The Holiday Collection: NARS Danmari Cheek Palette

script type="text/javascript">

The holidays are officially upon us!  Hanukkah started two nights ago, there is two days until Christmas, and four days until Kwanzaa, so alas, I bring you the last Holiday Collection post.  But don’t worry it’s a good one.

This is something that was on my list which I received yesterday (thanks mom!).  Many of you have probably seen this on other blogs, but I know that as soon as I laid my eyes on it on sephora.com I knew it had to be mine.

Nestled in it’s own holiday case is the Danmari cheek palette, a limited edition item for the holidays only available at Sephora.  Unfortunately, as of yesterday this product is sold out online but check your local Sephora, they may still have it.

Enclosed inside is six NARS blushes.  They aren’t full size but 0.12 oz (full size blushes are 0.16 oz, so you are getting 3/4 a size).  This palette retails for $65 USD ($70 CDN I believe), whereas full-size NARS blushes retail for $26 USD ($30 CDN), so to get six of them for basically the price of two is awesome.

From Sephora:

What it is:
Based on the exquisite tradition of Kabuki theatre, a classical Japanese dance drama, this palette features six high-pigment cheek powders that let you play up your features like a true performance artist.

What it does:
The ultimate authority in blush, this limited-edition mirrored holiday NARS compact features the essential blush and bronzer shades, ranging from warm bronze and luminous highlighting hues to shockingly bright pink. Turn a new cheek with this fashion-forward mix created exclusively for Sephora.

I don’t know what this product has to do with Japanese theatre but I find that NARS often themes their products after Japan culture, maybe because the brand is owned by Shiseido?   Who knows?

Top from L to R: Hungry Heart, Orgasm, Desire. Bottom from L to R: Casino, Super Orgasm, Sin

As for the actual palette, the colours are truly fab.  I already own Orgasm, so I doubt I’ll even touch that one but I have wanted to try Super Orgasm for a while.  It’s a bit odd that they put Orgasm and Super Orgasm in here because they are basically the same colour just Super O has more shimmer and glitter.  The colours that I am the most excited for are Hungry Heart and Desire (hello hot pink!).

I haven’t had a chance to try out the colours as of yet (I literally just got it) but if they are anything like the NARS blushes and bronzers I already own I’m sure they are perfect.  There is a reason that NARS is known for having the best blushes and honestly a palette like this, I think, is the perfect gift for any makeup lover out there.

From L to R: Sin, Orgasm, Hungry Heart, Super Orgasm, Desire, Casino

So why would this make a good gift?  Are you kidding me?  There is a reason it is sold out online and probably in the majority of Sephora stores.  If you can find it, grab it because this is the best NARS gift set I have ever seen.  The online beauty world went crazy for this palette, and to get six blushes that are 3/4 the size of a regular blush for $70 CDN?  That’s crazy talk!

This palette is perfect for really anyone who wears makeup.  The colours are great and would suit any skin tone, and the best part is that it includes and bronzer and highlighter so you have a full cheek set to complete your look.  I was so happy to receive this as a gift and I’m sure so would any woman in your life.

Is the NARS Danmari cheek palette on your list this year?  Have you tried it?  Leave your thoughts below!

The Holiday Collection: Tokidoki Chromatico Eyeshadow Palette in Adieu

Cromatico Palette in Adieu. How cute is the box?

Ladies and gents, if you love the colour purple, you are going to love this palette.

The Chromatico Adieu palette ($19 USD at Sephora) comes with four gorgeous eyeshadows, a mini brush, and a Tokidoki character.

A collectible eyeshadow palette that allows you to explore both your criminally cute and irresistibly edgy sides.

What it does:
Create your perfect look with four coordinated shades. Made with pigments that won’t fade, these shadows are also formulated with natural rice lipids and vitamin B, so they blend beautifully and hydrate the delicate eye area. There’s also a collectible charm inside that can hook on tokidoki key chains, makeup bags, or anything you wish to accessorize!

Okay so I’ll start off with the packaging of the product.  How cute is this quad?  It’s basically a see-through cube that holds the eyeshadow and a character in the bottom.  I still keep this product in it’s original box because I feel that the box adds to the entire package.

Top L-R: Carina, Ciao Ciao, Bottom L-R: Adieu, Al Dente

On to the eyeshadows, the colour selection on this particular palette are pinks and purples.  I personally think the colours are gorgeous and they apply really well too.  They are a bit glittery (especially Carina, the white colour) and I have found that there is a bit of fall out but nothing too major.  I highly-recommend using a eyeshadow primer with this product. Here is a look that I created using the palette. This photos was taken around 6 p.m. and I applied my makeup around 9 a.m. so as you can see it doesn’t disappear by the end of the day.  I used Ciao Ciao (the pink shade) near the inner corners of my eyes with Adieu (dark purple) all over my lids.  In the crease (as well as on the lower lash line) I used Al Dente (the black with purple sparkles), and then finally, Carina (white) as a highlight on my brow bone.  I have also done other looks with Ciao Ciao on my lids, Adieu in the crease, Al Dente as a liner, and then Carina of course as the highlight.  You can for sure wear this palette a few different ways; you can go girly, edgy, a daytime look, a nighttime one, etc. They may be pinks and purples but you can create some gorgeous combos with this product. Finally, in the bottom compartment you get a little Tokidoki charm.  This particular palette came with Adieu, a French character that is so cute.  I just let her live in the palette itself but you can attach her to a bracelet, necklace, keychain, dog collar, or wherever else you can think of.

