In paradise: Almay Lip Vibes collection review and swatches

Already planning your winter vacay? Then don’t forget to add one (or five) of the new Almay Lip Vibes lipsticks to your packing list!

Available in 12 fun shades (C$9.99 each), these new lipsticks deliver opaque moisturizing colour in one swipe. Perhaps the best part of these lipsticks though is the packaging, as it features fun tropical-themed motifs. Trust me, you’ll want to pull these out as much as possible since every shade is so freaking cute.

Almay Lip Vibes lipsticks

From hot pink to nude to red and everything in between, these lipsticks are available in three finishes, matte, cream, and shimmer topper.  The wear on these is comfortable and doesn’t feel sticky at all. My favourite part is that is gives you beautiful colour and feels heavenly on the lips.

These lipsticks are formulated with vitamins E & C, as well as shea butter. To be honest though, my favourite part of these is definitely the packaging. As someone who went through a palm leaf print phase, when I opened these, I just about died at how cute they are all.  In fact, I was quite surprised Almay went with such a fun packaging since I typically find the brand to be a little more mature, so I absolutely love how they had a little fun with these (and definitely goes to show that they are trying to appeal to a younger generation).

Almay Lip Vibes collection

I highly recommend picking up a couple of shades (perhaps the nude ones for everyday wear), since the colour is so comfortable and it doesn’t bleed or feather. Plus, you’ll definitely want to throw these in your bag for a little pick me up, both in colour and they way it looks.

I also want to add that I love the colour range that Almay chose for this line. I think there’s 24 shades in the U.S., but here in Canada there are 12 that range from nudes to baby pinks, oranges, violets, reds, browns, pretty much any shade that you can think of.

This line will definitely take you from the boardroom to the beach in a flash.

Also, if you are interested in picking up a few shades, I’m currently giving away the whole collection to one lucky Canadian follower on my Instagram. Head over here to enter!

Are you planning on picking up any shades from the Almay Lip Vibes line?

Last chance! Drugstore picks for last-minute gift ideas

You’re officially down to the wire and still need to pick up a couple more gifts for friends or loved ones? Don’t worry, I got you ;). It may be too late to place an online order, but there are so many great ideas found locally at the drugstore (maybe you can pick these up while you’re grabbing some last-minute food items as well).

I won’t keep you for long since I know you have to go run out before the shops close, so here are my top picks for last-minute beauty gifts.

EcoTools Start the Day Beautiful, Real Techniques Sponge and Holder, 7th Heaven Coconut + Clay Peel Off mask

EcoTools Start the Day Beautiful Brush Set

Brushes are always a great idea, but can often be expensive. They are a necessity for makeup as you could have the best products, but without the right brush, you’re not going to do that makeup item justice.

EcoTools is a great affordable option for those on a budget (or a great gift idea). This five-piece set (C$18.97) contains everyday brushes that your recipient will definitely reach for all the time, all housed in a handy storage tray.  Included in the set is an angled foundation brush, a blurring brush, a defined crease brush, an angled liner, and a full blush brush.  EcoTools’ brushes are cruelty free, made from recycled materials, tree free (packaging is made from 100 per cent tree-free paper), and the brush handles are made from recycled bamboo, so you’ll feel good gifting these beauties.

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge + Travel Sponge Case

Real Techniques’ sponges are one of the best ones out there in my opinion, and best of all, they cost about a fifth the price of a Beauty Blender.

If your recipient hasn’t tried their sponges before, or if they love them, then take a look at this set, which includes one of their original orange sponges, plus a travel case to store it in (C$14.97).

This sponge features an angled tip on one end to fit the contours of your face, leaving you with a flawless finish. Don’t forget to wet it first, and then once you’re done, store it in the orange case to keep it clean.

Real Techniques Makeup Brush Holder

Real Techniques Makeup Brush Holder

Have a friend that doesn’t have a lot of real estate on their counter for brushes? Then this nifty holder from Real Techniques will come in handy!

This brush holder has a Miracle Cling Technology back, where it securely clings to glossy bathroom surfaces like glass, mirrors, marble, flat shiny tiles, and laminate with no residue. Just peel off the back and stick!

If your recipient is a travel bug, they could also bring this with them and use it at hotels to save counter space.

