Fall face: The skincare products you need to try in September

I can’t believe that fall is already on the horizon.

Last week I was basking in +33 degrees Celsius weather in Montreal and now it’s full on fall here in Winnipeg. That’s okay though since fall is my favourite season and I’m all about the comfy, oversized clothing and pumpkin spiced everything!

My summer in Montreal was very busy and fun but now I’m ready to settle down and just nest at home.  I’m already thinking of all the Netflix shows I have been meaning to watch and all the nature walks I’m going to take Ziggy on.  With nesting come lots of opportunities to just sit back and let my skin breathe and be free and lately I have been receiving some amazing new skincare products.

My skin lately has been pretty good, but I like to keep it in tip-top shape with an incredible skincare routine, some of which products I will definitely be including in my fall routine.

Keep reading to learn what’s new this month…

Guerlain Advanced Youth Watery Oil

Guerlain New Advanced Youth Watery Oil

I’ve been using Guerlain’s Youth Watery Oil since last year and have really enjoyed it (I’ve used a few of the Abeille Royale products and love them).  If you are a fan of this serum as well, then you’ll be excited to learn that they actually have a brand-new formula out for this classic skincare product.

In August they actually launched the new Advanced Youth Watery Oil (C$194/50ml).  The original was released initially in 2013 and this new one has been reinvented to be better than ever.  The new formula contains 95 per cent naturally derived ingredients and is concentrated with the brand’s dynamic BlackBee Repair technology, which offers visible and long-lasting results on the skin, giving you a more youthful appearance.  This technology includes four sustainably sourced honeys from protected islands, biospheres, and blue zones, which blend together to help skin look healthier and younger.  It also contains Guerlain’s exclusive royal jelly, which is sustainably sourced and rich in nutrients and vitamins to nourish the skin.

Shake the bottle up before applying to grab some of those little beads, which are actually commiphora oil, micro-encapsulated droplets that melt on contact to give you a sensorial experience.

This oil is truly unlike any other serum I’ve tried. It has a really unique texture to it where it feels like water, but is rich like an oil and powerful as a serum.  It’s truly a rich experience and in my opinion, worth every penny.  Now that they have a new formula, if you love the old one I would definitely give this a try.  You’ll end up with visibly plumper and hydrated skin.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Dark Spots serum

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Dark Spots Serum

I’ve been a fan of IT Cosmetics for years and years now, both their makeup products and the skincare.  The one item they have been lacking in their line up though have been serums, which all turned around this summer.

A few months back the brand launched four new serums, each one aimed to target a different skincare concern.  There is Bye Bye Dullness for more radiant-looking skin, Bye Bye Pores for more smoother-looking skin, Bye Bye Lines for anti-aging, and Bye Bye Dark Spots for visibly more even skin.

Each serum retails for C$35, which is an incredible price point for not only a higher-end brand, but also for a serum, which typically are more expensive in general.

The serum the brand sent me is the Bye Bye Dark Spots Concentrated Derma Serum. This serum is formulated with four per cent niacinamide to reduce dark spots and discolouration.  It also helps with to repair skin fast and promote overall skin clarity thanks to the added one per cent ethyl vitamin C.

Apply this every day and you’ll notice a more flawless and bright complexion and visibly reduced dark spots on the skin, leaving you with a more even complexion.

Kate Sommerville Eradikate line

Kate Somerville EradiKate Daily Foaming Cleanser and Eradikate

If you suffer from acne or breakouts then Kate Somerville has you covered.

I don’t get breakouts often, but when I do I like to use a spot treatment, so when I got Kate Somerville’s EradiKate, I was kinda excited to get a pimple to try it out (I never thought I would ever say that).

EradiKate (C$31) is their number-one spot treatment that contains a high level of sulfar, which is more gentle than benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, both of which are more common ingredients found in acne treatments.

This spot treatment dries up pimples, as well as clears existing breakouts by going deep into skin to clear out your pores. It also helps to control oil production and prevent future breakouts.  All you need to do is literally dab it on your pimple; I like to apply these kinds of treatments at night so it really works it’s magic while you’re sleeping.

If you want to up the ante on your acne treatment then give pair it with their EradiKate Daily Cleanser (C$53).  This cleanser is great for acne and blemish-prone skin.  Use it daily, morning and night, to clear away pimples, unclog pores, balance oily skin, and help prevent future breakouts.

This cleanser contains three per cent sulfur to gently clean out pores and make zits go away. It’s great to use in summer since our faces tend to go through a lot with sweating, oil, dirt, and sun.

If both these products sound like something you definitely want to pick up then Sephora actually has a set with both products for only C$65 (an C$84 value).

Boscia Jumbo Cactus Water Moisturizer.

