All of the lights: Silk’n releases Titan anti-aging device for tightening and lifting

When it comes to skincare, I don’t mess around.

Having a young-looking face is a priority for me. I’m 29, but I want to look like I’m 24, and for the most part, I think I’m doing a pretty good job (when I travel, I often get ID’d). In addition to a cleanser and moisturizer, I also always use a toner, serum, and eye cream every day and night, and I try to do a face mask every few weeks.

Sometimes though I like to take it up an extra notch and use light therapy that will help with tightening and lifting. Although I have tried some light therapy devices in the past, I’m excited to try out a device I just received to make my skin look more top notch.

I’ve used Silk’n products before and always enjoyed the technology from the brand. They have everything from at-home hair removal products to anti-cellulite devices, and since the brand is available in stores, they are quite easy to find (I’ve seen it at Shoppers Drug Mart and London Drugs). The Titan is one of the newest inventions and it helps to reverse the effects of gravity as we age.

Okay, so think of your face as a road. When you’re born, your face is like a freshly-paved road, it’s perfect, smooth, no signs of aging. As the road gets older, the pavement starts to break down and lines and cracks appear. Same with our faces, except those lines and cracks are wrinkles and lines. The Titan, which has been clinically tested and FDA cleared and Health Canada approved, safely tightens facial skin from the inside out, reducing wrinkles by repairing the collagen in our face (think of collagen as concrete or asphalt, that’s what breaks down in our skin). So how does it do this? The Titan harmonizes the benefits of three sources of energy: Bi-Polar RF energy, LED light energy and IR heat energy. The powerful combination of these three energy sources creates a safe, painless and proven result. After regular use, skin should appear more lifted, making you look younger and your skin looking more glowy.

Just like how Rome wasn’t built in a day, you won’t see results after one use. Like any other beauty device out there, these things take time. I’ll be testing this gadget out for the next 10 weeks and report back in the new year on my results.

The Collagen and Elastin Remodeling (CER) energy penetrates into the skin stimulating cell renewal, making your skin tight and supple again. Since I have pretty good skin already, I want to keep it that way, so I’ll be testing this device out focusing around my eye and mouth area. Silk’n mentions that there are five or six zones on the face (including the neck), and since they recommend to use the device for 10 to 15 minutes per zone twice a week, that’s a lot of time I would have to commit to using this. Instead, I’ll be picking a couple zones and switching off the days using the device. So for example, I’ll do the eye area Monday and Wednesdays and then the mouth area Tuesdays and Thursdays. Silk’n recommends using the Titan for two sessions a week for 10 weeks and after that, treat the area once every two weeks to maintain results.

Like I said, I have used similar devices before, but am really excited to try this one out since it comes with the Silk’n Slider Gel, which is required to carry out the treatments. It’s important to apply a thin layer of gel to the skin before the start of the treatment, since without it, the device will not work. The water-based product not only moisturizes, but also helps to guide the device and ensures that it moves easily over the skin and prevents it from overheating and reddening (although I will say that, having used other devices, a little redness is totally normal).

I’ll be starting the treatments this week and sharing my experiences with using the device in the new year, so stay tuned for my final thoughts and after photos. If you have used the Titan please let me know in the comments below, I would love to hear your experiences with the device.

Please note, I am working with Silk’n on this campaign promoting the Titan. All opinions are my own.

Blown away: Chicago travel diary

I’ve been to a handful of major cities across the U.S. and the world, but for some reason I’ve never felt the urge to go to Chicago. Considering how close it is to Winnipeg (about a 14-hour drive, or a hour and 40 minute flight), it’s never been on my radar of places I really wanted to go to (farther-away places always took priority and I just assumed I would make it down there one day).

Anyways, since my boyfriend had some work stuff going on in the Windy City this past weekend, I figured it was a great a time as any to fly down and make a weekend of it. Since Winnipeg flies direct courtesy of United Airlines, I flew down Friday night and stayed until Sunday evening.

When we got in we grabbed a Lyft downtown to check in at the W Hotel Lakeshore, which is located right next to Lake Michigan with views of the Navy Pier. Since I’m a W Hotels freak, I usually look into staying there first, and thankfully, thanks to a promo on Hotels.com, our stay ended up coming to C$450 for the two nights (which is a total steal for a W Hotel). If you’ve never stayed at a W before, expect uber-trendy accommodations, and wonderful amenities like Bliss body products in the room, a comfy bed, and soft robes.

