Boxing Day haul 2012
I hope you all had a fab holidays and an even better Boxing Day! For those non-Canadians out there, Boxing Day is our version of Black Friday, where stores offer amazing deals on items the day after Christmas Day.
Boxing Day pretty much turned into Boxing Week lately but I still find the best deals the day of (especially right when the store opens). Typically, the best items to get on this day are electronics, like televisions and cameras, but since I didn’t really need any of that, I just hit up my local mall to get the goods.
I got to the mall around 7:30 a.m. and went to the Lululemon line first thing. This is my third year in a row doing Lululemon’s Boxing Day sale, which I have found to be hit or miss. Lulu also has the longest line in the mall, so I knew to get there early. I met up with two friends and then promptly made my way to Sephora while my friends held my spot in line. I knew it was going to be a while before we got into Lululemon so I had time to check out the door crashers at Sephora. The mall opened at 8 a.m. and the small line outside Sephora rushed into the store and crowded around the Boxing Day display at the front of the store. It was madness, I was just grabbing stuff, I had no clue what I was reaching for.
I was actually pretty impressed with the Sephora sale, I picked up the Buxom Lashliner Duo in Sequins (black with silver microglitter), which comes with the liner and a brush (Buxom Lashliner retails for C$20, the brush is probably worth like $15), the Philosophy Purity Cleanser in 12 fl.oz (couldn’t find it online in 12 oz., but based off the prices of the 8 fl.oz and 16 fl.oz it would be around C$34), Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Eyes liner in 0L black (retails for C$20), which is something I use on a daily basis, and Benefit’s Creaseless Cream Shadow in RSVP (retails for C$24). Now the best part of it all (and the reason why I bought so much), was that all these items were C$12 each. So what should have cost me $113, actually came to like $53 after taxes.
After Sephora, I made my way back to Lululemon where the line started to move. I also went to Michael Kors (didn’t have much of a sale – 15 per cent off reduced items, still too expensive) and Coach (they had an awesome sale, pretty much the entire back half was 50 per cent off, I just didn’t need anything from Coach).
When we finally made our way into Lulu (after an hour wait) we beelined straight to the sale section. Thankfully, Lululemon’s Boxing Dale sale was the bomb this year. It was a bit confusing at first because there were items marked with a sale sticker, but the prices were the same as before Christmas, so I was like “there’s no sale here”. Then I noticed a sign high on the wall that listed all the prices. So tanks were $19, pants $39, crops $29, etc. regardless of what the sale sticker said. Feeling better about standing in line for so long, I started to dig. I ended up with a pair of their Run: Fast and Free Crops in black (I already own a pair of these and love them) and their Cool Racerback SE Bonded tank top in a yellow colour with a black stripe down the sides (which I got in size 12 – didn’t notice that until I got home; on the plus side it’s long so I can just wear it with a pair of tights). I was also going to get a pullover but someone put it in the wrong section and it was actually $99 – no thank you. I ended up leaving Lululemon spending around $45 (I get an additional 15 per cent off because I’m on their Research and Development Team for being a fitness instructor). The crops cost me $29 and the tank $19, whereas if I bought them regular price it would have cost me $130 ($78 and $52 respectively).
By the time I left Lululemon the mall was pretty packed with people and most of the stores I wanted to go to had a line up. I checked out The Bay and Club Monaco, which both had an awesome sale, but there wasn’t anything I wanted or needed, so I left. I wanted to go to Victoria’s Secret and Aritzia, but both of those stores had a line. Aritzia also has the worst Boxing Day sales. There was a sweater I wanted and I saw the sale price online, $85 down from $90, that’s not even 10 per cent. Their sales are typically like two dollars or five dollars off.
After the mall, I headed to Old Navy, which opened at 4 a.m. and bought a few things there. I got a chartreuse-coloured blouse, a sequin henley, and socks, all for $47 (would have cost me $70.76, so it wasn’t the most amazing deal, but I still saved some money). The Old Navy line to pay was to the back of the store and the clothes were pretty much all over the place by the time I got there.
Lastly, I got an item which I pick up every year. I always head to Calendar Club in the mall and buy the next year’s American Eskimo dog calendar, which was 40 per cent off.
Considering that there wasn’t anything in particular I wanted this year, I made off with a pretty good haul. If I bought everything for full price, I would have paid C$314 (not including the calendar), whereas I only spent $145, which is less than half.