Boscia Jumbo Cactus Water Moisturizer

If you like Boscia’s Cactus Water Moisturizer, then you’ll be over the moon to find out that the brand has just released a jumbo version this summer.

Boscia’s Jumbo Cactus Water Moisturizer (C$50) is a 100 ml version of their lightweight moisturizer, which provides hydration for soft, smooth, and supple skin.

This moisturizer has a gel-like consistency and absorbs quickly into the skin. It’s a great moisturizer for combination to oil skin as it helps to improve the skin’s moisture level without weighing it down.

I love using a moisturizer like this at night so my skin can fully seep in the hydration while I sleep.  These kinds of moisturizers are also great to apply after a retinol treatment so it nourishes your skin and works to moisturize it while wearing the treatment.

Boscia oil sheets

Boscia Blotting Sheets

Now I don’t have oily skin but I have a lot of friends who do and they always have to have blotting sheets on them.

I always thought these were pretty standard, but turns out there are different kinds to choose from and Boscia has just released a new version to add to their line up.

The Cherry Blossom Blotting Sheets (C$14 for 100 sheets) comes in purse-friendly envelope, making this great for on-the-go travel. The added cherry blossom provides antioxidant benefits and protects skin from daily aggressors. It also provides a nice scent for a sensorial experience.

The sheets are made from 100 per cent abaca tree fibre, which is a banana plant native in the Philippines. It’s a high-quality fibre that is soft and silky, and perfect for absorbing oil and sweat.

I have a few other version of their blotting sheets, including the Black Charcoal Blotting Linens, which include the brand’s signature activated black charcoal, which is worked through the linen to deeply cleanse and draw out toxins and impurities. As a result, the skin looks and feels healthier.

I also have the Green Tea Blotting Linens, which are designed to soothe skin and leave you with matte skin. These are great to use if you are wearing makeup since it won’t effect your makeup. The green tea also protects against free-radical damage.

Cutie Oils Perfume Oil in Mia

Cutie Oils Perfume Oil

I never loved cuticle oil before I tried Cutie Oils.

The Canadian brand makes cuticle oils that you actually want to use everyday and after having gone through two packages of the stuff, I can tell you, your cuties need this.

Their original cuticle oils are available in two scents, Mia and Olivine, as well as an unscented version.  The oils are housed in a chic packaging with a doe-foot applicator which makes it super convenient and non-messy to apply.  The contain a blend of coconut oil, macadamia oil, meadowfoam oil, jojoba oil, and fragrance.

If you love the two scents then you’ll be thrilled to learn that they recently introduced a perfume oil (C$22) in a rollerball for on-the-go fragrance. These perfume oils are limited edition and can be applied to pulse points such as your wrist, neck, or anywhere else where you want a burst of fragrance.

If you are unsure on which fragrance to pick up, Mia is a blend of tangerine and passionfruit with mid notes of pink peony and jasmine.  Olivine is a scent with sweet vanilla, warm amber, and a hint of sandalwood and blackberry. I love them both but if I had to choose one, I would go with Olivine.

Mary Kay Pink Clay Mask

Mary Kay Pink Clay Mask

A weekly habit of mine? Applying a mask!

I have so many different masks, but if I want something that will give my skin some major TLC then I like to reach for a clay mask.

As part of Mary Kay’s fall 2021 releases, they recently introduced a special-edition Pink Clay Mask (C$20), which is a floral-infused face mask in the brand’s signature hue (pink!).

This mask includes plumeria extract, which will help protect skin against free radicals, as well as mineral-rich clay to draw out impurities, leaving you with fresh and clean skin.   Apply it for a minimum of 10 minutes (I love applying it on a Sunday night while watching reality TV) and then rinse off for more radiant and clean skin.

Mary Kay Cosmetics body washes for fall 2021

Mary Kay Berry & Vanilla and Apple & Almond Shower Gels and Body Lotions

Now that fall is pretty much here, I will definitely be enjoying some at-home spa days and if you want to indulge a little then grab Mary Kay’s new shower gels and body lotions.

Available in two scents, Apple & Almond and Berry & Vanilla, these products are heavenly to use in the shower or bath with the body wash (C$18), which foams up when it hits water.

Once you’re all dry, apply the matching body lotion (C$18), which drenches your body in fragrance.  This formula glides on the skin and absorbs quickly into the skin, leaving you with a pleasant scent. I like to keep lotion with me at all times, including at my desk and bag, and these are great to have on hand.

There are so many items, both for face and body, that will have your skin just feeling happy this month. I am really excited about all these items and think that they will be on regular rotation as the weather gets cooler and cooler.

What are you looking forward to the most this fall?

Please note, products provided by PR, all opinions are my own.