There are actually two W Hotels in Chicago, the other one located midtown (it was closer to the Willis Tower), however, since it was my first time there, I Googled which one was closest to the Magnificent Mile, and the W Lakeshore won out being about a 10-minute walk from the famous shopping street.

Aside from shopping down Michigan Avenue (which I didn’t do a ton of since the Canadian dollar is still weak – I did buy a shirt at Nordstrom though), we also visited the Bean in Millennium Park (#basic), grabbed a drink in the Signature Room in the John Hancock Building, took some selfies on The Ledge in the Willis tower, ate some amazing food at Michelin star restaurants (Roister and Boka – highly recommend), and just walked around the streets of Chicago.  Oh, and of course we also got late-night Chicago deep dish at Pizzaria Due (we tried Uno’s – the original Chicago deep dish – but it was closed by the time we got there. Pizzaria Due, which is by the same people is kitty corner and open until 1:30 am).

Although it was a little chillier than expected (thankfully I got a spray tan before the trip, courtesy of Tan on the Run Winnipeg, which had me looking warmer than I felt), I had such an amazing 48 hours in Chicago. With it being so close and convenient, I definitely want to go back and see some of the museums the city has to offer, as well as take part in one of those architecture boat cruises (the lake and rivers were sooo blue – totally not like the water we have here in Winnipeg, which literally translates to “muddy waters”).

Enjoy the photos and let me know your favourite Chicago spots!

Long wear and lightweight: Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Foundation

I used to be a Laura Mercier foundation diehard. Way back in my early blogging days I was obsessed with the brand’s Silk Creme foundation. In fact, although I haven’t used it in years, I would still recommend it.  The problem is, I have so many foundations nowadays that there really isn’t a need to pick up a new bottle of it (I know, it’s a good problem to have).

Anyways, although Silk Creme is still near and dear to my heart, when I saw the brand came out with a new foundation, I was so excited to try it.  The Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Foundation is a 15-hour, long-wearing foundation that is oil free and transfer resistant. The formula dries down to a matte finish and is weightless to wear. Like its predecessor, it’s a medium-to-full coverage foundation.

Available in 20 different shades, Flawless Fusion is formulated with Skin Fusion technology to seal the product into place for 15 hours of comfortable wear that won’t transfer, meaning that you can sweat in it, you can be outside in the heat with it, and you can even go swimming with it on. Those are some pretty high claims.

Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Foundation

I got the colour 1W1 Ivory, which is perfect for my pale winter skin. The product blends out nicely and settles into the skin quickly as well. This foundation contains coated pigments that glide on your skin, making it totally buildable, so you can have either a medium coverage or a full one. It dries down into a matte finish, which I’m totally into at the moment, but it doesn’t make your skin look dull at all. The coverage is pretty nice, which I was surprised about since it is so lightweight in feel; it totally feels like I’m wearing a BB cream or a light coverage foundation. I also want to note that the colour you see is the colour you get, in that it didn’t oxidize on my skin (I think we’ve all had that dreaded moment when you walk out of the bathroom light and your neck is paler than your face).

Laura Mercier says that this foundation is ideal for all skin types, especially normal to oily, and for my normal skin I found it to be a comfortable wear. At a price tag of C$59, I expect this to wear for a full workday, and I think it certainly did so. I’ve also worn it in fitness classes and would say it holds up really well. To me, this is more of a daytime foundation since it’s lightweight in texture. It would also be perfect for those summer months when you don’t want that feeling of makeup on your face when it’s sizzling hot outside.

So is it better than Silk Creme? I do have to say that I like Silk Creme more, however, Silk Creme is more of a nighttime foundation and this one would be one I would wear during the day. Silk Creme is a little heavier as well, so really it depends on what you like most when you’re looking for a new foundation. Lightweight? Full coverage? etc. etc.

I would recommend checking this one out as like I said, it does give you a long wear time and it’s incredibly comfortable on the skin. Plus, I’ve always been a fan of the Laura Mercier shade range and the fact that she offers so many different colours.

Have you tried the Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Foundation?

Please note, I received this product for review. All opinions are my own.
