbound Sprinkle Face & Body Glitter to the centre of the lids.

10. For the lower lash line, apply the Tarte Clay Pot in Prom Queen, the purple, to act as a base.

11. Layer Fairy overtop of the purple clay pot and then Believe in the inner corner of the eye to highlight. Finally, apply mascara to your lower lashes to finish up.

12. For the face, I applied NARS Sheer Glow with the Quickie Blending Sponge (which is seriously so bomb, it’s just like the Real Techniques one, just smaller).

13. Add some light to under the eyes with Tarte Shape Tape Concealer.

14. I did some light contouring using my Makeup Revolution Contour Palette, then applied Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Seduce to the cheeks.

15. For the highlight, I first used the Tartiest PRO Glow Liquid Highlighter in Stunner, then layered the Spellbound Glow Rainbow Highlighter over top to maximize the shine.

16. For the lips, I first used the Tartiest Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in Exposed, then OG over top.

Like I said, I am completely obsessed with how this look turned out. I did apply the shadows dry, meaning that I didn’t wet my brush, but I feel that if you sprayed your brush with some setting spray beforehand, the metallic colours would go on for much more metallic (not that they need it).

Do I have a favourite product from the bunch? It’s so hard to choose, but the eyeshadow palette is seriously so amazing. Just the formula alone of the colours make it so worth it. They remind me of the Stila Metallic Metals foiled eyeshadows, except in a more powder form. But then there’s the highlighters, which are also so impressive (if I had to choose between the powder and the liquid, I would pick the liquid hands down, it’s way more shiny). Heck, I was even impressed with the gold glitter even though I didn’t think I would have much use for it.

If you’re totally into the whole unicorn/magic/fun colour/sparkle trend that is so hot right now, then you definitely need to pick up a few items from this collection. Tarte also has a number of items that are part of the regular line, however are also offered in this limited edition packaging. And really though, who wouldn’t want their makeup collection to be home to some of these pretty products?

Have you picked up any items from the Tarte Make Believe in Yourself collection? What were your thoughts?

For mom… Three gift ideas for Mother’s Day

It’s crazy to think that next week is the middle of May. I can still remember New Year’s Eve so clearly that it’s hard to believe that we are almost halfway through the year. With the middle of May comes Mother’s Day and I’ve always found that holiday to be so typical with the kinds of gifts you can buy. There’s flowers, chocolates, jewelry… usually the same kind of stuff every year.

Now if you like gifting perfumes and flowers, then maybe try switching it up this year! I came up with three products that are new and totally on trend for 2017 that you can gift your mom.

The Body Shop Drops of Light Liquid Peel and Eye Cream

I used to gift my mom skincare when I was younger since it seems like moms are always on the hunt for the fountain of youth. The Body Shop Drops of Light range is fantastic for adding some brightness back to your skin as it hydrates with marula oil from Namibia and contains Community Trade organic oil from Italy, which enriches the products with hydrating and smoothing properties.

The Drops of Light Pure Resurfacing Liquid Peel (C$25) contains transforming gel-to-peel technology that traps and gently peels off impurities and dead skin cells to unveil healthy-looking skin that feels resurfaced from first use. After using it a fair amount of times, skin will look more luminous and the texture will be more refined.

To go with the peel try the Pure Healthy Brightening Eye Cream from the same line (C$32), which helps to reduce puffiness, giving eyes a healthy-looking bright wide-awake appearance. The formula contains ash bark, which improves skin firmness and reduces undereye bags, as well as brightening dark shadows. It also has a slight tint to it, so you can see a reduction in dark circles after the first use.

Simons x Ruby Brown Coton Fragrance

I absolutely love the Canadian retailer Simons (even though we don’t have one here in Winnipeg), so I was naturally so excited for their fragrance launch.

Released last week, their first foray into cosmetics, Eau Contemporaine, an exclusive fragrance collection created in collaboration with Montreal fragrance designer Ruby Brown. There are three scents in the line, Soie (Silk), an opulent, floral, and woody scent with notes of grapefruit, rose, white tea, and bergamot; Coton (Cotton), a fresh scent with notes of mandarin oranges, violet leaves, and water jasmine; and Lin (Linen), a scrips, musky and airy scent with notes of bergamot, cyclamen, and lily of the valley.

The three scents are designed to complement Simons’ Contemporaine line, their in-house brand for the modern, sophisticated woman. All three scents are very mature and wear nicely. I particularly enjoy Coton since it’s so fresh and is the perfect spring.

Each fragrance retails for $50 each for 50 ml and are available at Simons stores or online at simons.ca.

Bleu Lavande Linen Water

This one is kinda random, but oh so useful. There’s candles and incents to help you relax, but has your mom ever tried linen water?

Spray this linen water on your pillow or sheets and drift off to sleep with the help of lavender. This stuff will not stain your sheets and leaves laundry smelling relaxing and fresh. It also contains no parabens, petroleum deriatives of synthetic scents. I love spraying this on just about anything since it smells so wonderfully.

You can find this spray online via Bleu Lavande’s site for $25.

Now if you’re from the Winnipeg area, I have a fun Mother’s Day giveaway for tickets for The Phantom of the Opera, playing at the Centennial Concert Hall August 23 to September 3.

Cameron Mackintosh’s spectacular production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera is bigger and better than ever before. This musical features a brilliant new scenic design by Paul Brown, Tony Award-winning original costume design by Maria Björnson, lighting design by Tony Award winner Paule Constable, new choreography by Scott Ambler, and a new staging by director Laurence Connor.

I’m giving away a pair of tickets for Mother’s Day, all I ask of you is to leave me a comment with why your mom, dad, or guardian, is “phantastic” . Contest closes May 12, 2017! *Must be age of majority, live in Winnipeg or travel to Winnipeg for the show.

In case you don’t win, you can purchase tickets through Ticketmaster: https://http://www.ticketmaster.ca/venueartist/139402/1116096?brand=bac

What are you giving your mom this year for Mother’s Day?
