NOTD: Essie Cascade Cool

I’ve always had a soft spot for pale pink colours.  My all-time favourite nail polish is OPI’s Mod About You, a very pale pink colour that is so flattering and eye catching, and best of all, makes your hands look tan.  So when I first laid my eyes on Essie’s Cascade Cool (be still my fluttering heart!) I knew I would automatically love it.

Cascade Cool is described as a creamy, sweet dusty pink colour and I would have to agree, except that it packs a lot of punch.  The shade is neutral enough to pull off wearing at the office, but packs enough pow to dress up any outfit.  I think this is a great neutral pink colour, not as wild as Off The Shoulder, but pretty enough to wear anywhere.  This shade is extremely suitable for a wedding or a grad/prom, it’s a real girly colour.

The one thing I noticed about this colour that I didn’t about the others from the collection was that after two coats it actually left my nails quite glossy.  I of course applied a top coat, but from the shininess of it, it kind of appeared as if I already did when I finished the second coat.

I’ve really been loving all the colours in this collection and honestly, if you have the money to spare, I would pick all of them up.  I still have two more to go so maybe I’ll still change my mind, but honestly, bright colours are so in right now and it’s so fun to rock bold, fun shades during the summer months that they will come in handy year after year (pink is always in style anyways).

Have you tried Essie’s Cascade Cool?  If so, what were your thoughts?

NOTD: Essie Bikini So Teeny

Up next on the Essie summer 2012 collection saga is Bikini So Teeny, which is the namesake polish for the collection.

This periwinkle blue colour (Essie describes it as a “cornflower blue”… whatever that means) is a stand out in the collection because it’s so different from the other creme shades (aside from maybe All Tied Up), it looks like a flat colour but with a more closer look there is a bit of white/silver shimmer in there.

I found the shimmer was a bit more noticable in the bottle than applied on the nails but it’s a nice touch nonetheless.

I have recently been obsessed with blues and greens lately so I was uber excited to try this one on.  It’s a pretty, bold, and bright colour but it reminded me a bit of China Glaze Electric Beat, although this one is a bit more brighter.

If you are looking for a lighter blue I would pick this up.  It’s not quite a baby blue but it gives the same effect.  It really is gorgeous when applied.

Like all the other polishes I have tried from this collection, there was no streakiness when applied and I used two coats with Seche Vite’s basecoat underneath and OPI’s Top Coat on top.

NOTD: Essie Off The Shoulder

I have a thing for Barbie pinks.  I have way more than I can count in pink shades of lipsticks (I actually call it my signature shade), but surprisingly I don’t have a lot of bright pinks for nail polish.  I’m more of a pale pink or neon pink kind of girl.  So I was excited when I got Essie’s Off The Shoulder because it’s really one of those staple pink kind of colours.

Brand new from their summer 2012 collection, Off The Shoulder is a hot pink shade that goes with any skin tone and is just so irresistible in the bottle.  Painted on I find it’s not as neon as one may think but it’s a colour that is so universal that I think it could go with any kind of outfit.

I used Seche Vite base coat with OPI’s Top Coat on top.  All I needed with two coats to make it opaque.  I also didn’t notice any streaking, which Essie is notoriously known for.

I think that if there is one colour from this collection that is a must buy, I would probably say that this is it.  I love all the shades, but Off The Shoulder is one of those colours that you can wear in any season, with any outfit, to any occasion.  It’s just so pretty when applied on and you can either rock it subtly or loudly.

Chase liked Off The Shoulder too. He likes Barbie pinks.. even though he’s a boy.

Everyone thinks I'm a little girl...
