Making a change: Trying out JVN Hair

I love to try out new haircare lines.

About a month ago I got a surprise box in the mail from JVN Hair. At first I had no clue what this was, but then when I looked up what exactly JVN stood for, I learned that it was Jonathan Van Ness’ haircare line, one of the stars from Queer Eye.

JVN Hair is a haircare line that combines effective and clean ingredients that celebrates hair health and the uniqueness of everyone that uses it.

The brand uses their patented, award-winning hemisqualane, which is an ingredient that improves hair health over time and is a safer alternative to silicone. It helps to penetrate hair’s core to repair, protect, and smooth all types and textures. Hemisqualane is created through a bio fermentation process using sustainable sugarcane. The molecule penetrates the hair shaft, leaving you with weightless nourishment that helps hair’s manageability while also reducing frizz and protecting colour.

The line is comprised of shampoo, conditioners, treatments, and styling products. Thy sent over a variety of items to get a rounded idea of the line.

JVN Undamage Strengthening Shampoo and Conditioner

JVN Undamage Strengthening Shampoo

This shampoo (C$24) is a clean and reparative shampoo that gently cleanses and fortifies damaged, delicate and over-processed hair without losing moisture. Work the shampoo into your roots and then rinse to reveal better ends, stronger and more repaired hair.

This shampoo is ideal for damaged hair, as well as chemically treated hair. It includes the brand’s hemisqualane ingredient to improve hair health, as well as ceramides to repair split ends and lock in moisture, and jojoba esters to replenish the hair cuticle and increase hair strength.

This shampoo is ideal for all hair types and also has a beautiful scent that smells like bergamot and summer fruits, as well as amber and cashmere musk.

JVN Undamage Strengthening Conditioner

Follow up the shampoo with the JVN Undamage Strengthening Conditioner (C$24), which is a deep conditioner that restores damaged, delicate, and over-processed hair. It also works to add manageability, shine, and luster to damaged hair.

This conditioner also includes hemisqualane and squalane to improve hair health and strengthen it with regular use. It also has hydronized quinoa for colour retention, damage repair, and protection, as well as ceramides to repair split ends.

Both the shampoo and conditioner come in a pump bottle, which is made from 98 per cent plastic-free packaging and an recyclable aluminum base and PCR pump.

JVN Pre-Wash Scalp Oil

JVN Pre-Wash Scalp Oil

One of the line’s star products is the JVN Pre-Wash Scalp Oil ($36), which is a nutrient-dense oil that you apply to the scalp 15 minutes before your shampoo.

This pre-shampoo treatment works to hydrate and cleanse the scalp thanks to the added hemisqualane and rosemary extract, which is known to stimulate the scalp and hair follicules, resulting in hair growth. It also contains bisabolol to clarify and calm the scalp.

I suffer from dry and flaky scalp, especially in the more colder months, so I love the idea of this product. I have used it a couple times and love how it makes my scalp feel post wash. I also find that it helps with my hair health as well, leaving it looking shinier, healthier, and more nourished.

If you pick up one product from this line, I would recommend this one since I find this product to be really unique and it’s not something I already have in my hair collection.

JVN Instant Recovery Serum

After the shower, apply the JVN Instant Recovery Serum (C$36) to damp hair to give it an intense and nourishing leave-in treatment. This serum, which is more like a gel consistency, is designed to repair and smooth weak, damaged, and over-processed hair.

Apply it to damp hair to protect it against heat damage. It also works to smooth hair and prevent it from split ends and breakage. In addition to hemisqualane, it also contains niacinamide to support the keratin repair process and increase body and shine. In addition it also contains charged lemon protein to protect hair from heat styling and environmental stress.

JVN Styling products

JVN Complete Air Dry Cream

Finally, for those who love to air dry their hair (myself included), then you’ll really love the JVN Complete Air Dry Cream (C$30).

Apply this cream to damp hair to fight against frizz and leave you with a buildable and touchable hold that brings out your nature texture.

Perfect for all types of hair, this cream styles, moisturizes, fights frizz, defines curls and waves, and protects hair from UV damage.

In addition to hemisqualane, it also contains chia seed extract for touchable hold, as well as moringa seed oil for softness, shine, and luster. I love applying this cream and the Instant Recover Serum to my hair after the Undamage shampoo and conditioner for the ultimate hair experience.

If these three styling products seem right up your alley, the JVN site actually offers them as a set for $58 USD (reg. $80), so if you are in the States and want to try out this line then I recommend grabbing the set to get all three for a good price.

JVN Haircare

I also want to note that all the products are housed in environmentally conscious and recyclable packaging.

JVN Hair has a ton of other products as well and for being a brand sold in Sephora, they are all offered at a pretty reasonable price when you compare them to other haircare brands.

Have you tried JVN Hair yet?

Please note, products sent by PR. All opinions are my honest own.
