Topbox May 2013

title topbox

With May being my birthday month I was oh so excited to receive my Topbox.  Well, it looks like the people over at Topbox are finally listening and for once I didn’t receive any perfume samples or lotions (finally!).

For this month’s box, Topbox subscribers had the option of choosing a Prive one or a regular one.  There were a few tough choices (like the Maskerade one, the February one, or the tanner one for an extra $9 more), but I chose to go the regular route and take a gamble.  And I’m glad I did.

Here’s what I got:

  • Cuccio Colour nail lacquer in I Left My Heart in San Francisco – full size, retails for $10
  • Lise Watier Haute Couleur High Coverage Lip Lacquer in Stylista (1.5 ml) – full size (6 ml) retails for $23.
  • Yaby Eyeshadow Refill in Copperwire – Professional eyeshadow palettes from $127.
  • Roberto Cavalli Perfumed Shower Gel (30 ml) – full size (50 ml) retails for $80.

Overall I’m very happy with what I got. My favourite items are usually makeup and this month’s box is brimming with products.

nail polish

Although each item, aside from the nail polish, is a sample, they are very generous sizes.  The lipgloss will last me a while and same with the eyeshadow (which is very pigmented might I add).  As for the shower gel, I love receiving these for the gym or travelling, and I already have a perfume sample of this particular scent from a previous Topbox so I can layer it together.

Final thoughts, kudos Topbox for a great box this month!  I can’t wait to give everything a try!

NOTD: Essie Naughty Nautical

Title Naughty Nautical

Next on the docket from Essie’s summer collection is the namesake from the bunch, Naughty Nautical, a shimmery turquoise.

This gorgeous shade was one of the stand outs for me because I have been obsessed with  turquoises and blues for quite some time now.  At first it reminded me greatly of Butter London’s Slapper, but once I put them side by side Naughty Nautical is more green, whereas Slapper has bluer undertones (plus the Essie version has shimmer, hello!)

compare

As always I used two coats over OPI’s Nail Envy as my base, then Poshe top coat over top to complete the mani.  So far, the colour has held up quite well and if you look closely you can see the shimmer in the colour (although maybe not as much as Sunday Funday).

I don’t have any other colours in my collection that come close to this one (aside from Slapper, but they are quite different).  I would definitely snatch this one up!

NOTD: Essie Sunday Funday

title sunday funday Last week I received Essie’s summer 2013 collection.  Naughty Nautical comprises of five gorgeous, eye-catching summery hues.  From a magenta to a hot lime green to a turquoise and coral, this collection is mucho caliente.

The first colour I chose to try was Sunday Funday.  Aside from the awesome name, Sunday Funday is a shimmery coral colour with peach undertones.  The whole collection, aside from The More The Merrier (the lime green colour), have silver shimmer in them.

As always, I used OPI’s Nail Envy as my base and then Poshe top coat.  After two coats the colour was opaque.

bottle swatch

I do really like the colour but I definitely think it would look better with a tan.  I am quite white so the colour doesn’t stand out too much on my hands.  I loved the shade in the bottle but when I painted it on, it was alright.  Once I have some colour on my skin I’m going to paint it on again and I think it will look bolder and pop more.
