Skin deep: Vita Liberata self-tanning products

I am a self-tan freak.

As someone who does not tan well naturally, I always have to keep a stock of self tanners in my collection.  I’ve tried so many brands throughout the years, and although the formulas for many have definitely gotten better as time has gone on, one of my favourite ones to date is Vita Liberata.

In case you’ve never heard of them, Vita Liberata can be found at Sephora and is based out of Ireland.  They actually created the world’s first odourless tan in 2007 and their unique Odour Remove technology is now present in all their at-home self and salon spray tans.

Vita Liberata self-tanning mousses Before and after using Vita Liberata Invisi mousse

I’ve tried a variety of products from the line through the years and I completely swear by the pHenomenal 2-3 Week Tan Mousse.  This fast-drying tanning mousse, which you apply with a glove, contains their pHenO2 Technology for a long-lasting, natural-looking tan, which gives you instant colour which will develop over four to eight hours.  I always apply this at night and by the time I wake up, I’m super bronzed (it comes in three colours – fair, medium, and dark, and I always get the darkest lol). They say that it lasts up to two to three weeks, but since I work out and shower a lot, I find it lasts on my skin about a week’s time. This is also fine to use on both the face and body.

Since I love this product so much, I always get so excited to try out new items that they release. They recently came out with Invisi Foaming Tan Water — available in three shades, Light/Medium, Medium/Dark, and Super Dark — which retails for a little less than their original pHenomenal tanner (C$49 compared to C$65). This formula contains organic botanicals that are supercharged with their Advoganic technology for hydration and an anti-age skin treatment. The formula is a mousse, so although the product is clear it dispenses white and is super fast drying.

I got the super dark colour and was really impressed with how this turned out on my skin (see before and after photo above). Since it goes on invisible I figured it could be hit or miss. With that being said, I did use the darkest colour and it definitely didn’t give me a spray tan dark colour, but I feel that if I were to have gotten the lighter shades, it wouldn’t have done much for my skin (and I’m quite pale as it is). I got a nice glow that wasn’t too drastic, but still noticeable.

Vita Liberata Body Blur Skin-Tone Optimizer Before and after using Vita Liberata Body Blur Skin-Tone Optimizer

To match my new tan with my face, I’Ve been loving the Beauty Blur Skin Tone Optimiser (C$50), which is a facial product that you can use as a foundation primer or as facial tint.  You can use this all over the body, however, I have only used it for my face and it’s given me the most perfect tinted glow.  Available in five shades (Cafe Creme, Light Latte, Latte, Latte Dark, and Mocha), use this by itself or layered under foundation or over sunscreen for that “glowing from within” look.

The Beauty Blur Skin Tone Optimiser is actually part of the Body Blur family, which is a product that acts like Photoshop but in real life. I have tried their original Body Blur before on my legs and this is a gel product that smooths out imperfections and gives you a slight tint. It’s like you are wearing pantyhose, but you’re not.  New to the line is the Body Blur Sunless Glow (C$50), available in three shades, which combine the original formula with a self tanner (the perfect combo, if you ask me). This body makeup contains self tanner, so it gives you flawless skin while you’re wearing it, while also developing a tan. Once the product is washed off you are left with glowing legs.

Although I liked the original Body Blur, I always found that you could feel the product on your legs.  This is still the case, but just the fact that they added the self tanner component to it makes it all worth it. Typically when I get a spray tan or apply tanner, my legs seem to lose colour the quickest, so this is the perfect product to have on hand to keep my tan looking fresh and consistent with the rest of my body.

Vita Liberata Sunless Glow Body Blur

Although I live and breathe by their original mousse, I have to say that I am so impressed with what Vita Liberata has come out with recently. The whole line is phenomenal (no pun intended), and I can honestly say that I can’t pick just one product to recommend, they are all amazing.

We are in the dog days of summer here, so if you want to keep that glow going as we transition into fall, I definitely recommend picking up some of these products.  Also, if you have a vacation coming up, these will work wonders for you as well.

Have you tried Vita Liberata products

Please note, I was sent this product for editorial consideration. All opinions are my own.
