I get to try out a lot of different foundations.

Although I usually rotate through Maybelline, CoverGirl, and now Marc Jacobs Beauty, I’m always down to try out something new. I have the Revlon ColorStay Foundation, which I reviewed few months ago, and although I like it, it doesn’t really jump out to me when I pull open my foundation drawer. Don’t get my wrong, it’s a good foundation, but when you have like 15 different foundations to choose from, I tend to use the same ones over and over again.

Anyways, Revlon recently came out with a new sister in the ColorStay foundation line, the ColorStay Full-Coverage Foundation, which gives you full coverage (shocker) and a matte finish.

Available in 16 shades, this foundation is billed to last up to 24 hours and is a comfortable wear that moves with your skin. I received two colours, 220 Natural Beige and 240 Medium Beige to try out.

Since I’m quite fair, I grabbed 220 Natural Beige and it seemed to fit my skin tone nicely. This foundation actually reminds me a lot of the L’Oreal Paris Infallible Total Cover Foundation since the consistency is like a mousse and it goes on thick, but then blends out nicely.  I like how it’s in a tube so you can just squeeze out the product.  I also want to mention that the tube is quite small, but it does blend out fairly well, so a little goes a long way.

This foundation is definitely matte, and although I wouldn’t say it lasts for 24 hours, it does make your face seem flawless for a good amount of time. Revlon mentions that it has a built-in primer, but I always use a primer below anyways for extra measure.

Overall, this foundation does the trick, but it didn’t really wow me. It was about average. If you’re looking for a good foundation to throw in your travel makeup bag, then this is a good choice since the packaging is so convenient. Also, I want to mention that although there are 16 shades in the range, if you have a darker complexion, there’s only really one colour.  So many brands are becoming more inclusive of different skin tones, so I was surprised to see this was the case.  Even with the original ColorStay foundation, which they say is “America’s number-one long-wear foundation” there’s only one or two dark shades to choose from.

Hopefully Revlon will take a page from CoverGirl and Maybelline and come out with a more inclusive shade range soon. But in the meantime, if you are looking for an affordable convenient matte foundation, then this definitely does the trick.
