Fitness Fridays: Perfect Fit Protein by Tone It Up!

title perfect fit protein

So as often as I work out, I have never had a protein shake.  I’ll drink a Special K Morning Shake for breakfast, which contains 10 grams of protein, but buying protein powder and then drinking it after a workout is something I’ve never done before.

Being on a Tone It Up! kick, I thought I would give their Perfect Fit Protein a try.  Perfect Fit, is a raw, organic brown rice protein that is gluten-free, raw, vegan, non-GMO, Kosher, non-fat, low in sodium, and free of sugar, dairy, lactose, cholesterol, soy, corn, wheat, and allergens. Each serving contains 15 grams of protein and is 70 calories.  It comes in either individually sized packs or you can buy a 50g serving bag.  Unfortunately, the product is only available online at the moment, so if you live in Canada and want to try it, expect really expensive shipping fees.

Perfect Fit actually has a promotion going on where you can try three packs of the protein for $10 plus free shipping. I was gonna order the 20-pack but I thought I would try this out since whatever, it’s $10, plus I wouldn’t have to pay the crazy shipping for it.

Alright, so I just want to repeat that I have never had a protein shake in my life, so I didn’t know what to expect.  I threw a pack into the Vitamix, along with non-sweetened vanilla almond milk, kale, frozen strawberries, frozen blueberries, and ice for a post-workout recovery smoothie.  Once the product was fully blended, I poured it into a glass, took a sip… and hated it.  Maybe it’s because I didn’t know what to expect, or the fact that the product does not taste anything remotely close to vanilla, but it has a really weird taste to it.  I have that smoothie all the time without the protein powder so I know what it tastes like.  When I threw the protein in, it had such a funky taste to it that I had to force myself to drink all of it.  There was also the fact that it was really powdery tasting.  I’m not sure if that’s normal or not, but let’s just say, I’m glad I only got the three and not the 20 that I was originally planning on purchasing.

I have one pack left which I want to use to make their famous protein pancake with (or waffle), so maybe I’ll enjoy it a little better when it’s actually baked into something edible. I’m not sure if it’s like a organic brown rice protein thing or what, but I really did not enjoy the taste.

As for positives about the product, I loved how they threw in a Tone It Up! lip balm, which I have been constantly using, and they also threw in a card with some recipes that you can use the protein in.

Although this is a negative review of the product, keep in mind that I am a total protein nube and honestly, I just heard good things about it, so I’m surprised I didn’t like it.  I have never had whey protein so I couldn’t tell you if they are similar, but if you are unsure about this product I highly recommend trying the three pack out in case you don’t like it (as in my case).

Have you tried Perfect Fit Protein?  What were your thoughts?
