A thin line: Mary Kay Cosmetics new brow items

I love trying out brow products since I find they either work great for me or they don’t.

Since I recently ran out of my beloved Maybelline Total Temptation Eyebrow Definer, I have been on the hunt for something new. Although I would like to keep that item in my collection forever, I’m open to trying out new products since you never know what will blow you away next. Mary Kay Cosmetics recently sent over their new #perfectbrows products, which will be released later this month, and I couldn’t wait to dive in.

Composed to two products, a liner and a tint, both these items, either used together or separately, will fill in your brows and make them look flawless. The brand was kind to send me all the shades, so I quickly went to work to find my perfect colour and have been using them ever since.

Mary Kay Cosmetics Precision Brow Liner

The Precision Brow Liner (C$16) is a retractable, no-sharpening micro-tip liner that defines and fills in the brows. Since the tip is so small, it really allows you to customize your brows with hair-like precision.  Available in five shades, blond, dark blonde, brunette, dark brunette, and black brown, you can find your perfect colour by going a shade lighter than your natural brow hair. I’ve been using the colour brunette, however, dark brunette also works great for me since my brows are so dark.

When I first swatched this liner to begin with I wasn’t impressed with the texture. The Maybelline liner is creamy, so I wanted something similar to that. Once I actually used this on my brows though, I felt that it gave me lots of precision and the colour really did come through when used on the face. My only qualm about this product is the fact that it doesn’t have a spoolie on the other end. I feel that all brow products should have this, but instead Mary Kay recommends their eyebrow/eyeliner brush. I would rather the brand up the price a little more (maybe round it off to an even $20?) and offer the spoolie, as opposed to carrying around another brush; it just isn’t that convenient.

Mary Kay Cosmetics Volumizing Brow Tint

Moving on, the Mary Kay Volumizing Brow Tint (C$16) is a gel similar to Glossier’s Boy Brow or Benefit’s Gimme Brow. The product opens up to the tiniest of spoolies which apply microscopic fibres that cling to your existing brow hairs, giving you the illusion of a thicker brow. Mary Kay says that this life-proof formula has a flexible hold that helps set brows so they won’t budge, no matter that you’re doing.

This product comes in four shades, blonde, dark blonde, brunette, and dark brunette. This time around, I found brunette to be a little too dirty blonde for my brow hairs, so I went with dark brunette.  I really do like this product and find it to be a little more pigmented than its competitors.  It also helps to seal in your brow hairs, so they aren’t budging.

I really do like these new brow products, and as I mentioned, I have used both either together or separately. I like using both at the same time when I’m going out, whereas an everyday makeup look is just suitable for the pencil. The price point on these are also really good, considering that I find that Mary Kay products tend to be on the pricier side of things.

Before and after using Mary Kay Cosmetics Precision Brow Pencil and Volumizing Brow Tint

These brow products are available starting August 16, so I would definitely look into purchasing them if you’re in the market for some new brow items.

Unbeatable: Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Pro Filt’r Amplifying Primer and Flyliner

I have yet to try anything from Fenty Beauty by Rihanna.

Okay, so that’s technically a lie since I literally just tried stuff from the brand. But the point I’m trying to get across here is that considering how much makeup I own, I’m very new to Rihanna’s makeup line.

Now don’t get my wrong, it’s not that I didn’t want to try anything, but since I own like 10 million of every makeup product there is, I just didn’t feel the need to buy anything.  There’s also the fact that it’s a makeup line owned by a celebrity. Although these lines are currently killing it in the makeup game, I’ve always found them to be very short term in that they stick around for a few years and then fade into oblivion when the artist moves onto something else.

Well, I hope that Rihanna never stops caring since her makeup line is bomb.

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Amplifying Primer and Flyliner

New to the line is the Moroccan Spice collection, which officially launched in early July and consists of five items: an eyeshadow palette, an eyeshadow primer, an eyeliner, and two brushes. This collection was inspired by the pink and gold sands of the Sahara and the metallic blues of Morocco. Although I didn’t get the stunning eyeshadow palette, the brand was super kind and sent over the eyeshadow primer and the eyeliner.

The Pro Filt’r Amplifying Eye Primer is a neutral pink-toned primer that boosts colour, extends wear, and is weightless, smoothing, and creaseproof. The product goes on super creamy and blends out to a neutral colour that is perfect for an eyeshadow base.  The applicator makes it super easy to apply the product on your eyes and I usually just use my finger to blend it all out.

I’m usually not that picky when it comes to eyeshadow primers, but this one is seriously one of the best I have ever used.  There is a noticeable difference when you even apply the colour to your lids. In the photos below, I only applied the product to my left eye and even the way the shadows felt as they went on was different compared to the lid without it.  With this primer, the shadows stick on the lids (even through a workout and a shower), and the colour appears more vibrant.

Speaking of staying all day, the Flyliner Longwear Liquid Eyeliner is also no joke. This liquid eyeliner didn’t excite me at first since I have a million liquid eyeliners already.  Well, this one literally does not move. Again, wearing this throughout a workout (a sweaty spin class, at that) and a shower, I was shocked to find it still perfect on my eyelids. This eyeliner, available in one shade – ‘Cause I’m Black – is a super saturated liquid pen liner that paints the colour on deep and doesn’t budge.

The pen of the liner itself is a triangle shape, which makes it easy to hold.  The super-flex tip provides a smooth line that doesn’t dry out or skip, and delivers opaque colour for the most dramatic look.