So why did this make my holiday list?  These colours are so gorgeous and complement each other nicely.  Plus, for the price and cuteness of this palette, I think it would make a fabulous gift.  Just a heads up for all you Black Friday hunters out there, these Chromatico palettes will be $10 USD ($12 CDN) this Friday on sephora.com (not sure if the price will be honoured in store as well), so if you want to get your hands on this, don’t miss this deal!

Tokidoki Chromatico Devil Girl Eyeshadow Palette

Next up on The Holiday Collection we have another Tokidoki product, the Chromatico Devil Girl palette.

The Devil Girl Cromatico palette which comes with six shades and a makeup bag, is the most bang for your buck if you want to stock up on some Tokidoki eyeshadows.

I believe this is a summer palette and lucky for you guys it’s on sale right now on sephora.com for $19 which is a great value because you are getting more eyeshadows than the regular Cromatico palettes (which are quads) and this is bigger as well.

From Sephora.com:

Just relax and kick back, it’s Beach Club time! Join Devil Girl and the tokidoki crew as they hit the sunny seaside shores for sweet drinks, blazing temperatures, and adventures with colorful undersea creatures. Don’t forget your sunscreen, this club might be too hot to handle!

This palette contains:
- 6 x 0.06 oz Eyeshadows in Thirsty (cream), Riposino (shimmery light brown), Carina (pearl), Nancy Rocks (purple), Bruttino (pearl turquoise) and Bulletto (shimmery dark brown)
- Dual-door compact with tokidoki Beach Club print, 7 x 3.75 x 0.5″
- Devil Girl keychain fob
- Plastic tote, 7.5 x 4.5 x 2″

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
- Parabens

What else you need to know:
This palette’s dual doors open up to present six eyeshadows and a keychain fob of Devil Girl. Each micronized shadow formulation is infused with hydrating Japanese rice lipids and vitamin B to create a smooth, even-blending finish with a rich pigment that won’t fade.

This palette comes in a cute blue makeup bag made of plastic.  It has an anchor on the front and a skull and crossbone zipper pull.  I have a bazillion makeup bags already so I wasn’t that impressed by it but it’s pretty cute nonetheless and I’m sure I can find a good use for it.Like I mentioned, in this palette you are receiving six wearable colours.  On the left side is Thirsty (top, a neutral beige), Bulletto (bottom, a shimmery brown), and Riposino (middle, a shimmery taupe), on the right side there is Nancy Rocks (middle, purple), Bruttino (top, turquoise blue), and Carina (bottom, white with big glitter).

The neutral colours in this palette heavily remind me of some colours in the Naked palette by Urban Decay; they are definitely colours that I already have, however, you can never have enough neutrals.  Fortunately, this isn’t really a neutral palette.  On the other side is where the fun is.  You have a medium purple, a navy blue, and a white.  These colours on the right are the ones that bring the palette to life.  They are fun without being too much. They may be blue and purple but they are totally wearable.  I can think of a variety of different looks I could create with this palette, everything from an everyday office look to a fun day at the beach (holidays in the Caribbean perhaps?)

So how does it apply?  These colours, like the Cromatico palette in Adieu blend very nicely and apply smoothly.  I was actually quite surprised at the quality of these shadows.  I mean, Tokidoki isn’t really known for makeup nor is beauty its flagship product. Sometimes with these “novelty” lines it’s all about the packaging and the look of the brand but they often lack quality in the product.  Not with Tokidoki.  These shadows are smooth and apply great.  I would probably compare them to a MAC Eyeshadow, but not as creamy as say an Urban Decay one. Here is a look that I created using this palette.  I used Thirsty on the lids with Riposino layered over top then Bulletto in the crease.  On the bottom lash line I used Bruttino then Nancy Rocks right underneath.  This is more of a neutral look with a fun twist (on the bottom lashes) to mix the look up a bit.  It’s like weekday mode on the top and weekend mode on the bottom, so to speak.

Finally, like the other Tokidoki palettes, you also get a little character charm/fob thing.  With this product you get Devil Girl, an adorable red little devil who is listening to an iPod.  I haven’t decided what to do with these yet but I think they are just such a nice touch that adds to the whole package.

So why did this make my holiday list?  Well, like the fragrances, Tokidoki eyeshadows are not only adorable and cute, but they are moderately priced and pretty good quality. When it comes down to it though, I don’t really think a ton of people buy these Tokidoki makeup products because of the quality of the makeup, I think it’s all about the brand; how the product looks, what it comes with, the colours, the cute characters, the fact that it’s recognizable, etc.  Luckily, for Tokidoki though, these eyeshadows are pretty good.  I think that this palette would be perfect for teenagers maybe just starting off with makeup.  With that being said, these products are truly a lot of fun so I believe that really anyone would enjoy them.
