Smells like spring: Four perfumes to try this season

Ah spring time… The snow has melted, the weather gets warmer, and everyone’s green thumb gets some exercise.

Although spring for us in 2020 right now includes staying at home and garden shops closed with only curb-side or delivery, I personally am excited to get back into the swing of things and plant some flowers and herbs (although I’m still waiting for the weather to get a little bit warmer first).

Perfumes for spring 2020 from Atelier Cologne, YSL, Avon, and Charlotte Tilbury

With spring come many new scents, and although I don’t have anywhere to actually wear them, I have been spraying on perfume everyday.  Total TMI, but although I haven’t really been wearing deodorant (I just don’t see a point when I live alone with my dog and he doesn’t care), but I will spray something on me, whether it’s a body spray or a perfume.

I’ve been checking the news everyday and have been keeping a journal during this challenging time, and with the numbers starting to plank, I’m hoping that we can start reopening the economy once again, and with that, visiting salons, dressing up, going for out dinner, and spraying my favourite perfumes to wear outside the house.

So if you are looking forward to that day like I am (really though, who isn’t?) and want to cheer yourself up with a new perfume for when that day actually comes, then keep reading…

Avon Peony Rose perfume

Avon Flourish Peony Rose

Perfect for Mother’s Day in addition to the start of spring, Avon’s Flourish Peony Rose eau de parfum (C$35, on sale for C$22) would make the perfect give for mom or whoever you gift it to.

This brand-new perfume from the brand is a mix of beautiful florals and musk.  The scent is sweet and feminine and contains notes of watery florals, including dewy peony petals, pink currant, and sheer musk. It’s a very light scent that can easily be worn everyday and would pair nicely with a bouquet of flowers given on mom’s special day.

I actually really like this scent and have been wearing it often since it’s such an easy perfume to wear.  Also, at that price point, it’s not breaking the bank, so it would be a nice item to include in a gift basket for mom.

YSL Mon Paris Intensement perfume

YSL Mon Paris Intensement Eau de Parfum

A trip to Paris may be put on hold for the moment, but transport yourself there mentally with YSL Beaute’s new perfume.

YSL Mon Paris Intensement Eau de Parfum (C$128 for 47 ml) is the newest fragrance in the legendary brand’s YSL Mon Paris fragrance collection. This perfume is a daring new take on the classic YSL Mon Paris and is sweet, floral, and musky.

This opens up with black currant, rose, and white musk to present a sensual scent that is perfect for a date night or a girl’s night out.  It’s a very bold scent, but still sweet enough to give it a more feminine touch.

The perfume is inspired by the Eiffel Tower at dusk and is housed in a beautiful fuchsia bottle with a bow at the nape at the bottleneck complete with a YSL logo charm holding it together. The colour fuchsia and the double lavaliere bow was actually inspired by the latest designs of Saint Laurent couture, making this perfume perfect for just about any fashionista.

Atelier Cologne Clementine California perfume

Atelier Cologne Clementine California Cologne Absolue

From Paris to California… Take a trip to the west coast with Atelier Cologne’s newest scent.

Clementine California Cologne Absolue (C$185/100 ml) is a citrusy scent inspired by clementines from California, juniper berries from Turkey, and vetiver from Haiti.  This scent, which is for both men and women, is the perfect spring and summer scent since it’s so fresh and literally smells like a fruit market in Tuscany (I’ve never been, but I can only imagine what it would smell like, and I think this would be it).

Other star ingredients in this perfume include star anise from China, sichuan pepper from China, basil from Egypt, mandarin from Italy, sandalwood from New Caledonia, and cypress from France. This is a pure perfume and include 15 per cent concentration and 92 per cent of ingredients from natural origin.

This is actually my first Atelier Cologne scent and I was very excited to get it since although they bill it as a California scent, it actually reminds me of New York. Atelier Cologne has ateliers (storefronts) in many major cities around the world, including a couple in New York City, so this one truly has a special place in my heart as I would often pass one of their stores while out and about.

Charlotte Tilbury Scent of a Dream

Charlotte Tilbury Scent of a Dream

I actually didn’t know Charlotte Tilbury even had a perfume until the brand sent it my way earlier this year.

Charlotte Tilbury’s Scent of a Dream (C$168/100 ml) is described as a floral citrus perfume that features top notes of lemon, peach, and black pepper; middle notes of jasmine, frankincense, tuberose, and violet; and base notes of fire tree, iso E super, patchouli, and ambroxan.

The bottle and the smell itself greatly remind me of something my grandmother would have on her vanity. The scent is sweet, mature, and musky. It also smells expensive, as every time I give it a whiff I’m reminded of an expensive department store.

I would definitely say that this is more of a nighttime scent since it’s a little heavier, however, I would say that it is a timeless scent as you’ll be able to wear it for pretty much any season.

I probably have like at least 30 perfumes in my collection at this point, but I find that when it comes to fragrance, you really can never have enough. There is a scent for every season, every occasion, and every memory, so I love trying out new ones to remember some life moments by.

What perfume are your wearing this season?
