Young at heart: L’Oreal Paris Age Perfect collection

One thing we can’t change? The aging process.

As we age, our skin cells start to break down and fine lines and wrinkles start to appear. As much as we Botox and use great skincare products, you ain’t going to look like you’re 20 when you’re really 60 (unless you’re Cher of course).

L’Oreal Paris has recently released a makeup collection that is geared towards mature skin and each product has been formulated with ingredients that are specifically for women 55+.

Now I’m not in that age demographic but it was quite fun giving it a try, and truthfully, I was quite surprised by how much I really liked this collection. L’Oreal has merged skincare ingredients with makeup formulas to create a collection that will help with the structure, texture, and colour of mature skin and facial hair like eyebrows and eyelashes.

L'Oreal Paris Radiant Serum Foundation by Age Perfect

First up is the star product in my eyes, the Age Perfect Radiant Serum Foundation (on sale for C$16.14). This foundation is lightweight and breathable, as opposed to heavy and cakey and contains 80 per cent hydrating cream, vitamin C for brightening, and micro-fine pigments to let skin breath, hydrate, and be radiant all day long.

Available in 21 shades, this foundation gives mature skin 24 hours of radiant hydration without looking cakey or settling into fine lines.  It also feels light on the skin and is breathable.

L’Oreal sent me two shades to try out and I was surprised by how much I really liked this.  It glides on the skin and gave me a medium coverage but was still lightweight enough that my skin could breathe.  I did find I had to use a powder to set it since it was a little too glowy for my liking, but L’Oreal also offers a powder foundation in the line as well (in eight shades), so if you want extra coverage or something to set the cream with, they would make a good duo.

L'Oreal Paris Age Perfect Radiant Concealer and Radiant Satin Blush L'Oreal Paris Age Perfect Radiant Concealer wand

I paired the foundation with the new Radiant Concealer (on sale for C$13.59), which is available in 12 shades. This foundation has antioxidants and caffeine to wake up the eye area and hides imperfections without settling into fine lines, which is a major plus for a concealer (especially with mature skin). I also found it hydrating and loved the doefoot applicator, making it easy to apply on the areas that needed it.

Lastly, for the skin, use their new Radiant Satin Blush (on sale for C$13.59), which is available in four shades and gives skin a perfect flush.  This blush is also not cakey on the skin and won’t dry it out either.

Now, I don’t find blushes to be cakey or drying in general, so I wouldn’t say to bend over backwards over this product but I did like the way it applied and liked that it was a buildable coverage (I hate when I apply a blush and it goes on too pigmented).

L'Oreal Paris Age Perfect Densifying Mascara

L’Oreal Paris is known for their mascaras, so naturally they had to come out with one for this collection as well. The Age Perfect Densifying Mascara (C$13.59) contains lash-boosting ceramides and jojoba oil to nourish lashes, making them stronger.

Now there isn’t anything too special about the wand itself but I did find it did a great job of making my lashes look luxe. The formula also contains pro-keratin to strengthen, as well as densifying siloxane and ultra black pigments for volume.

Pair the mascara with their Smooth and Glide Eyeliner (C$13.59), which glides on the lids thanks to its creamy formula. I really liked this liner and actually thought it performed better than a lot of more higher-end liners I’ve tried. With that being said, because it’s so creamy, I did find it had the tendency to smudge a bit, so I would recommend setting it with some black eyeshadow if you are planning on sweating, crying, swimming, etc.

Finally, finish up the eye area with the Brow Defining Pencil (C$13.49), which is available in three shades and will give you the most noticeable eyes.  This pencil fills and defines eyebrows and contains natural waxes to set, as well as soft powder pigments to give the illusion of a perfect brow.

L'Oreal Paris Age Perfect Flattering Lipstick

Finally, it wouldn’t be a L’Oreal Paris collection without some lipsticks!

The Age Perfect Flattering Lipstick (C$13.99) is a creamy lipstick that features a core that is enriched with 46 per cent caring ingredients which help to lock in moisture.

There are 12 shades to choose from, all of which were specifically chosen for mature skin in mind.  This lipstick stays in place and doesn’t feather out and will help to illuminate lips and warm the complexion. They also have four lip liners to choose from in complementary hues.

I really liked this collection and was quite surprise by how much I enjoyed it. I don’t have 55+ skin but I do think it did a great job of covering up what I needed covered and illuminating the areas that I want to highlight most.

It’s honestly hard to say what my favourite products were. The foundation and concealer were both winners and considering how I don’t usually reach for reds or darker pinks, I really loved the way these lipsticks applied (all the colours came out a little lighter on me than they looked in the tube).

So would I recommend it even if you don’t have mature skin?  Yes! The formula includes some great ingredients that will help every skin type, no matter the age, so I wouldn’t let the title of “Age Perfect” scare you.  Of course, L’Oreal has so many different lines that are wonderful, but if you are looking for something with some major skin benefits in mind, then I would look into this collection. Mature skin or not.

Have you tried L’Oreal Paris Age Perfect collection?