Fenty Beauty Flyliner in Cause I'm Black

Overall, aside from the deep black colour this gives you, I do find it to be like other eyeliners. The real wow factor is the staying power. I still can’t get over how well this holds up. Seriously, like all my makeup will be gone, but with both the Pro Filt’r and the Flyliner, the eye makeup is perfect.

I really hope that Fenty Beauty comes out with more colours in the Flyliner since it’s such an amazing product. Also, the prices on these items aren’t too bad either, C$25 for the eyeliner and C$28 for the eye primer, which is amazing compared to similar products out there.

In the photos above, I have both the primer and eyeliner on the left eye.  The top one was taken right after I did my makeup at around 8:15 a.m., and the second one was taken at 7 p.m. after a day at work and then a step class (lots of sweating). As you can see, the products on the left eye are still flawless, whereas, although there is still shadow and liner on the right eye, it’s not as vibrant.

I mean, at this point I don’t have to spell it out for you, but I absolutely recommend these products, especially for summer time when you’ll need your makeup to stick the most. Fenty Beauty is exclusive to Sephora, so make sure you pop in and try them out yourself.  As for actually removing the product, don’t worry, a little micellar solution ended up taking it all off, so it wasn’t that hard to remove ;).

Have you tried any items from Fenty Beauty? What are your thoughts?

Please note, I was sent these products from PR. All opinions are my own.

A girl’s getaway: A trip to The June Motel in Prince Edward County with the 2018 Ford Escape

Last year, one of my besties sent me a link to an article about The June Motel in Prince Edward County.  Granted that I’m from Manitoba, I didn’t actually know much about that area of Ontario other than the fact that it’s one of Canada’s largest wine regions, but that’s about it. After checking out the photos of the motel, we quickly began to plan our trip there (#doitforthegram).

In October 2017 we ended up booking two weeknights right before Canada Day long weekend, where we would drive out to The June, spend a few nights there before heading back to Toronto for the weekend. Well, seven months flew by and before we knew it, our trip was coming up fast.  We flew into Toronto Pearson International Airport and since we had to drive approximately two and a bit hours to Picton, Ontario, we needed a car to actually get there. Thankfully, Ford Canada was so kind to lend us the 2018 Escape to make the journey.

Shortly after touching down we got the car, a beautiful blue Escape Titanium, loaded up our bags, and made the journey down on those crazy-busy Ontario highways. I’ve driven the Escape a number of times and it’s definitely one of my favourite SUVs that Ford offers, for both the ease of driving and the size of the car itself.

The Ford Escape, which starts at just over C$23,000, was a breeze to drive, thanks to its available intelligent four-wheel-drive system that continuously monitors traction and road conditions every 16 milliseconds. It actually transfers torque from the front wheels to the rear ones as needed to give you great handling and traction on the road.  Since we were highway driving, the lane-keeping system was amazing, as it alerted us of unintentional lane drifting via the steering wheel (it would vibrate). The adaptive cruise control was also handy since it allowed us to keep to the speed limit, and if the car ahead of us slowed down, so would the Escape.

Since there was three of us girls, we needed all the room we could get.  Although we didn’t need to fold down the seats, the rear back ones do go down for a flat load surface and tons of cargo space. For when we were actually loading up our luggage, the foot-activated hands-free liftgate was super helpful as all you had to do was wave your foot under the car and the trunk would open up.

The drive there was a breeze since we could plug in our iPhones and CarPlay and Apple Maps guided us straight to the motel.  The multi-function centre console with media bin was also really helpful since it featured two USB ports, which for three girls going on a road trip to take photos for Instagram, the more USB ports the better (especially since the driver’s phone was plugged in for the GPS).

Like I said, I have driven the Ford Escape a few times and it’s been a favourite of mine for a long time since the size isn’t huge and it certainly packs a punch (plus, the price on it can’t be beat for an SUV). Considering that we booked the trip to go to The June and check out the area (which was awesome by the way, so many cute shops!), it was really fun getting to drive the vehicle somewhere else aside from Manitoba (Ontario highways a little more intense than the ones we have here at home). The Ford Escape allowed us to get there safely and efficiently.  Also, I want to mention that the gas mileage on it was awesome. We didn’t have to fill up until we started to head back, and even then, the cost of gas wasn’t that bad (in total, it cost us $80 — $30 before we left Picton and then $50 when we got back to Toronto before dropping off the car).

As for The June itself, you may have seen this cute Insta-worthy motel all over your feeds and I have to say it’s definitely worth the hype. We wanted to take photos of literally everything. We booked the Rose suite, which had a queen-sized bed and bunk beds, as well as a couch.  The ladies that opened up the motel really thought of every detail and if you are lucky enough to snag a night there, make sure your phone and camera is charged since everywhere you turn you’ll want to take pics.

We also journeyed around the area as well since Prince Edward County consists of a bunch of small towns.  There was this amazing ice cream place called Slickers that my friend and I were dying over (they have this unique campfire ice cream which tastes like a campfire – super smoky, but delish!). We also went to a few amazing food spots, including the Drake Devonshire, which is another hotel there which I totally want to stay at as well.

I want to give a huge thanks to Ford Canada for lending us the Ford Escape for our little Ontario road trip. We had a blast driving the vehicle and exploring the area. Make sure you check out my Instagram account as I just posted a new IGTV video which features the 2018 Ford Escape.

Have you driven the Ford Escape? What’s your favourite road trip car?

Please note, this post is not sponsored, however, Ford Canada did lend me the 2018 Ford Escape for the trip.