7th Heaven Face Masks

A face mask always makes a great gift idea for a stocking stuffer.

I love this Coconut + Clay Peel Off Mask, which has the cleansing benefits of a clay mask with the pore-refining perks of a peel off. It also has coconut oil and seaweed to hydrate and sooth skin. Best of all, for only C$1.99 these won’t break your holiday budget.

Real Technique sponge and case set and Mesmoreyes lashes

Mesmoreyes Lashes

If you are completely stumped on a gift, then lashes are also a great idea, since who doesn’t love a new pair of false lashes?

I am new to this brand, but these pair of lashes by Mesmoreyes are incredibly flattering and natural-looking on the eyes.  These lashes in the style #304 are a wispy lash that will work well with almond-shaped, moonlid, and round eye shapes. The brand categorizes their lashes by day, play, and night, so there’s a lash for everyone and every occasion.

Any of these items would be great options as last-minute gifts, especially stocking stuffers. If you’re at the store today, then make sure you pop by the beauty department and pick up some of these goodies.

Do you still have to shop for holiday gifts?

Celestial beauty: Star-studded picks from Bare Minerals

Looking for clean beauty gifts this holiday season? Don’t worry, I have you covered.

Bare Minerals has been around since 1995 when they launched their iconic mineral foundation. In fact, this foundation, which is a powder that you apply with a brush, was one of my very first luxury foundations. Although I haven’t dabbled in the brand too much since that time so many years ago, it’s always been on my radar and I love seeing what they release every season.

Since this is a more prestige brand (you can find it at Sephora), if you are hard pressed in finding beauty products for that friend who only uses clean beauty, then Bare Minerals is a great option to look into.

Here are my top picks…

Bare Minerals Original Foundation limited edition holiday set

If your friend has never tried Bare Minerals Loose Powder Foundation, then now is a great time. Special for the holidays, this limited-edition set ($45, valued at $69), available in seven shades, includes a large collector’s jar of the Original Foundation with rose gold detailing, along with a celestial-themed charm bracelet.

The Original Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15 is made with only five ingredients and provides a rich, creamy coverage while promoting clearer, healthy-looking skin. You apply it by shaking the foundation into the lid, then swirl your brush in the lid and buff it on the skin.  You are left with a beautiful finish that is natural, but medium coverage.  It lasts for eight hours and you can totally customize the amount of coverage you desire.

If you have a friend that is already a fan of this foundation, then this is the perfect gift since this jar contains more product then what you typically find in stores. I believe that it is sold out online at Sephora, but I have seen it in my local store.

Bare Minerals Northern Lights Rose Gold Makeup Palette

If you are looking for an awesome small colour gift, then take a look at the Northern Lights Rose Gold Makeup Palette ($12, valued at $30), which includes two eyeshadows and a blush.

This palette has neutral rose gold shades so it’s perfect for pretty much any skin tone. There is a GEN NUDE Blush in the colour Pink Me Up, a medium nude pink with gold pearl, and two GEN NUDE eyeshadows in the shades Anticipation (metallic radiant rose) and Woo Is Me (shimmer apricot pink).

This palette is great to toss in your bag for travel or just to carry with you on the go.  On the front is features a clear cover with confetti in it to make it extra festive.

Finally, for the lips, Bare Minerals has a ton of different lip sets available. I really love the Lunar Light Lip Duo, which features two full-size lip products.

Available in a beautiful mauve shade, this set consists of a GEN NUDE Matte Liquid Lipcolour in the colour XYZ, as well as a GEN NUDE Radiant Lipstick in the shade Sugar. The liquid lip colour delivers transfer-resistant colour that is a velvet finish. The wear is comfortable and moisturizing on the lips.  The lipstick is creamy and is full of moisturizing ingredients so your lips will never feel dry.  Both of them are long wearing and are a flattering pink mauve shade.

Bare Minerals Lunar Lip Duo

If none of these tickle you fancy, then Bare Minerals also has a ton of other holiday gift sets that will be sure to impress anyone on your list. Although there’s so many clean beauty brands around now, Bare Minerals has been kicking it for a long time and offer some impressive and stunning products.

Is Bare Minerals on your wish list/giving list?
