Like a cloud: Rimmel London Lasting Finish Breathable collection

Looking for a long-wearing, lightweight foundation? If so, Rimmel London is coming to the rescue.

Launched last month in drugstores, the British beauty brand has released its newest foundation, concealer, and primer to the Lasting Finish umbrella of products. The Lasting Finish Breathable Foundation is a long-wearing, lightweight skin-perfecting foundation with a medium coverage that moisturizes for up to 25 hours. Available in 17 shades, this foundation provides a ton of options for those with pink or yellow-toned skin, however, the choices are very slim for darker-toned complexions.

The brand was kind enough to send me a giant box with all the shades, as well as the concealers and the primer. After some trial and error, I ended up going with 101 Classic Ivory, which suited my complexion nicely. Although it looks like a pump bottle, of which the other Lasting Finish foundation comes in, this one is actually a big doe-foot applicator that you use to paint on the product. It’s different from what I’m used to, but I’m totally digging it as it allows me to place the foundation on my skin where I need it most.

Now you guys know me and I love something on the heavier side, but lightweight at the same time. This foundation was okay. It does the trick for daytime wear. It’s very light on the skin and gives you a nice coverage, and although I did wear it out a couple times on a Saturday night to test it out, this wouldn’t normally be the one I would reach for. I would say this is a true medium coverage and it is a very comfortable wear. As for 25-hours worth of it, I wouldn’t say it goes that far, as your foundation won’t look as fresh as it does when you first apply it, but it held up well after a day of work and then a workout.

Rimmel London has also released a range of concealers, the Lasting Finish Breathable Concealer, which also has medium coverage and comes in five shades. The concealer comes in a squeeze tube with a sponge-tip applicator, so if you are looking for something to give you a precise application, this might not do the trick. Like the foundation, I actually really like the applicator on this, as it makes it very easy to apply under the eyes. I find the formula to be on the thin side, in both texture and wear, so if you are looking to cover up some major dark circles, I would look into a heavier product. This is a perfect concealer to pair with a BB cream or a light-coverage foundation as it does give you a bit of coverage; however, this wouldn’t be something I would reach for during a night out. It’s good for everyday wear at the office, since I don’t put as much effort into my daytime wear as I do my night.

Lastly, to complete the collection, the Lasting Finish Breathable Primer is a lightweight skin-perfecting primer that will help to extend the life of your foundation by up to eight hours (so does that mean the foundation could technically stay fresh for 33 hours??). You can wear this alone or under your makeup to minimize pores. I have the original Lasting Finish primer as well, but I do find this one better, since it’s a touch thicker than its predecessor. I actually really like using this with the foundation as it truly does make the foundation last longer and look more luminous.

Overall I think this is an okay collection. I have tried better foundations and I have tried worse. Like I said, the wear on this is incredibly comfortable, so it lives up to the “breathable” claim. There are so many good drugstore foundations on the market right now though, that unless a light-to-medium coverage finish is your thing, I would try something else. I do like how they have such an extensive shade range (17 colours!), but unless you have lighter skin, it may be difficult to find a shade that matches your skintone.

Please note, I was sent this product from PR. All opinions are my own.
